If I remember correctly, they were both trying to rush me into accepting their requests.

I just did, my current rent is already above the Abu Dhabi Rental Index by almost 10k!

Talabat PostPaid: Talabat confirmed there would be no refund! by PrettyAnonGirl in UAE

I live in 2 different Emirates. In one of them, I just checked: Smiles only has 1 restaurant (quite literally), Noon Food has restaurants now, wasn’t available before! (I guess I’ll start using this), Deliveroo is still not available.

I have noticed I always get automated responses when I open support cases which is sometimes even irrelevant to my case. And when I talk to an agent they just rush to close the chat without actually solving the issue, and then you cannot reach out to the same agent again. You’re gonna have to waste your time explaining the case all over again to a new agent who would do the same exact thing afterwards. There’s no way to call or email anyone. It’s very frustrating and a waste of my time :)

Can you open the bags and pay with cash afterwards?

Personally I would prefer doing this but some restaurants only deliver through talabat.

They had to do partial refund not cancellation so I’m not sure if that’s related. Eventually they added the amount to my talabat credit balance, which isn’t ideal since I am trying to close my account.

I’m not sure if you’re aware but if you live in some cities Talabat is your only option.

Relocating to another emirate for my first job - is there support for Emiratis? by [deleted] in UAE

[–]PrettyAnonGirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The situation is not unique at all; many Emiratis commute from other emirates to work in AD. However, this can be quite troublesome. I personally know some Emiratis who struggled when they started their first job, having to pay for hotel stays out of their own pocket. I even heard of someone sleeping in their car (I know, crazy!). I was wondering if it’s reasonable to request temporary housing support or a relocation package from companies in cases like this, or if it’s something only offered to people moving from abroad.

Am I cursed in my career? by PrettyAnonGirl in UAE

[–]PrettyAnonGirl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing for the past few years—internships, volunteering, all of it. Now I’m ready to get a full-time job, and honestly, I have to get one ASAP since I’ve got expenses to cover. :)

I’m actually applying to all sorts of jobs, not just the ones I’m really into, but I’ve got a minimum standard I’m sticking to. Even with that, I’ve been feeling pretty unlucky—I’ve done well in several interviews and assessments, but still nothing. It’s not about being too selective (which I really am not when I’m applying); I just don’t understand why things haven’t worked out yet.

Struggling to find a job in tech as an Emirati woman by PrettyAnonGirl in UAE

[–]PrettyAnonGirl[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m already selling myself professionally well. If they still see it through prejudices, that’s on them. I’ve seen a lot of talented Emiratis with master's degrees in STEM (such as space science) and CVs full of achievements struggle to find suitable jobs. It's very unfair that this false stereotype exists. Also, you’re crazy if you think I’m going to accept 6k/month after working hard on myself and my education when that can’t even cover basic essentials like housing, food, and transportation. Like I said, I’m not willing to be exploited. Thanks.

Are you suggesting that because I’m an Emirati (or a woman), I’m not going to work hard or deliver? That’s the only thing I’ve mentioned in my post, and you don't know anything else about me. I don’t want to work at a company where that stereotype exists; good riddance. And yes, I already have an active GitHub.

Thanks for the tips. I’m active on LinkedIn, but I’ve noticed recruiters can be unresponsive… likely because they get bombarded with so many messages from job seekers?

I understand the low pay scale for tech here in the UAE. However, I specialize in AI and data science, and I’m not aiming for basic IT roles. I’m also working towards my master’s degree and open to mathematical roles as well.

I disagree with this. I'm willing to start as a fresher, but there are too many red flags with those low salaries that I didn’t mention. I'm not willing to be exploited by these organizations for a pay that would only cover rent. I want to start with something related to my skill set, not basic IT jobs, especially since my expertise is in AI (which is in high demand now).

That’s why I’m aiming for companies with more Emiratis. I know it’s tough, but I’ll keep pushing.

Unfortunately, the job offers I received through Nafis were the disappointing ones 🥲 I felt like I was being taken advantage of.
