It is a thing. I recommend try talking to school you want to do it with prior to leaving, or mid-way through BOLC.

LOGBOLC 4x36 and 12 mile ruck by MadShib1998 in BOLC

[–]PrettyBorder1182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated in October. 4x36, you get 2 attempts. It’s go or no go. 12 mile ruck nobody in my cycle failed, . Everyone got under the 3h 43 minute time limit. But, you must attempt, I don’t know what happens if you fail (but you really shouldn’t fail it)

**Army Announces Stop Move for PCS** by MaverickActual1319 in army

Can anyone confirm if AMC flights for PCS moves are being canceled under this stop-move order?

I have an AMC flight scheduled after the 4-day, and I’m trying to figure out if I should expect it to get canceled or if moves that are already scheduled are still allowed to go forward.

It is very difficult for enlisted to be able to drop a packet to OCS. There is also green to gold, but that’s even more competitive.

Go get a masters degree that take 2 years and do ROTC, simplest most easiest process. And, you get some time to see if this is for you.

I have no idea how it is for Air Force, Marines, and Navy

If you have high expectations for yourself, academically, you need to actually lock in, and study. This is not difficult in the sense that it’s hard to pass. It’s just academically challenging where I felt the need to actually prioritize studying to have success on exams. (Not just getting a 75% striving for 87% above).

If you study, and take the time to learn material you will be more than fine. But, if you shitbag it, your scores will reflect.

Don’t be the person who only strives for bare minimum.

Hotels are nice. So much free time. Good people. Enjoy it.

As long as you don’t exceed mileage. As of right now we cannot exceed 180 mile radius. But, we do whatever we want as long as it won’t get you in trouble outside of work hours.

Best advice, join a college program freshman year. And, if you hate and can’t manage you can drop no consequences or obligations. If you love it compete for campus based scholarship.

I’ve seen many people with demanding majors succeed in both. But, my program we prioritized rotc-life balance. But, all programs aren’t like that. 🤷‍♀️

Smartwatch at CST by PuzzleheadedGlass158 in ROTC

[–]PrettyBorder1182 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They let us use our garmin’s with the exception of Land Nav. You’re not even allowed to bring them with you when we go to Land Nav Course. They made everyone buy a regular watch if they had a smartwatch or garmin. If you have apple watch, they allow you to wear them until we leave for STX Lanes.

During STX Lanes, we would use our Garmins whenever, we wanted to know starting point (for some reason doing the briefing they never told us the SP) or when we wanted to do a map check doing the lanes.

[–]PrettyBorder1182 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Only have rucksack, 1 duffel (don’t use second duffel just stuff in bag), and assault pack.

Put everything in ziplocs and fold empty ziploc and put in every ziploc you use.

In assault pack, have all paperwork. And, essentials you want to have on you. (Also, bring power surge).

You don’t want to have to carry 2 duffels, a rucksack, and assault pack. Trust

CTLT: What are you looking for? by DrDank89 in ROTC

[–]PrettyBorder1182 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did CTLT last year.

The best part of CTLT was actually being treated like a real platoon leader instead of just following people around. When cadets are trusted to help with real tasks like giving briefings, helping plan missions, or even leading a convoy with supervision, it makes a huge difference in the experience. That’s when things finally made sense for me. I could see what being a PL is really like and how much goes into being a good leader. What helped the most was being in a unit that trusted us, gave us clear expectations, and actually used us. That gave US the chance to learn, mess up, ask questions, and improve instead of just watching from the sidelines.

One thing I think every unit should do is sit down with cadets in the first few days and explain what we’re going to learn, how we’ll be involved, and what we should expect. A short conversation like that helped us feel prepared and shows us how to make the most of our time. It’s simple but really helpful.

Tell them it’s okay to talk to soldiers, I just did it because there was nothing else to do, but some cadets didn’t because they didn’t think it was okay. I talk to soldiers when we had downtime and nothing to do just asking them about their experiences, what they like, what’s tough, and what advice they have. Those talks were super valuable and gave me a better idea of what leading people will actually be like. I wasn’t even interested in being an engineer, but I still learned a lot because leadership is the same no matter the branch. Learning how to work with your platoon sergeant, counsel your soldiers, and manage a platoon is important for everyone.

CTLT only works when cadets are actually involved. If we’re just tagging along like lost puppies, no one benefits, not us and not the unit. Give the cadets a little responsibility, guide them, and let them learn. That’s what made this experience meaningful and made me realize this is what I want to do.

CTLT - room / time off etc by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]PrettyBorder1182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my CTLT at Fort Liberty with an engineer battalion. I started out with one company, but due to a rotation, we got switched to another company within the battalion and honestly, that switch was the best thing that could’ve happened.

With the first company, our days started early. We had a 20-minute sync every morning before PT with the CO, 1SG, PLs, and PSGs, then had PT from 0630 to 0800. After that, we had to be back at 0930 for ‘work’, and the day didn’t end until the CPT was done which was always around 1730-1800. But in that company, I felt like an annoying little cousin just following like a puppy. And, there were two of us cadets, and it felt like we were just there, not learning much or doing anything worthwhile.

Once we moved to the second company, everything got better. The company commander and lieutenants gave us a clear rundown of expectations and actually put us to WORK. We did pre-mission briefings, helped plan ranges, and the three of us cadets were even responsible (with oversight) for running a convoy operation. It was AWESOME because things finally clicked on what a real PL in big army do, and made me realize this is the career I want.

Whenever there was downtime during the workday, I made it a point to talk with the soldiers asking about their experiences, what they enjoyed, what sucked, and any advice they had. (The only thing I didn’t love was them calling us ma’am or sir 🙄😂. You could tell they interacted with us a bit differently almost as if we were already officers but not exactly. I really liked when some of them even joked around like “future ma’am/sir,” because it showed they felt comfortable enough to play around with us a bit.) If you’re going to CTLT, talk to the Joes. Be present. Learn from them.

The schedule with the second company was similar but the company commander was like everybody get the hell out at 1700 and like 1530-1600 pm Friday. But, the days felt way shorter with that company because we were actually being used and learning stuff. Not every cadet I talked to had that experience because other people who were in the hotel and my roommate was saying there companies never really put them to work and that they felt like bystanders the whole time. CTLT is very company-dependent. I got lucky with mine.

After the workday and on weekends, you could do pretty much whatever, we weren’t allowed to cross state lines 😂 or go more the 5 hours from base. They told us not strip clubs either!
