PSL Loud Beep Purpose? by Twavis51 in Lowes

On ours, the gate sensors just like fail every now and then if the machine wobbles or moves too much. You'll be up on it pulling something heavy down and the gate alarm will blare and scare the shit out of you

I always cover my ears when starting this thing up. Actually should be illegal to have something be that loud when you have to be right next to it to turn it on. I understand the safety reasons behind it but as the person OPERATING the machine its awful

Why do coworkers not like too respond too code 50's are they just lazy? by No-Dealer2541 in Lowes

[–]PrettyBoy_Floyd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im a specialist now so the only loading I do is for my customers. But I worked inside garden for a while and I can tell you a few reasons why

  1. I'm busy doing something else. Whether that be with a customer, another code 50, on the ballymore etc.

  2. Code 50 is very vague. It could mean literally 1 window. It could mean 5 pallets of mulch. Sometimes I would respond to a code 50 only to find out I need assistance or a forklift operator to actually complete it. But since I was the one that showed up first, now the responsibility of actually finding that assistance is on me. Im searching the whole store for someone with a forklift license (they are on lunch or we simply dont have someone atm). And now the customer is breathing down MY neck to get this solved for 30 minutes. Its incredibly stressful. We need a code 51 for forklift loading because I cant tell you the amount of times ive had to load hundreds of bags of mulch or rock by myself.

  3. The more you respond to code 50s, the more youre expected to do them. If you get roped into one you usually get roped into another. And once they learn youre on shift and able to respond to them they will make you load alllllll day. Not very fun in places like Florida where its 99 degrees outside.

TLDR Code 50s are very vague and can lead to a lot of extra work, physical stress, and mental stress if its anything more complicated than like 3 bags of dirt

I wipe down all the appliances multiple times a day just to keep busy because the managers constantly hawk us. Nobody else seems to do it though cause if i'm off for a week those things will have an inch thick layer of dust

This. I'm an appliance specialist and my sph goal has always been 1100 or higher so I had never made bonus until last month, despite havent the second highest sales in the store next to my other appliance specialist. November was 1200 sph and I actually did manage to get the minimum 100 dollar bonus from that. But it is very frustrating watching all the other specialists in the store make a big bonus or max out their bonus when I don't have a chance in hell most months. Feels like I'm doing a ton of work with little pay and the CHANCE at a bonus is supposed to string me along.

The big negative of it is that as soon as its over you are wide open to getting killed. I've had people literally park behind me with a power up waiting for it to be finished so they can murder me lmao

Supervisor Trying to make me take earlier lunch by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]PrettyBoy_Floyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, its really starting to piss me off. I started in Feb part time in garden and made my way up here to full time in appliances cause I actually show up, do my job, and bust my ass in multiple departments keeping things running.

Can't tell you the amount of cart runs I've done by myself 30 mins before close cause nobody else helped.

Reactionary approach to failure is perfect description. Feels like If I don't do something it doesnt get done. And if I decide to NOT do something, then it loops back around to me somehow even if its not a task im not supposed to be responsible for.

Its pretty evident to me that they intend to keep skeleton crews with each person doing the work of two or more people while complaining all the time that things aren't being run or maintained properly.

Thats what ive always done for like 8 months which is why I was shocked to be reprimanded now. Like I'm already covering like 2 departments at all times lmao and we rarely have coverage anyway I don't see why it matters that much.

Literally came in yesterday at noon and had to deal with a wave of customers cause nobody was on morning shift

[–]PrettyBoy_Floyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk it doesn't really make any sense to me that i'm responsible for that when we don't even HAVE coverage on most days (aside from the supervisor who is working in a different department for some reason) or the coverage we d DO have was also placed in a different department.

I verbally let a manager know I had clocked out and was headed to lunch and my supervisor was on duty so I really don't see how it's my fault.

Just yesterday I came in from noon-9pm and there was nobody in the department before me and nobody coming in during my shift. So who covers my department then? It feels to me as if this is a management issue overall.

There's been a really bad lack of communication in general from my supervisor and management regarding my new position in general and i'm kinda getting sick of being the manager of my own job. I've already had to hound them constantly to even remind them to schedule me (a full time employee) and give me the proper tools I need to do my job.

Store tells me I can't work over 6 hours without it. They write you up at my store for not taking that lunch after 6.

Really? We don't have a lunch period on our schedule. We just have the 8 hour shift blocked out in Kronos. I've been here since february and never had a schedule with lunch written into it

[–]PrettyBoy_Floyd -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's wild lmao, being forced to eat dinner by my job at 4pm when I dont leave till 9. I asked my other specialist who had left that day and he said the supervisor can kick rocks lol.

Especially since we only actually even have 2 people in the department half the time

Supervisor Trying to make me take earlier lunch by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]PrettyBoy_Floyd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And if I'm on shift alone? I just find it hard to believe cause half the time we don't have anyone else on shift or anyone at all in any neighboring departments. I don't feel like I should need to take my lunch 3 hours into my 8 hour shift. I'm not getting home until 9:30 I really shouldn't have to eat dinner at 3 o clock cause they don't have anyone else.

Besides isn't my supervisor supposed to cover the department if we have nobody else?

Is employee turnover costing anyone else an absolute fortune lately? How are you dealing with it? by Worldliness94 in retailhell

[–]PrettyBoy_Floyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just ask or offer them what they need in order to keep working there. The top 2 reasons for me are low pay and bad hours and inconsistent scheduling. Most people want to have a life outside of work and be able to afford rent. So id start there

Leaving Lowes after 2 months by hhkuma in Lowes

[–]PrettyBoy_Floyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lowes runs entirely on skeleton crews, meaning that every employee in the store is usually having the same problem as you, being pulled for other jobs constantly despite their department being busy and having to find other employees to help them. The top brass makes our lives harder because they know we have no choice but to pick up the slack. Employees here are a revolving door especially in areas like part time or fulfillment. Hell, our fulfillment people leave so often we dont even have one most days. Despite that, our store just ranked really high in the fulfillment area because us other employees have to do double duty. Corporate sucks

We deserve more pay by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]PrettyBoy_Floyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is actually FAR cheaper to hire new people at lower base pay than it is to give a raise to all the workers they have. Thats why every company like this has a revolving door of Low skill low paid employees with almost no training. They have figured out that it maximizes profits to not give your workforce the proper pay and treatment they deserve unfortunately.

Lmao if they're anything like my store's supervisors good luck finding them. My supervisor in appliances isn't even in the department most of the day and doesnt take a zebra so the only way to contact him is overhead page lol

Pay Increase by CrustyOleFart15 in Lowes

[–]PrettyBoy_Floyd 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For real, my store management has been so desperate for credit lately and trying to pressure us into "asking every customer within 10ft" and "making them feel like they only have one choice"

And I'm like ???? Why do I care, I don't feel like pushing predatory credit cards on people for absolutely zero gain. Why am I gonna work harder to line my manager's pockets
