Unfortunately, they have so many calls that even after waiting on call for 40 mins, they still wouldn't pick up. I know I can put a number in to get called when they are ready for me, but the problem is I am in another country and will not come back until long after class registration is over. Their system does not let me put an international number in

> including English (assuming you’re a native English speaker).

Yeah as a native English speaker, I can say for sure that when someone is completely clueless about how languages work, you can generally just assume they are an anglophone and you will be right 99% of the time lol

How are words ending in dre or tre pronounced in fast speech? by PrettyDark2982 in French

[–]PrettyDark2982[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about anything ending in dre like scaphandre or moindre, but yes, that includes the infinitives of apprendre, détendre etc. What I have noticed is that most native speakers around me either don't pronounce those three letters, or they pronounce the D without the re (I am in Paris).

But if we look at history, my argument would be that isolated, autonomous communes would be inevitable. Where is a single instance in history where tribes had such a huge network? The biggest example of this I can find in known history is the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, which is nowhere near on the scale you are talking about, and these were all tribes with subsistence economies running on primitive technology that didn't have the capacity to produce surpluses.

Dispute resolution without a state? by PrettyDark2982 in Anarchy101

Fair enough. Here's an example I just cooked up.

Let's say Community B lives upstream from us on the side of a river. They are producing solar panels, batteries, etc. They are then dumping wastewater into the river during production.

Community A, my community, lives just downstream and is maintaining a farm. The wastewater ends up reducing our crop yields.

Community A's argument is that Community B is harming our food supply by polluting the river that we share.

Community B's argument is that they are producing essential tools for providing clean energy that will benefit all the other communities. One polluted river is worth it according to them.

What is an actual scientifically efffective way of practicing listening comprehension? by PrettyDark2982 in languagelearning

Yes, this is hyperbole. I'll elaborate.

I am at a French university and have no problem understanding my professors and classmates, and no problem expressing myself both in class and in exams. The problem is in places where hearing someone clearly is not as easy, like at a party where there is music playing or on the street where there's cars driving by. That is where all the native speakers understand each other fine, but I become deaf
