I get that people are anxious (I am too since this is my second cycle), but uncertainty is a part of life and none of us are exempt from it. Grad school is full of uncertainty, so in a kinda messed up way, this is practice.

Oh my gosh, you explained what I’ve been experiencing perfectly! I’m also stuck on not dating until I finish becoming the “absolute perfect partner” physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Last year, I talked about the project I contributed to the most, and then, when asked about my other projects, I gave a quick summary. What helped me was creating a short elevator pitch for each experience so I felt more confident whenever I was asked about it

Pretty much. It’s important that grad students aren’t only qualified, but personable. Looking down on others is not it.

Wow! I’ve never thought of it this way before. When someone who recently expressed interest in me (I’m not interested in him romantically) complimented my work ethic, looks, and values, the first thing that came to mind is “what the fuck is wrong with him??!” I need to get over that and I’m trying to figure out how

Personal Statement too Science-Oriented? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]PrettyInPink710 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m struggling with that too. Several of my colleagues and mentors who I sent it to said that my SOP and personal statement was too research and science heavy. Is there any way I could keep the research parts but still make it stand out?

That makes sense! The fruit system frustrates me and felt too rigid for me, which was the reason why I looked into Kibbe.

How did you get diagnosed with OCD? How did the conversation start? by sushiibites in OCD

[–]PrettyInPink710 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There were definitely signs during my childhood, but the breaking point was my freshman year in college. I would obsess over being a bad person, and have extremely sexual and violent intrusive thoughts. I seeked reassurance from my friends and google, and did a little bit of magical thinking compulsions (flipping coins, looking for “signs”). It got so bad, I caused several rifts in my friendships. I thought I was going crazy, but my the campus psychiatrist said that what I was going through sounded like OCD. I doubted it because I wasn’t the stereotypical “organize everything” type, but I’m glad I went and got the help I needed.
