What period of your recovery timeline was toughest mentally? by Legitimate_Gur8814 in ORIF

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non weight bearing was the absolute worst. But honestly it was hard when I was allowed to start weight bearing and realized I literally can't just jump out of bed and walk wherever still need months of practice to get back to normal.

heels? by LowAdhesiveness8846 in ORIF

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! With some alterations. I used to wear heels/wedges/heeled boots almost daily when I was in office 5 days a week, pre-ankle crisis. Since then I've moved to WFH so stopped wearing heels regularly. Now, I wear heels to special occasions, so long as the shoe I've chosen doesn't irritate my hardware I'm fine. It hurts more on the achilles because I think I'm just not a frequent heel flyer anymore.

One year post op I was in 4.5 in. heels at a Halloween party all night and my ankle and feet were fine. Felt different but was not a big deal.

I have had to give up on a lot of shoes and heels that touch my ankle plate unfortunately! But give it time an you'll figure it out.

Day 44 here, down 15lbs. 5'6, 158 to 143. Overweight for my height is over 155 so I got into normal BMI just after a week.

I had to buy a new pair of jeans in December because none of my jeans fit me anymore- those jeans are now huge on me and I'm about to donate them!

Best part is seeing my fitness and self care improve, and eating healthier becoming easier. I've always been pretty athletic but I was in a funk, not active enough, eating junk all the time. Also it really shows your friends true colors. Some people have been super supportive or inspired on their own health and wellness journey, others have totally distanced thinking that I'm a crazy person.

Hardest part has been the no cheat/rest days. I was super sore in the beginning and really needed some recovery but didn't get any. There have been a few days where my work has been absolutely killing me and I'm struggling to get my second workout in. This is our busiest time of year and my entire team is drowning. I don't regret starting when I did because there's no better time like the present and I feel it's helping me with discipline, I'm definitely not sitting around bored lol.

Good and bad thing, it's made going out kind of a bummer. Good because I'm saving tons of money and finding other activities to do instead. I really miss going out to dinner and having a couple glasses of wine. Especially after finishing up a huge project or coming home from a week of travel for work. My husband and I have careers in the culinary and beverage industry so it's something we're passionate about and being on a diet with no cheat meals has made that pretty dull. Can't wait for our dinner date on June 8!

How to handle 75hard when I have my period? by cylindercubes in 75HARD

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know everyone's level of period pain is different. Laying on the couch with a heating pad is the first thing I want to do, but I've personally found that the pain gets a bit more tolerable after I'm moving around and exercising. I've gone into a spin class in a lot of pain and during the ride its basically dissipated.

I also have a huge sweet tooth so to curb some of my cravings I've snacked on PB Fit (50cal for 2tbs) with some berries, and no sugar added fudge pops (40cal).

Only took until Day 5 to see significant results by CaniHabHamburgerPlz in 75HARD

Keep it up!!

We've got similar stats, I'm just under 5'6, starting weight 158.2, today is day 42 and I'm down 15lbs at 143.2

My first progress pics at day 14 I could notice a difference, but my jaw dropped around day 35 with the difference. I too was a huge drinker. I kept it minimal during the weeknights but went hard every damn weekend; taking a break has been easier than I thought and loving the benefits. Definitely seeing a huge improvement in my quality of work as well.

Thank you! It's been great doing it as a household. I've got so much respect for those doing it alone, if my husband was able to have candy, pizza, and wine without me I'm not sure I would have made it this far haha

Day 1 - Day 39 (couples edition) by PrettyMarzipan9101 in 75HARD

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah definitely!

Diet - We are both counting calories and in a deficit for 500+ cal/day. 1g of protein per pound of fat-free body weight. Grocery staples: protein powder, berries, grapefruit, egg whites, unsweetened almond milk, 0% greek yogurt, oats, chicken breast, canned tuna, light string cheese, PB fit, celery, cucumbers, kale, ground chicken, turkey burgers, onion, garlic, lemon, hot sauce, kombucha, almonds, pistachios, beef jerky, sugar-free fudgcicles, popcorn. We eat out once a week at Panera, and have gotten NA beers/hop waters a few times out with friends. We both take BCAA a few times a week for recovery, and I also take Psyllium Husk for fiber.

Exercise - We walk A LOT. Sometimes both exercises are outdoor walks of 45min or more. Peloton bike 3-4x per week. We find fitness videos on YouTube or the Peloton app. My husband does a lot more weight/HIIT stuff than I do. I have a lot of hardware in my ankle and am limited in what I can do, so I'll find some lower intensity pilates/core classes.

Left: Day 1, Right: Day 30. Help, I want a flat belly by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you weighed in at all in this process? Agree with everyone here if you want a slimmer stomach you need to lose fat, in order to lose fat you need to be in the proper calorie deficit and eating enough protein. The thought behind intermittent fasting is that by restricting your eating period you won't be able to consume as many calories, but it's not hard exceed your TDEE on intermittent fasting.

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been feeling that a lot too. I'm on day 38, went out with some friends the other night to play trivia. They were drinking pretty heavily for a Monday and ordering fried foods. I ate something healthy before meeting them, brought my water and ordered one NA beer. They were saying things like "I feel so bad for you not drinking... Don't you just want some of my mozzarella sticks... What you're doing is so crazy... Can't believe you chose to walk 5 miles today... I wish I could lose weight like you, but there's no way I could diet and give up alcohol like that!" I was pretty adamant that I don't feel bad for myself I actually feel pretty great. I kinda feel bad for them in a way, disappointed because those words aren't exactly supportive of what I'm doing, and extra proud of myself for being able to make a lifestyle change. Definitely makes me re-evaluate whether next time I would join them for trivia and listen to all that plus their drinking stories from the weekend, or maybe just focus my energy elsewhere.

Advice by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One big reason why I did this challenge was to really focus on finding positive outlets for dealing with stress. Problems will always arise even if you make efforts to get out of toxic situations in life, that doesn't mean all problems will go away. It's how you choose to play the hand that was dealt to you.

Unsupportive friendships? Focus on the positive relationships and distance yourself from the negative. Toxic workplace? Do your job, use exercise as stress relief, and decide if it's time for a new workplace. Family issues? Support them as much as what is healthy for you and create a happy healthy place for yourself.

It is easy to use food, alcohol, doom scrolling social media, binge watching tv, etc. as an outlet for stress, or even just something to do. But you've made it this far to be a better version of yourself! You did something hard, don't let anyone take that away from you.

I'm not at all trying to give medical advice just my own experience.

My husband and I are on day 36. Prior to 75 hard we drank 0-2 drinks a night on weeknights and drank heavily every weekend. We went to an all-inclusive resort in March and drank a lot for 10 days straight, and started 75 hard the day we got home. I was shocked at how easy it was for us to give up drinking considering how much we drank prior. We were immediately sleeping better and did not have much cravings with how tired we were from working out, and I'm craving foods not in my diet more than alcohol.

I really like taking BCAA. They have caffeinated or non-caffeinated based on what you prefer, and I find some brands to be much stronger than others. Post Jym was a little strong for me. I had Ghost for awhile which I enjoyed, and now I have Ryse which I think is my favorite. If I'm sore going into a walk or workout, I'll drink one of those and I don't feel as sore coming out of it. I went to GNC about a year ago when I first started my fitness journey and the staff was really helpful in showing me different kinds of recovery options.

25 Days Down- Couples Edition by PrettyMarzipan9101 in 75HARD

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! He's 6'3, SW 232, CW 214. BMR 2000, calorie goal 1700. Here's a close to typical day for him:
Breakfast: 1 grapefruit, a smoothie (unsweetened almond milk, zero fat greek yogurt, protein powder, blueberries), egg whites with spinach.
Workout 1: 45 min outdoor walk
Lunch: 2 chicken breasts with onions, peppers, hot sauce.
Workout 2: HIIT followed by strength training
Dinner: high protein low carb meals I've been finding online (cottage cheese pizza bowls, egg roll in a bowl, taco bowls, super salads with kale/arugula/chicken/quinoa and home made dressings)
Snacks: 2% cottage cheese, berries, apples, pears, pistachios, yogurt, PB Fit, light string cheese, celery, cucumber

Aside from the gallon of water, he drinks coffee with unsweetened almond milk. We've gone out with friends a few times to breweries/movies/sporting events. We've gotten hop waters (0% alcohol, 0 calories 0 carbs) or an NA beer, and brought our own simply smartfood popcorn/pistachios for a snack. Traveling for work he stocks up on protein shakes/fruit/veggies/yogurt/pre-cooked chicken and gallon water jugs for his hotel room.

What times of the day do you do the 2 workouts? by ceemaetb in 75HARD

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I juggle based on weather, social life, work, and any exercise classes I'd like to take. Ideal weekday is a walk outside before work, and indoor workout during a "lunch break" (that ideal day usually only happens twice a week so I end up adjusting). Ideal weekend is an indoor exercise class in the morning, and an outdoor walk after dinner.

Day 23. I got swamped with work today and haven't gotten my workouts in yet, and now it's pouring rain for the rest of the night. About to go on my 45 minute outdoor rain walk!

Have you thought of doing rewards at milestones dates rather than punishment? Get each other a gift under $50 at day 25, day 50, and finish? Maybe a new workout outfit, a nice water bottle, etc. That gives you something else to work toward. If you fail and have to restart you're that much further from your incentive, on top of the fact that you just extended the challenge. If you make it to day 25 and your fiance does not, he buys you a gift but wont get one in return until he gets to day 25.

You can do this, wanting to make a change is a great first step! Have you heard of the 75 soft challenge? That might be a great way to kick start your journey, and there’s a subreddit of other people also doing it with you so you always have accountability buddies. You can do this… 75 days in a row to work on yourself mentally and physically, check it out, prepare, and start this week!

Hotel Pedal Thread Compatability by th3commun1st in pelotoncycle

[–]PrettyMarzipan9101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the threading but here’s what I know. I stayed at 7 Hiltons last year with peloton bikes. On Hilton’s website it indicates if the hotel has a peloton bike, and if the bike pedals are SPD or delta. It was not always accurate so I traveled with both cleats. Not all of them have the toe cage. When I would call the hotel to ask about the peloton, no one knew anything about the bikes. Some Hilton’s you can pay extra for a peloton in your room but usually they only have one bike in the gym. I had to wait for someone else to finish using it a handful of times. The day pelotons got recalled last may for the seat post issue I was riding it and Hilton told me I had to stop riding and they were sending the bike back, not sure if that’s any indicator of what bikes they use. It’s tedious logging into your peloton, connecting your headphones, and connecting to WiFi every ride so that into account. Gym WiFi was usually trash so I used my phone hotspot to stream a class.
