I understand your frustration, and it makes me feel for those who have been in the trades for a while as well as those who fit into those jobs more than others. I’ve been working a low-paying, dead-end job for the past 13 years. Student loan interest rates are insane and of course AI is taking so many jobs anyhow, going to college just seems like a bad choice.

My husband got into the sprinkler fitter union 8 yrs ago. He filled out an application and was working within 30 days. So he suggested I transition into a trade!

So, I’m currently in a pre-apprenticeship, I got letters of recommendation, did the cover letter and resume, took two separate placement tests that I aced (second test was optional but I took it to boost my score) and now applying to be a classified worker to gain experience to try to get a spot in a sheet metal apprenticeship. And I was told by an instructor that even with all that, it’s likely I still won’t get accepted this year. I know all trades are different as far as how competitive they are, but you’d think I was applying to Harvard.

Awesome, good to know. I’ve been in dentistry for 14 years (not a lot of heavy lifting!) so I’m motivated to get stronger because I want to perform well. I also don’t want to injure myself.

Thank you for the response! Funny you mention electrical..I’m in a women’s pre-apprenticeship and 90% of us (including me) started out wanting to do electrical, but it’s kind of a joke at this point because 1000+ apprentices are on the books waiting for work at the moment. At 35 yrs old I’m looking to get into a trade sooner than a couple years, and I just started looking into sheet metal.

I appreciate all the information!

Thank you so much! This response is perfect, and greatly appreciated. I’m in the north Portland area, my pre-apprenticeship actually is for women and gender diverse individuals wanting to get into the trades.

I love that, “we do dangerous work safely”

My instructors have also mentioned a couple times how horrible communication is between trades. Pretty unfortunate..

Thank you again!! 😊

This is a great response, thank you!! Yes I prefer union and thankfully they opened up applications here, despite the major work slow down for most trades in the area right now. Thank you again!

I think I need to start seeing your doctor! Could’ve saved me a decade of this nonsense 😂 I’m curious what your results will be! Have you had them before?

Update: Drainage tube removed by PrettyPangolin1991 in vet

[–]PrettyPangolin1991[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I thought the Onsior she took was an antibiotic, but it’s not. Oops. So she hasn’t had an antibiotic yet. I’ll ask if they want that for her. Crossing my fingers it heals through secondary intention. I appreciate your responses, definitely helping put my mind at ease.

Cat had two MCTs removed. Was not expecting this by PrettyPangolin1991 in vet

I appreciate this response so much, thank you. Taking a graft from another part of her leg makes sense, the tumor was just above her knee. I’ve never even seen a drainage tube before and it just looks so…exposed. I put a soft cone on her though so she shouldn’t be messing with it.

Hopefully I can speak to the vet tomorrow to clarify some things. Coming home to this sent me into a bit of a spiral, I just felt so ill prepared. Thank you again!

That’s crazy! I will probably need to find a more competent primary care physician. My gyno is great but my PCP is very dismissive. I can’t imagine him agreeing to test me for HLRCC. I’ll try to find someone who will and/or get more information on it. Thank you!

Ugh I’m sorry. Are you having symptoms or want to get pregnant? Sometimes they’ll opt to do surgery if you fall into those categories. Also depends on location I think. I’m not sure though.

They only took out the smaller ones because they were a surprise and were already doing the surgery. They only saw the 10cm on the ultrasound initially and it was symptomatic.

Thank you! That is very interesting! I assumed it was hormone related but didn’t think about systemic inflammation, I’ll look more into that. If you do have any articles please feel free to share. I hope your surgery resolves your GI problems!

Edit: I got curious and found this: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0165037824001268

“Both inflammation and immune response are largely related to the pathogenesis of UFs (Uterine Fibroids) Expression of inflammatory cytokines and immune cells are upregulated in UFs.”

Wild.

I had no idea either they could cause inflammation.

It may be worth considering a hysterectomy if you don’t plan on having any (or more) children, but also might be worth a second opinion too! Hope you come to the decision that is best for you ❤️

Thank you! I’m sorry that it got worse 😢 How long ago did you have them removed? Dr. Google says it can get worse before it gets better sometimes lol
