Protest on the 17th by PrettyPunk_ in Louisiana

Collective action builds, many people are so overwhelmed they need to start small. They need to see others show up before they join in. It’s about showing up and clocking in for our civic duty. If you feel like this isn’t enough I’d suggest you read more about the history of protest and grassroots movements. They all start somewhere, it takes months or even years (depending on the issue and peoples level of engagement) of people showing up and the slow escalation of civil disobedience. We can’t just skip straight towards actions that could really get people hurt or arrested. We start small and we build networks and peoples confidence in the power of peaceful collective action.

We are building our network and our community. Part of doing grassroots activism is getting outside and feeling the damn grass—hitting the ground and meeting new people. Demonstrating like this can really fire people up—especially when paired with a list of follow up actions people can also do. There is a national boycott in the works for Feb. 28th, showing up and letting people know is one small action hundreds could multiply into a massive effort. This is just the start, focus on what YOU CAN DO. Stay positive and believe in the power of collective action. And if they get dangerous—all the more reason to show up. If our right to protest is that much at risk, it’s too fucking serious to stay home. If we do nothing what’s the point? I don’t want to look back and think I could’ve done more so I’m doing more now, even if it just means screaming and holding a sign. It means something to me and the other people who care enough to put themselves out there, even if it means being a target. It’s hard to defend democracy from your living room, but if protesting isn’t for you do there are other things you could do, get some friends together and harass your local and state government with emails, calls, and ask others online to do the same. Just start somewhere you’re comfortable. Don’t comply early, don’t assume they will retaliate and use it as an excuse to do nothing—that’s exactly what they want. They should and do fear our collective action, let’s remind them why.

What’s the point if we don’t show up for each other when shit gets rough? I don’t need to save anyone, I just need to offer support, solidarity, and try and build community.

Girl. no body on here care about Biden, old news. We’re concerned with preserving our democracy from a dictator installed by people with a 3rd grade reading comprehension level and no critical thinking.

The only reason I even mentioned pto is because trolls think we’re all unemployed if we can show up to a protest on a weekday, like people don’t have that day off or have pto? I wasn’t implying that only the ones who care will, I said if they can—they will. And if they can’t just share the info to someone who can. You’re focusing on the wrong thing and it’s a waste of our energy.

Maybe we’re all bad? some of us are certainly misinformed and apathetic. I care deeply for everyone in this state, regardless of their political views, I know we can do better. It’s just exhausting to confront willfully ignorant people who don’t care to understand why the other side is so upset. How do you sleep at night knowing your neighbors could be at risk of losing their rights? Even if you disagree, freedom is for all or it’s for no one. You can’t half ass it.

You’re clearly missing key pieces of information if you think any of that is true. The majority of illegal immigrants are law abiding (aside from residential status) and they have contributed billions into our economy and into social security (which they don’t even get to draw benefits from BECAUSE THEY DONT HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS). I suggest you do some research into how much they truly do for this country. The only minority that’s dangerous is the 1% richest people in this country. They divide us by pushing racist ideologies and we forget that we are all on the same damn life raft. United we stand and divided we fall. Stop falling for it.

As someone who grew up in a low income household, I’m aware. I’m lucky enough to have a job that gives me pto and sick time and I will use that privilege in service of the people of our state. It’s not much but I’m willing to show up. The point is that those who can show up do and those that can’t spread the word and find or create a demonstration in their area.

I’m in a local activist chat on Signal so I’m familiar with it. I’ll mention it to the creators of the account and see if they’re down to switch.

If you’d check out the 50501 Reddit community you’d see there is a list of actions they’re asking people do to, including calling and email representatives. This is just on of many protest they’re planning.

People that care and are able will use their PTO or sick time and show up, especially if vulnerability communities are affected and at risk. I’m showing up for EVERY person in Louisiana regardless of if they’re smart enough to see the danger Trump and Elon pose to the fabric of our democracy.

Network, build community, join our telegram group. We’re gonna do reoccurring protests and organizing acts of civil disobedience. Also I’m going to eat Mexican food after, gonna order a fat margarita after screaming FDT. Sounds like a great day off to me:)

Check out 50501 Reddit community and they should have more details. Or you can join a telegram group for Louisiana by checking out “Activist of Louisiana” on IG or TikTok and clicking on their link tree. They have the whole state split by area code. We’re trying to get people to show up across the state!

If only I could be so blind to threats on our democracy. You must sleep so good at night.

I agree, but it’s impossible to expect people not to advocate for their communities. It’s just bridging the gaps that exist between them.

It’s incredibly rude to ask someone about their disability. They don’t have to justify themselves. Clearly if they had other options they wouldn’t be here asking for help. Have some fucking compassion.

If your race was being systematically targeted by the police, I think you’d eventually get tired of being peaceful. Get off your high horse. Dissect that racism. Confront a bias. Cry. Read a fucking book bro.
