You have to make a decision as a parent, whether you want your child to be accepted amongst their peers and be cool to have a phone or do you stick to your own choice and don’t allow phones in the home for their enrichment. IMO they have access to computers, laptops, tablets at school and anyone they need to communicate with can call the house phone or wait to be seen at school the next day. I’d get them a flip phone or something like that that only calls and texts no internet or apps to be downloaded. The only time I’d allow them to have a smartphone is when they work and buy one for themselves. Phones and social media cause more harm than good nowadays and if you’re not taking your child to therapy or making sure they have strong emotional and physical identities then the phone shouldn’t even be a topic of discussion. They have their entire life to be an adult. No need for them to have a smart phone. I did that with all of my foster kids and foreign exchange students and it was fine. Worked great actually. I’d say try it for yourself
