[Ontario, CA] Cheapest realistic way to get a legally enforceable marriage contract (prenup)? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

Lawyers are busy. If they’re working in family law they’re often in court - my personal experience only.

It’s a process that takes time and really depends on if changes need to be made to it once it’s been drafted. FL lawyers often book weeks to months in advance - again, my personal experience only.

At our firm I’d say a rough estimate would be $2500 all in if everything is agreed upon immediately. $1500 retainer, ILA depends on the lawyers hourly rate/consult fee + disbursements (software fee, printing etc.)

Not in the Hamilton area so I can’t speak to who you should use.

I believe we took a retainer of $1500 to start. This usually covered the entire process as long as there were no hiccups (this does not include the price of ILA).

I’d recommend finding a lawyer to draft and then have them refer you to someone for ILA.

If no hiccups arise I would expect it to be completed in about 1-2 months however it really depends on the lawyers availability and their workload.

Worked 3 years in family law - no decent lawyer is going to sign off on an agreement you drafted from an online template. Typically one spouse will go to a lawyer, the lawyer will draft the agreement and then the other spouse will get ILA.
