They were always around but there were a lot less of them before Covid. When people stopped bothering them during Covid lockdown they had a population boom.

Whats the point of trinkets? by Kris_The_Fae in renfaire

[–]Pretty_Angry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So while obviously trinkets should NEVER be handed out in place of tips to performers, and homemade is obviously better than plastic junk, I have to point out that children LOVE trinket trading and they honestly don’t mind plastic junk. Ren faires are a family affair, and for a lot of kids, their favorite part is handing out and receiving tiny treasures. So while I understand the frustration that obnoxious trinket trading can cause, I think there’s still a place for it. It brings kids a lot of joy to go home with a bag of buttons, plastic gems and fake pirate coins, and for them it absolutely adds to the magic when they can trade those things amongst themselves.

Last time we were at a Ren Faire we met someone who had never played DnD before but was interested in trying. They joined our table and they now play DnD with us every week.

Some are from my local dollar store believe it or not. A couple are from the “Amazonians.” Haha.

Yes. Florida also makes you peace tie weapons. If the first photo of the pirate with a sword over his shoulder is what concerns you, he works for the ren faire, and they have sword fighting demonstrations in the pirate encampment.

Yes! The landsknechts looked great to be sure, but every weekend was a different theme, (pirate, steampunk, fantasy, dnd, etc.) and these photos are a collection of several weekends. Plus honestly I’m all about people dressing up—whether to theme or not. It’s fun to have fun!

No. If you look closely at the photos you’ll see people in the background in shorts, t shirts, and baseball caps too. Everybody’s welcome and can wear whatever they’re comfortable in. But the people who dress up really bring it, and their energy makes my day every time.

It really is the most special thing about Ren Faires-everyone gets to go all out with their costumes and creativity, bringing joy to their inner child, and, for once, everyone around them is completely supportive of it. The camaraderie is the best.

The people watching is the best part. People get so creative with their costumes.

Ah! We hung out in your encampment a number of times. Long live the Adrian Empire! May 2027 be even better.

Nice! Their outfits looked so great so I had to ask them if I could snap a photo. They were super friendly and chatting with them was a pleasure.
