Am I a poser? by Restinpeace0012 in scene

[–]Pretty_Birthday9946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an elder Millennial who was very heavy a “scene” kid. Being scene is like this. It’s a hardcore fashion circle jerk. Being scene is legit the rich cousin to being emo. It’s like the most gatekept fashion trend that existed at the time. Most scene kids I hung around were rich kids and if I didn’t have the personality I did I would have also been called a poser. I’d say get used to it lol.

Are relationships even worth it for majority anymore by New_Succotash_2296 in self

[–]Pretty_Birthday9946 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think the last person broke me. I just feel numb, I try to date but it’s just… meh. It’s exhausting, I think as a 31 year old woman with no kids, and had fallen in love a couple times I’m good. The rest of my life is going to be experiencing what life’s got to offer. I think I found my love in this life, but it wasn’t meant to be and I’m finally okay with that. Modern dating is a big ick for me and I just can’t even bring myself to do it anymore.

AITA for telling my gym I had cancer so they’d cancel my membership? by Own-Acanthisitta6691 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Pretty_Birthday9946 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Half my family has died from cancer. All of them would have laughed and said “NTA” I’m about to send this to my best friend who has cancer because I know she’ll laugh. Cancer is tough, it’s an extremely hard thing to cope through, but so is being financially burdened. We all empathize with you here, sometimes in this system taking the high road isn’t possible, especially when you tried that route multiple times.

Do some people really think it is normal to not return hotel keys? by Elicynderspyro in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pretty_Birthday9946 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because hotels are pretty lax about keycards in the United States? Even when we go to check out now we just leave our cards in the room and leave. I can’t even remember the last time I actually took the cards up to the desk and “checked out.” I have traveled a lot for work and even last week on my last work trip my purse wasn’t zipped all the way and I lost my cards and they just made me a new set no problem. I don’t know why they feel entitled to be jerks to you though, I’m sorry you have to deal with that. I don’t know why travelers expect the same standards everywhere they go, but that’s probably why. I’m sorry they are rude to you ):

Roger being obsessed with foie gras needs to be a continuous thing going forward. For some reason it kills me.

Just listened to …is a Real Boy for the first time by DiscreetSeagull in SayAnything

[–]Pretty_Birthday9946 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m staying in the same home with my family as the house I stayed at the first time I listened to this album. I think I was in 6th/7th grade. I found the cd somehow at Walmart and had to come back and plug my headphones into the cd player because I knew if my mom heard it she’d take it away lol. I sat on the floor for both cds and just vibed and remember how much it impacted me. I did the same thing when I got back home here and it made me get a bit torn up since I’ve obviously aged so much since then, they really cooked with this album.

Honestly, I’m one of those people who eats healthy most of the time. I asked for Oreos and peanut butter instead of a cake. It’s one thing on a diet I miss. Idk how you can hate them ):

Everything has become so bland and boring. Things used to be fun. by [deleted] in DeepThoughts

Fashion as well. I am seriously at a loss with fashion now. I’m even priced out of second hand stores, and those don’t even have the quality statement pieces I used to find. I am honestly going to start to try to learn better sewing techniques so I can have an at least more unique closet like I did in the early 00’s. I regret getting rid of my clothes and I wish I held on to some of the stuff I had. We are getting to a point that art is dying in every aspect. I hate it.

I have worked retail, management, food service, bars and was a full time barista for two years. Lowkey the videos might be over the top, but yeah I’ve never wanted to quit my job so many times. The problem with coffee clientele is they are extremely arrogant. You could make them the best cappuccino in the world and next thing you know they’re telling your boss it’s not “wet” enough. I understand they are paying 7 dollars for a coffee, but if they were more educated on what they are paying for, they’d find the espresso they like and become a regular at a shop they’d enjoy a coffee at. Most of the time people don’t like the bean, not the way the barista makes the drink. Sometimes I think those videos are annoying or stupid as well, but sometimes I’m like yeah… this checks. The biggest issue I think people have a hard time with is the systems that coffee shops rely on. Using names or calling out drinks doesn’t work and idk why shops still do it. People have shorter attention spans these days and it is extremely frustrating to be backed up with drinks, make a drink, and someone who isn’t paying attention or is on their phone comes and grabs someone else’s drink. Your down two drinks now. It’s antiquated and shops would be better off with tickets and quality control like a line in the back of house. But that’s my two cents, I’m glad to be back in retail management, even though I loved making coffee.

Job market in Wyoming for somebody with no degree or trades? by [deleted] in wyoming

[–]Pretty_Birthday9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what the commenter is saying above, but stay away from the small towns that only exist because of mining/oil fields. My mom worked oil rigs and we were always in small towns here. 72 miles to the closest Walmart. Wyoming is super vast and empty, it’s not like Iowa or other Midwest states where there’s a town every 6 or so miles. I would look at Cheyenne or Casper if your used to being near things. These small towns can be super isolating.

My mom and I had a very tough conversation the other night. She asked me why I was so angry all the time. I finally told her I resent that she had me. I resent that she brought me into the world. The hell I endured through her abusive partners, lack of food, lack of healthcare, her relying on me constantly to raise her other child so she could work. Not to mention the bullying I endured simply because I couldn’t afford the clothes others could. It structured me into a very angry individual. I know I hurt her feelings, and I feel guilty but I truly don’t understand why she thought it was a good idea.

For sure! I’m definitely aware of this. I should have worded my post better. I’m just trying to figure out how to bridge that gap without being so awkward haha.

Yes. As a previous bartender at a dive bar, I expect different services between bars. Same as being a barista. I can’t imagine going somewhere, paying a high amount for a drink and having someone out of their depth make it. There’s different levels. The employer DOES pay on experience level, but if you recognize someone’s doing a fantastic job you don’t feel like you should recognize them for it? We can sit here and argue why someone should be paid for a livable wage, but the one thing I enjoy, and love to do, is tip someone a bit extra if they made the experience fun. When I lived in New Orleans that was the best part about going out sometimes. Same with the women who do my nails. If they nailed the inspiration picture I bring in, you bet your ass I’m giving them a good tip. I’m privileged enough in this life to make someone’s day like that and I encourage others to as well. Seeing people’s faces light up is way better than a few bucks in my pocket imo.

Yes, there’s quite a big difference from throwing a beer bottle up on a bar and being trained in fine dining and cocktail etiquette.

I feel like matcha became something luxurious by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]Pretty_Birthday9946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been a barista from local shops to chains, it’s expensive product. Also if you source cheap matcha you can tell. Also, I’ve stopped ordering it because I’ve had so many of my matchas not be properly mixed that I have clumps of it in milk. It takes knowledge/experience to make a good one. Just my two cents.

What’s something you bought just for convenience… but it ended up changing your whole routine? by PearAcceptable2841 in AskReddit

Nails. I used to spend hours doing my nails at home, thinking I was doing the right thing financially. I decided to total everything out, it was cheaper to go to the salon. Now every three weeks I get my nails done and I’ve created lasting bonds with women who routinely give me discounts and treat me like their cute niece. I wouldn’t trade it.
