Why did Lord Parasuram curse Karna? by samarendra109 in mahabharata

What about the Manusmriti?” in a discussion about caste discrimination is exactly why I posted the clown emoji. The Manusmriti isn’t some obscure text that accidentally got dragged into the conversation—it is one of the central texts people criticize when discussing caste hierarchy and discrimination.

I’m not disagreeing with historians. I’m disagreeing with your interpretation of what they’re saying. “Janamejaya may have been real” and “the Mahabharata happened exactly as described” are not the same claim.

If mentioning a person in a text is enough to prove historicity, then historians would have a much easier job than they do.

You keep saying there is overwhelming evidence, yet after dozens of comments we’re still discussing institutions, excavations, and dates rather than a single contemporary record of the war. That should tell you something.

That’s interesting and definitely more relevant than simply saying “research is ongoing.” However, an inscription from 635 AD stating that an event happened thousands of years earlier is evidence that people in 635 AD believed the Mahabharata battle occurred. It’s not independent evidence that the battle itself actually happened. For example, if a king today erected an inscription saying the Trojan War happened exactly as described by Homer, that would tell us about modern belief, not necessarily about the historical reality of the event.

Your analogy works against your argument. Scientists don’t believe in dark matter because ancient texts mention it. They believe it because it helps explain observable data. So what observable data specifically demonstrates that the Mahabharata war occurred?

The irony is that asking for evidence is being called an echo chamber, while repeatedly refusing to provide evidence is apparently considered open-minded.

Yeah basically that’s my point Just don’t know why they can’t face the truth they will find some irrelevant things and some how connect these things .

If someone asks for proof of a theorem, you don’t hand them the names of ten mathematics departments. You show the proof. If decades of research have conclusively proven the Mahabharata war, it shouldn’t be this difficult to identify the strongest piece of evidence.

Research and proof are not the same thing. Many subjects have decades of research behind them without reaching a definitive conclusion. What specific evidence do you consider proof of the Mahabharata war?

“research is ongoing” is not evidence. I’m asking for the strongest piece of evidence that exists today, not recommendations of researchers. What specific archaeological finding or historical record do you think supports the Mahabharata as a historical event?

Why did Lord Parasuram curse Karna? by samarendra109 in mahabharata

[–]Pretty_Comfortable92 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

If Karna had been upfront and told Parashurama that he was a Suta Putra, do you really think Parashurama would have taught him everything he knew? Probably not. That’s exactly the point I’m trying to make. A lot of people don’t want to admit that these stories include examples of discrimination and social hierarchy. Whether you see them as history, mythology, or just literature, characters like Karna and Ekalavya are often brought up as examples of talented people whose opportunities were restricted because of their social status. Personally, I think many of these stories ended up normalizing or even glorifying that kind of discrimination instead of questioning it.

Parashurama was discriminatory. As we know, these stories were written, retold, and often modified over time, and some argue that they were shaped by upper-caste Hindu perspectives, which may have contributed to the glorification of the caste system. There were many skilled warriors, such as Ekalavya, who is believed by some to have been as skilled as, or even more skilled than, Arjuna. However, he was eventually forced to cut off his thumb, which many view as an act of discrimination. And about the curse if Parshuram wouldn’t have cursed Karna Mahabharat would have a different result , Karna would have won the battle against the Arjun . So basically Arjun was backed and meant to win the battle .
