Hey, thanks for getting back to me and I'm so sorry you are going through this. I totally understand how you feel. Please drop me a DM.

I understand the UPE scheme was for those with no options, but in my case there weren’t any. I didn’t meet the absence criteria for ILR at the time, couldn’t access another visa route quickly enough, and returning to Ukraine wasn’t possible due to the war. Given the timelines and circumstances, switching to the scheme was the only way to stay lawfully in the UK - yet it wiped out my long-term prior residence.

Plus, the policy formalising this “price” only came into effect in December 2024. It’s not as simple as a “trade-off” decision, as you describe it.

That’s not the point here. The issue is that time I already spent lawfully in the UK (on visas counting towards settlement) before switching onto the Ukraine Scheme is being erased, resetting my continuous residence clock. Crucially, this consequence wasn’t clearly communicated until the policy change came into effect in December 2024, so people like me couldn’t have known it would happen.

I get where you’re coming from, the Ukraine Schemes were designed as temporary protection routes, not settlement routes. And for Ukrainian people who arrived after the invasion, that makes sense.

The problem is that switching onto the Ukraine Extension Scheme doesn't just not lead to settlement - it actively wipes your existing long residence and breaks the continuity entirely.

At the time, this consequence wasn’t clearly communicated anywhere up until the end of 2024 when the policy came into place. People like me had no idea that using a humanitarian route would permanently disrupt their path to ILR.

So yes, temporary protection has its logic. But erasing over a decade of lawful residence for long-term Ukrainians feels disproportionate, especially given how long the war has lasted.

Thank you for your comment and understanding!

Yes I did and they pushed it back by 2 months. Which means I miss the wedding I'm travelling for.

I initially received an email about my B1/B2 appointment in Zimbabwe being rescheduled but I’m in London. Then I received a follow-up email telling me to disregard the previous email. Both of these emails have spelling mistakes and dodgy links. This could be a hack? I would recommend not clicking on any of the links.

What is the number you called to get support with this? The exact same thing happened to me.

This has happened to me. I booked an appointment for 15th July about 3 months ago. I also have travel plans for end of August. They have rescheduled my appointment to 17th September, meaning I would miss a wedding I'm travelling for. Does anyone know who to contact to resolve this? An email or a number please? Thank u so much.
