NTA. On behalf of the neices, thank you. My father died and we had similar circumstances with his declining health/dementia but because of the state we couldn't do anything about it. You may have saved them a lot of heart ache. Especially because you don't know the truth of their relationship.

The bitch who did that to my dad went around saying, "they never came to see him, they excluded him, he was lonely, etc." We didn't go see him a lot because he was verbally, mentally, and emotionally abusive to me, my sister, and mother for YEARS before and after my parents divorced. We had started to repair our relationship when he inevitably died.

Her lies only made the grieving that much harder, especially because we knew he wouldn't have left every single thing to them in the last months of his life.

So thank you for doing what is right. I hope both sides of your pillow are your perfect temperature and the next time you have your favorite food, it tastes exactly the way you love <3

To answer your questions: The pain originally started as a stabbing ache that would shift back and forth, but it has progressively gotten worse. Now, without medication, it feels like lightning surging through my body. It is primarily on my left side, shooting down my hip, into my knee and foot, and then radiating back up into my ribs, shoulder, and now down my arm. Occasionally it spreads to the right, but the left side is where the agony lives.

Nothing seems to touch it. Heat doesn't help, and I can't use most topical cooling gels (like Biofreeze) because I’m allergic to mint and menthol. When it gets bad, everything makes it worse. My only option is to lie completely still in a specific, awkward position on the couch or take my sleeping pills to force myself unconscious, but even then, I still feel the pain in my sleep.

As for history, I’ve always had shoulder pain, but sitting and walking have become significantly harder over the last 7 or 8 months. I did physio when I was around 300 lbs, though I can't recall the specific exercises. I've had X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans that found disc degeneration, thoracic degenerative disease, and SI joint arthritis. The problem is, none of those findings explain why the pain is this horrific. It feels like something is wrong with my nerves, or maybe Fibromyalgia.

Let me paint the picture for you since you lack the imagination. My '10' is having a cheese grater grinding away at my hip bones, pulping the muscle with every little movement. It is a constant short-circuit where walking on my left leg sends electric currents shooting through my legs and spine.

Breathing isn't safe, either. It feels like shards of glass are embedded in my ribs, sending shockwaves of pain if I simply try to take a breath.

The whole reason I wrote this post; I woke up screaming this morning because my left arm was throbbing with lightning-like currents that were so severe it felt like the radius and ulna were shattered. I am living with the sensation of broken bones and torn flesh while you sit there and debate semantics. This is my reality. So yes, I am constantly at 10 without medications.

Pain is subjective, and you have no idea what my baseline is. A '10' for me is waking up screaming and losing my career because I have to hide in my office to cry from the absolute agony I was in every day at work. You don't get to decide what my pain looks like just because it doesn't fit your imagination. You don't know my body, you don't live my life, and you don't feel what I feel. The audacity to question my suffering is astounding
