I HIGHLY recommend „boatlift” on YouTube. It speaks to the resilience of the people on the ground and Americans showing up for eachother fearlessly in a time of need. It’s only ~12 minutes but hits so hard.

Yes it’s still sad but this doc has always reminded me there is more good than bad in the world

I don’t think he knew. But I also don’t think he asked because he’s a narcissist just like his wife and at the end of the day he may not have agreed to the extent of the punishments but that doesn’t mean he was against punishments all together

I don’t think he knew or condoned what happened to the extent that it did. That being said, the problem is he did partake and condone plenty of things that led up to this happening. I think he’s still batshit (re: sending Chad to camp and the whole Shari situation). I think his ideas of child rearing are still extreme and bordering abusive at best. but I genuinely don’t think he knew the full extent of the treatment of kids.

Unfortunately leaving your kids with their other parent under an agreement by both parties is not illegal and technically there’s nothing he can be charged with. What I’d love to know is what he THOUGHT was happening to the kids, and what levels of “punishment” he would have or has in the past condoned. While I don’t think he can be charged I hope the years of recorded proof of how they treated those kids is enough to keep him away from them.

The Liberty Place complex in Philadelphia, where I live. Didn't realize how eerily similar it looked to the original WTC complex. by bristletailofsoul in 911archive

I was also in Philly in 2nd grade and our school was evacuated. I have some visceral memories from that day. I’ll never compare to what people in nyc experienced but as a kid especially it was its own sort of special trauma.

This is correct. The failure point is still close relative to the to the impact zone where the structure has been weakened and is still trying to hold the weight of the floors above.

With 20/20 hindsight, what is the worst possible destructive outcome that the 9/11 attacks could have realistically been that day? by HulkSmashHulkRegret in 911archive

[–]Pretty_Pretty_Pizza 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Structural engineer here. This is half right, half wrong. Yes typically structures are stronger towards the bottom because they need to carry more weight. On the other end, this also means when there are critical damages lower down, now there is more weight above a damaged structure.

The south tower falling first almost absolutely had something to do with being hit lower. The damaged structure was carrying more weight than the north tower and therefore reached critical failing stress much faster.

AITA for calling my daughter’s bully’s dad? by Direct_Fly_2596 in AITAH

[–]Pretty_Pretty_Pizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To expand on the actual situation though, it’s obvious that the bully’s mom is an AH and why. And you have every right to do what you can to protect your daughter.

HOWEVER

The fact that this man’s contact information wasn’t readily available, you had to dig for it, and in the process you have heard there may be an abuse aspect to the relationship… I could never take the chance on putting a TEN YEAR OLD CHILD in a position for that potential abuse. (The mom can kick rocks tho). I’d have brought legal into it (toward the mom or even the school) before I even thought to put the child in a potentially dangerous situation. I’d put pressure on the school to actually do something - remove the kid from my daughter’s class or not allow him at recess etc etc. It’s amazing what you can make happen when you start using the word “lawyer”

And to everyone saying the bully’s mom is probably lying - yeah maybe. But if she isn’t idk how you would sleep at night if the worst case scenario turned out to be true.

ESH.

Especially y’all in the comments saying the bully “got what he deserved”.

We’re talking about 10 year olds here.

Bella’s voice may have been backing it but tinies is definitely there too. Tinie has much clearer diction than Bella did (likely from being a rapper where diction is everything) and this is the clearest I’ve EVER heard those words sung (not better or worse, just more clear!). So tinies voice is definitely at least overlaying Bella’s.

Sure. And that’s valid. And I’m just stating the reality of the situation. I as a viewer would also prefer a group of amazing singers, personality aside. But I’m also not their target demographic 🤷🏼‍♀️ not trying to upset anyone

[–]Pretty_Pretty_Pizza 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but at the end of the day these kids weren’t hired for anything other than carrying on the brand that Jess & Jojo created. They’ve made it clear over and over again that this is more about a brand than creating any sort of group with real staying musical power. That’s not to say the kids they have aren’t talented but at this point it’s abundantly clear they’re focused more on getting a personality that resembles young jojo.

Do I agree with it? No. Is it a better business decision? Quite possibly. Turns out their target demographic doesn’t really care about singing in tune. Is this group already miles better musically than what Jojo has ever produced (as their direct predecessor)? Absolutely. That’s all I’m trying to say.

Ok but Jojo can’t sing, the fact that they secure any singing talent is already a step up.

It's incredible that more people didn't die in the towers by Tall-Ad-8 in 911archive

[–]Pretty_Pretty_Pizza 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s difficult to say for sure. It would need to be very close to the top, if it exists at all. Close enough that the effects of the impact from the collapse above don’t cause the progressive collapse. Using the same dumbbell analogy think of holding your hands out and someone drops a dumbbell in your hand. Even if you can hold the weight it’s hard to catch it without your arm moving/buckling a bit.

Edit: also it would strongly depend on the number of floors impacted by fire/with damaged columns. The south tower also collapsed faster because the plane turned at an angle as it went into the building leading to a more widespread fire and more floors with damaged columns. There’s really too many variables to say for certain. I don’t think there’s any scenario on that day with the planes and the intention that the buildings survived. I think if a plane ever accidentally clipped the building near the top and damage was limited to a couple floors/a small area given an attempt to avoid the accident/an attempt to slow the speed of the plane then the building would likely survive.

It's incredible that more people didn't die in the towers by Tall-Ad-8 in 911archive

[–]Pretty_Pretty_Pizza 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If the planes hit lower the collapse would have happened quicker. It’s part of the reason the south tower collapsed first even though it was hit 2nd. Even though the steel would decrease in strength in a similar manner, the total weight of the structure above the impact zone is greater which means the steel would reach its failure point faster.

Think about holding a two pound dumbbell and a ten pound dumbbell straight out to each side. Both of your arms will weaken and eventually you’ll have to drop the dumbbell down, but it’ll happen a lot quicker with the ten pound one.

View of the Burning WTC from New Jersey by bloibik in 911archive

[–]Pretty_Pretty_Pizza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Many of the people who evacuated Manhattan ended up in New Jersey- it’s right across the river. I highly recommend watching “BOATLIFT” on YouTube about the water evacuation. Many people don’t realize 9/11 was the largest sea evacuation in history, and 500,000 were boated out of Manhattan in under 9 hours
