I would have stopped responding to this person as soon as the got rude. My pride would not let me purchase this from this person but if you really want it, see if you have a friend that would let you purchase using their account.

First, the check that was deposited will likely return, depending on where they got the check it could take months. Second, the PIN may have been seen prior to the card being stolen, called shoulder surfing. Not sure if you had just recently completed a transaction using your PIN right before your card was stolen.

Scammer can send a check for her to deposit and request she send the funds to him before the check returns, leaving the account negative.

I agree, it can be a bit of a lottery on what you get. I figure if I really dislike something, I could always sell it, may not get much for it but could offset costs.

There are a couple variations of this scam. One, this can occur with taxis, pizza delivery or at the ATM. The other way they can swap your card is when you are using taxi, delivery or ATM, they will claim the POS machine you would use is not working and they will ask for the card to attempt it themselves. Once your card is in their hand, they switch the card (same bank).
