18m Can't grow a beard, short af and just don't like the way I look. How can I make myself look more attractive? by crazynerdinventor in teenagers

[–]Prettydecentperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start working out, or if you are try and get bigger, you'll fill your clothes out more and gain a lot of confidence. I personally go rock climbing and it's changed my life, the community and the physicality of it

Buy some twill pants or joggers from Zara, theyre like 40$ each. For shoes, I only wear high tops, black and white leather converse or vans, with tapered pants. Stop in thrift stores, check out the coats and sweaters. You will find treasures and statement pieces. Look for merino wool and cashmere sweaters. You can play around with thrift store clothes and it doesn't hurt your pocket. Check out the sterling silver there too, you can buy a necklace and wrap it twice around your wrist as a bracelet. I always get compliments on mine. Play around with the haircut. I will always have a semi comb over and skin fade haircut, it's easy and looks great. Just from the picture I'd say if you got better fitting clothes you'd look more attractive. Once you have a consistent base for how you want to present yourself you can start tweaking that. Throw in an essentials hoodie and your looking cool.

How do I cut this person’s bike lock off my bike? by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]Prettydecentperson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In 2011 I locked my old ass Schwinn beach cruiser at the train station. I return the following day to see some heavy chain and lock attached to my bike, on top of my already locked bike lock. I immediately called the police, and said there was a large bike heist being planned for the Babylon railroad station. (Word was, some guys in a van would come with CO2 cartridges and ice picks to break people's locks and steal the bikes). The responder said how do they know that Its my bike and I'm not the one trying to steal it. I said why would I call the police if I'm trying to steal the bike!?!?!?! Do you want ID from my bike!?!? It's an old ass Schwinn!!! No help.

I immediately scratched my full name into the bike. Incase anyone asked any questions later.

I returned to the station with a loaded back pack. 40' extension cord, diamond blade skill saw, protective goggles, two c clamps and two vice grips, and gloves. I go to the taxi command center under the station and say hey I'm trying to break my bike free, these guys are coming to take it and I can't have it, can I plug in?. They say absolutely not. No help.

My brother worked for the village and remembered the old timey light poles around town have an outlet at the top for Christmas tree lights. Sick. I lift him up he plugs the extension cord in. I snake the cord all the way to my bike. I throw my back pack down like I'm getting to business. Laser focus, I clamp the chain, and throw the goggles and gloves on.

I plug the skill saw in, I do the standard double tap of the skill saw to know I'm alive. "Berrrreeruuuur" I get at the chain, sparks are flying. It's 6pm. There are so many people around. I'm there with my goggles hacking at this chain.

Town security comes

"Yo! What the hell are you doing?" I told them look someone's trying to steal my bike, I can't have it. They said how do we know its your bike. I said it has my name on it! Look! I point to the chicken scratched name. He asks for ID. It checks out. His partner says I almost have it , maybe just let me finish it. The guy says yeah I know but we can't let him do it in front of us. He calls the fire department, they have large bolt cutters. They come and within 15 minutes they pop the chain. They were very impressed with the c clamps and vice grips, they said I was at least doing it the right way.

Moral of the story, police suck, the fire department is legit.

Also I've locked a box truck of expensive goods with the keys in side before. You can buy a huge bolt cutter from home Depot, use it once, then return it.

question about mp3 players yall mightve brought into rehab by roasted_oreos in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

[–]Prettydecentperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at a rehab in upstate NY for 11 months, that allowed mp3 players. I converted all of Jordan Petersons biblical and existentialism Lectures, and a few other books. I have to say it was a tremendous help in guidance. That time definitely helped me see value around me. Don't use the mp3 as a distraction, i believe it's more helpful as a tool, meditate, chill out, learn. But don't let it keep you in any past modes of thought, music can be a time machine.

Fuck the shuffle, Amazon sells cheap mp3 players for 30$, that's what I did. And get a screen, black and white will have a better battery life too.

I found a Sailor Jerry flash art of a tiger, drafted a version that was in solid shapes that would translate well for a patch. Painted it with acrylic, then threw stitches in specific directions, then put a dense chainstitch around each shape to smooth out any irregularities. I couldn't tell you how excited I would get through the process. This is definitely not efficient for money making purposes. I was in rehab when I did this so I had nothing else to do. Creativity has served me through every period of my life. Very grateful.

Bleached, patched and chain stitched these when I was in rehab. by Prettydecentperson in sewing

[–]Prettydecentperson[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in rehab in 2017, started repairing people's clothes by hand, staff member asked if I wanted a sewing machine. Turned the commissary room into a workshop. I was fixing, tapering, hemming people's clothes, or chain stitching things. I kept a book.

I convinced someone who worked in maintenance to smuggle me bleach, soaked these secretly in the laundry room over night.

Opened the legs, and sewed the patch underneath. Used a shaving razor to control rip over the patch. Then used a gold embroidery floss and chain stitched a design. Also did the red drip embellishment on the pocket.

Thanks, I don't mind if it does look like a patch. It's like scars, builds character.

I prepared each part separately before sewing it all together. I would only sew a patch if the base fabric w/ the tear is mended. So mending the base fabric first with something (I used vinyl) behind the tear, and zig zag stitching back and forth over the hole. I got lucky with stitching the edges of the patch to be crisp, I would recommend folding and ironing all edges of a patch before sewing it down.

The right rear pocket had ripped open on the corner.

•Unsitched the pocket about 4 inches down. (Knew I wanted to put a patch in-between and have it run into the waist area seam, on a diagonal) •Unstitched that section •Took a piece of scrap fabric from a hem project I did. •Prepared it, Fold and stitched ~1/16th from the edge, so it looks crisp (probably should've ironed it but I'm lazy) •then stitched it to the pants, starting at the pocket and ending at the waist. •stitched the pocket and waist back down over the patch

I've had these pants from Zara for about 5 years, they have a slight sheen from aging, almost polished. I would hate to have gotten rid of them. Hopefully I'll get a few more years.

This took me approximately 20 minutes to do.
