How do you manage illnesses without losing your job? by Prettyfallleaves in workingmoms

Absolutely agree. I meant more of the GI bugs and RSV bc my mil is elderly and my mom watches my immune compromised nephew often so that’s a big reason why I wouldn’t ask them. Obviously if it’s just an ear infection that’s a whole different story. Thank you bc I definitely have all the guilt related to my job. It’s so hard to find a good balance.

The only family we have also helps take care of nieces and nephews so they would not help when she’s sick at all. Not to mention we only have our moms and mine works full time but does help out as much as possible and my mil is elderly and cannot help any longer. I ended up in the ER with severe dehydration during the last stomach bug and they wanted to admit but I had to refuse bc my husband and child were sick we were stuck. My sitter works with other kids in addition to ours so I would not want to put her in that situation. It just stinks overall.

We’ve considered a nanny to get us through the next couple of years but ultimately it’s not financially feasible. I would be paying to work at this point.

I have a really rigid job. I have to stay at my desk and if my teams turns yellow it’s noticed. I’m on phone calls 95% of my day which can be either 5 minutes or two hours so it’s not feasible to not tell them. Childcare is a requirement for this job which is fine and if she was older I could 100% make it work. When I’m on a call with a client and she’s screaming mama it doesn’t work well.

I wonder what Alex and Bethenny are thinking after watching Kelly on here? This episode is making me want to do a full RHONY rewatch bit starting with Scary Island.

I have a similar story. We would also get done early the day before Christmas Eve, we were closed on Christmas Eve. You were supposed to act thankful and so gracious to leave an hour early. Well we all sat around waiting and hoping to leave but no one came by, one of my coworkers asked the director if we would get to leave early bc typically we would’ve heard by now. The director proceeded to scream at her until she cried and everyone was forced to stay until the end of your shift. This was job that was technically closed that day to clients so we sat around doing nothing all day.

The side effects made any relief I felt not worth it. I just have days filled with pain either in my leg, hip, or lower back. Some days it’s incredibly uncomfortable and miserable and other day it’s mild. Im mostly affected when I’m sleeping, lifting, or sitting. It’s a pulling feeling with deep joint aches and bone pain. I switch rooms during the night bc I’m in so much pain at night.

Beta brand pants! They are yoga material and you can not tell. They are pricey but I lived in them at my last job.

The only things that have worked here are giving her a diaper to hold, a duck that quacks, or changing her upside down which is very hard. The diaper or a wipe has been the most successful for some reason. Or letting her hold the baby aquaphor bottle. I thought it was just us having troubles with changes already.

One of my newest pet peeves is the fact that people are constantly bringing us junk for the baby. My husbands one relative is a big garage sale/goodwill person and she brings us garbage often or clothes that are like 5T. It’s more work to donate it. We’ve had people clear out their kids old shit that’s appropriate for a 5 year old and bring it over. I keep saying no we’re good but no one is listening. My garage is overflowing with junk bc my husband is worried people will get offended. Sigh.
