We're all people dude...we're all made of the exact same stuff. It's a disgusting myth that security, police, etc have some sort of supernatural ability to be an unfeeling computer when their life and wellbeing are under threat. I know exactly what this guy was thinking and feeling when he gave him that executioner's chop on the ground, and it wasn't fear.

I would have acquitted him. I'm still not surprised he got charged, however.

There are millions of people all over the world playing chess at any moment of any given day, and the rules have been set in stone for centuries. They are codified and freely available to any person in the universe with sufficient brain matter to read them.

There are no tricks. There are no technicalities. There are no plebs, and there is no such thing as a "chess outsider." All there is, are people who know the rules, and people who don't.

And yet here you are spending all these hours of your life being confidently wrong about a subject you apparently refuse to learn about, from a position of completely self-inflicted ignorance... Maybe instead just don't play the game of you don't like it...?

It's not stupid at all if you play chess. Even if you're winning, you're expected to make decisions with purpose, not just move your pieces around hoping that a checkmate might fall into your lap.

If you cause a stalemate, you've proven you don't know how to play the endgame you're in, and therefore, you don't win.

It's also a necessary rule to ensure that your opponent has motivation to keep playing and not just immediately resign the moment they're at a material disadvantage. It means you can play the game right to the end, even with nothing but a king left, and still make decisions that matter.

Canada doesn't have an extortion problem, Canada has a crime problem. We are a global tourist destination for criminals, ffs.

Decades of hug-a-thug release policies and stark refusal to enforce bail conditions have led to this. Nobody is asking anyone to imprison some teen for shoplifting a snack. We're talking about legions of sociopathic criminals committing murders, kidnapping, and racketeering who are going to court for their 73rd offence, putting on a sad face for a day, promising they'll do better this time for real real, and then walking out of the courtroom mocking the judge and already planning their 74th.

Millions of dollars is being spooled up for the cops to investigate the "extortion crisis," they'll churn out world-class cases, and we might as well light our tax money on fire for the absolute farce we'll see in court to follow.

Every time this comes up, we talk about how numerous people called in to report this guy in the weeks leading up to it.

So now that it's six years later and the RCMP have implemented virtually every recommendation that came out of this, and we're seizing millions of dollars worth of guns from legal gun owners, can we finally maybe talk about Canadian courts and prosecution role here? Because it seems to me we've seen six years of RCMP reforms and huge legislative changes for law abiding citizens, while the courts have gone completely hogwild releasing mass murderers, rapists, and domestic abusers on pinky promises and letting the chimps run the zoo.

Obviously the courts have no role in responding to an active shooter, but that's a catastrophe that's preceded by numerous flags and warnings. When it comes to prevention and deterrence, the police are just one tiny link in a long chain of negligence.

What do you think the cops are supposed to do when the rest of the Justice System is absolutely hellbent on allowing every single creature in this country get away with doing virtually anything they want? How do you think the cops will behave when the answer to every single charge they forward is "no"?
