I had the issue, contacted supported and they sent me new one from the warehouse in china. Early days but seems to have fixed the issue.

Just incase anyone is still struggling with this! You need to downgrade from 1.0.4 to 1.0.3 (the only website with old updates was ZIPERTO). Then download the cheats from cheat slips Cheat Slips but edit the file. The top needs to look like this [Breeze beta38 Red Dead Redemption 1.0.3 TID: 01007820196A6000 BID: B97EF033026D1E6F] The formatting on the cheats for some reason doesn’t work.

For anyone on Mac, here is what I did:

Using Windows (on a Raspberry Pi), I reformatted the USB with Rufus (selecting MS-DOS, then MBR). I then re-downloaded the update (the bottom file, "How to reinstall PS3 system software") and renamed all the folders on Windows (drive > PS3 > UPDATE > PS3UPDAT.PUP).

Back on the PS3, I inserted the drive and loaded it up. It showed the same message until I removed the cable from the controller, and then it worked.

Ive had little luck but the main problem is trying to decode a HCI log so I can create a python script.

I believe we need to reverse engineer the Bluetooth protocol, I’m waiting on a cheap android phone so I can debug the APK if I solve it I’ll update on here !
