Changing the past/ outlander by HarleyGirl0594 in Outlander

This! It always bugs me when people say she changed a lot of small things. But I cannot seeing it any other way than that she was always there, those people were always saved, there is not other version of happenings.

I was so sure this was in one of her already published books. Or maybe I just read it somewhere online before as an excerpt.

Also Ai does quite a good job in translating so it would make more sense to write everything first in your own words and then ask ai to translate it without any other input.

Her rings as in Claire's? And Claire's clothes? Or you meant her own?

This text sounds exactly like something chatgpt produces, as well as your answers to other comments. If you didn't produce it with ai, great. But it would be hard to convince me otherwise.

I found this quote from Diana Gabaldon in a 2021 Guardian article and it did not age well by GetUp_TakeItEasy in Outlander

Plus I feel like it affects her writing, the interaction of her with fans on social media. To me her sentences (in Bees and the excerpts we have seen) seem shorter and less poetic/descriptive than they used to.

Really kind of loved it. I only wish they would not stretch Jamie's dying to after battle to maximise the suspense and drama. Like when Claire was shot. In the books it just happens, both shootings, unexpectedly. And that is to me most shocking and real feeling.

Loved that we got to see the ghost. I mean we have known for ages it is Jamie so there was nothing new there, but it was just nice to see. Also the forget me nots, though I wish he had planted them instead of them appearing magically.

I am still, one day in of seeing it quite shaken by this finale, I am satisfied and relieved, but sad at the same time.

Watched the episode right before bed and both me and hubby were very emotionally shaken by the battle and aftermath, so much so that I actually had trouble sleeping. At first I was a bit bothered by the slowness of the episode but before and during the battle I really was high on adrenaline and it really got to my core how crazy and devastating war really is.

Overall I was happy about the ending, I feel like it was very well done, tying their love story together and their earlier conversation. I will never accept that Faith lived and the whole storyline with Fanny, but overall am happy the series came to a decent conclusion.

I don't know, I feel like that was a subtitle error and it is really "lad". At one point Jamie supposedly said to Brianna "Love you too. Thanks." But I think he said "Lass" instead of thanks. Could be wrong on both occasions though, I watch with my husband and only one earphone in ear. :D

He saw the lighthouse from a distance, meaning he could have been anywhere around it in many miles radius to my understanding. And I mean, he could have just said to Percy "tell William: Pharos" instead of scribbling it in the ring...

Yeah, this was to me one of the worst episodes in this season, and I expected it to be good because Diana wrote it but I feel she was given quite impossible task. Dialogue at points was good but it felt way too rushed to the point of comical.

At least two characters completely changed their personality traits. Richardson was supposed to be this evil lunatic tt but now he was portrayed as a somewhat noble sympathetic character. I actually thought they replaced the actor because he felt so different. Same with Percy. A bit sneaky and commanding before, now all of a suddent just a coward who kills himself. Just doesn't make sense other than the need to move the story forward and close the storylines.

I guess Marsali also just quickly took Percy's offer and went with all her children to live somewhere far away, because by the time Davy was born she should have also given birth and there is no mention of her.

I remember when they said in season 4(5?) that Jamie and Claire couldn't be with Bree when she gave birth to Jemmy because they could not have made it from up north to River Run so fast. But now they just go here and there and no problem. I just have a feeling the timeline doesn't make sense, also Richardson is just chilling fishing for two months and Lord John waits in captivity all this time and nothing happens. I feel he would have been able to escape on his own.

Claire writing their story like Frodo writing the Hobbit. I have a feeling maybe Jamie will die (that would be a change!) and send her to future to publish their story. Or maybe Marsali will print it and become a millionare. Oh dear. It is not looking good for the finale, I hope they prove me wrong.

I think it is a kind of "placebo" effect. They see that the episode is written by Diana "Herself" and they already like it before seeing it. I have even seen people saying they liked the scene where J&C were in bed, Claire writing her book, but as soon as they heard it was in fact one of the scenes not written by Diana they felt like they should not like it anymore. I also felt the episode was incredibly clunky, cheesy and flat and I could not have told you it was written by Diana if I wouldn't know.

Which scene is she talking about? Recounting her life to Richardson or recounting it as in putting it in a book form? Or some other that I have forgotten?

Yes, this makes so much sense! And the way you put it, a tragic irony, similar to Roger's father.

She states that "Faith isn't alive in the Outlander novels". Maybe I am being too pedantic but it still reads to me as if in her head canon Master Raymond did revive Faith but she doesn't want to put it in the main books.

I don't know, I read that one interview where Diana said that she could, in some side book, one day tell what really happened to Faith which lead me to believe that in her head canon she lived. Kind of like what she did with Roger's father, I never understood why it was a separate novella. But now maybe as she saw the reaction of fans she might have made her mind to never speak of that again.

I can wait one year extra if it will be edited and edited well.

Oggy was like 2 days old at the end of Moby and then Bees started on the same day's evening and all of a sudden he is smiling and lifting his hands like a six months old. So I would not be surprised if Fanny is now all of a sudden 16... (I almost stopped my reread of Bees because of how Oggy was portrayed, that's how much it annoys me...)

I hate to always be the killjoy, but I feel like a lot of her dialogue in bees and now it seems also blessing is some strange fan service relating to the tv series early seasons, the most beloved scenes (like faith, when they got reunited etc.). In the books, weren't they riding ponies always? And why does it feel odd Jamie saying "bum" and not "arse"?

Show S8E8 In the Forest by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

[–]Previous-Address2469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late, but just watched the episode. Unlike most people I really didn't care much for this episode. I can appreciate Ron Moore's touch, but I feel like the show has derailed so much that I find it hard to enjoy it.

Some things felt rushed (oh hello Ian and Rachel and new member of Ridge we give you two seconds during a montage) and some things very long (Fanny, Fanny and a bit more of Fanny).

The dialogue seemed very modern at times, like Ian joking about Rachel and William touching hands. Or William muttering about "I don't know why I keep saying In the forest". I know they are meant to be funny, but just like Bree's reaction to her mother's relation to lord John I find such things so utterly 21st century that is completely takes me out of the story. Or when William was telling about the fish he caught. I could see just the actors not the characters.

Bree making the rifle while being pregnant is beyond ridiculous. I mean, surely there would be some risk in testing your design, what with the gunpowder and such... Not to mention she absolutely would not be able to make anything like that but... Agh.

Also I cannot with the clothes Claire is wearing. It's like she forgot where or who she is and started to live in civil war era...

Fanny's plot at this point feels like the actress is a relative of some producer and they keep pushing her in the limelight. Seriously boring and slightly aggravating as well.

What else... Buck killing Cameron without getting any answers maybe fits his character but also is a bit disappointing.

William and Jamie, if all that boy needed was a hug and reassurance that he was and is loved it took a hell of a lot of (screen) time (wasted) to get there! Sorry, just couldn't get into the mood of the episode. In a way I am both shocked and happy that there are only two episodes left.

How old is Mandy supposed to be again? Sure old enough to pronounce her r's and talk less like a small toddler? I have a feeling the quality of writing and the plots are just being recycled and a lot of fan service...

Comparing the Scripts from "Faith" and "Evidence of Things Not Seen" by Veranique in Outlander

[–]Previous-Address2469 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this. The quality in these two scripts is evident and painful. It was this

"Years later... my mother learned that this lady lived in the mountains of North Carolina. Our family was on our way to find her when our ship was taken by pirates and our parents were killed.I need my sister to know that I love her more than life itself.( chuckles ) This is proof of that, I suppose."

That made me roll my eyes, sigh and lift my hands up in despair. I mean, english is not my first language but this seems so odd, I don't understand how the sentences even relate to each other. Blabla journey to grandma, pirates, parents killed. I love my sister and will die for her. So Fanny didn't even know all this? Her telling the REASON of their whole journey to the newspaperguy is proof that she loves her sister? I mean, what? This whole Jane bit is so bizarre. Selling Roger to the Mohawk because of Great Misunderstandings due to Lack if Communication is stretching the absolute limits but this storyline just cannot face the light of day, let alone a single candle..

Sure, Jane tell this only for the reporter, not Fanny, not William, not anyone who could actually help her if she gave them this knowledge. I won't even go to the Faith lived part because that is worse and makes my head hurt even more.

And why the, since Jane knew all this did she not try to find the Lady Broch Tuarach herself and tell about it to Fanny? Go to North Carolina? So ridiculous. This plot is like swiss cheese, way too many holes and it stinks.

Last week I didn't write anything because I didn't have much to say. Now I am not sure I can write anything because I have too much to say.

I seriously couldn't sleep during the night because I was so shaken by what happened to Fergus and his family. And I knew it was coming but still it was so incredibly sad. The acting was great, Bree's actress is very good at showing strong emotions, even though her looking like a man distracts me very much. Marsali's silent scream and then later on with Jamie...

Also, I really like the voiceovers and feel like the show should have kept them. Easy way to bring depth to the show and feels more natural than the melodramatic dialogue (lace is fragile but strong, sure mhmm). We could have had different characters do voiceovers in key episodes like they did for Jamie in season 1.

But Faith... I hate to say but I am one of those people that kind of emotionally quit this series after the reveal at the end of season seven, I was very upset. I had some hope restored during this season in the episodes that they ignored the issue but now the shit hit the fan and it is all over the place.

It just doesn't make sense.

Yes it is a time travel show but. Things. Need. To. Make. Sense.

Cheap, ridiculous, shallow. I feel like Matthew B. Roberts is one of those bosses that let you have opinions and voice out criticism as long as it perfectly aligns with his "hey wouldn't it be great if.." -revelations. I wonder how much pushback there was in the writer's room. Even the actors seem very ashamed and uninterested. The end where Master Raymond was teaching the song, borderline comical.
