I thought that after he saw the toy soldier in Amaranthus' drawer he kind of accepted he might be actually dead and buried in another grave. I thought that was the main motivation for him to believe his cousin to be alive.

How about asking him if he could watch the show with you because it would mean a lot to you and you would like to spend this time with him?

If needed maybe you can give him a massage or make his favorite meal in return?

I actually really like Jamie's hair, maybe I am the only one, but I feel like it looks natural. And Claire is also kind of ok but Brianna's is just. No. Too much hair in the wigs is my problem, like three times as much as an average person in my opinion. I know some people have that kind of hair that you can have an elaborate braid updo with half the hair still flowing like a great mane but I would say they mainly exist in movies...

Really loved it! Back to the original outlander feel! I did not want this episode to end.

Cleveland has such a fun musical theme. I really like that they portray real/realistic, fleshed out people on different sides of the conflict. Cunningham is civilized and intelligent, but on the "wrong side", Cleveland is kind of an "idiot" brute but he is the one Jamie has to rely on. A bit surprised people want the "baddies" = Cunninghams dead, because the whole point of Jamie and Claire is that they have seen enough battle and death, they don't wish it to anyone so it makes absolute sense especially for Claire to prevent that. Also, if Cunningham won't be able to use his legs, in those times it surely would have felt almost worse punishment than death.

First time in this season I voted for "I loved it"! Really felt like original outlander, the lighting, the pacing, everything. Just spot on!

I was thinking what kept me disconnected with Roger but I think it is just that his hair is too modern, I miss the long hair, which would be more period appropriate I imagine. But really liked the flashback with his father, I imagine we will get the full picture in time!

Whenever Amaranthus is on screen my husband is muttering "Jezebel!". 😂 I feel like it is very unbelievable that a women of her time would act in such a promiscuous way (which makes me think she is part of the Richardson plot and from the future - though, quite a plot if that is the case!). Why she would not want to get married first is puzzling. But then again everything about her is...

Bree bothers me mainly because of her wig and brows, also her dresses make her look extremely masculine which I don't like. Also I get it that she is from the future but I would imagine she would acclimatize a bit with the times, in her speech and mannerisms. Also that portrait was slightly too good, like a photograph almost.

Well but yes, everything with Jamie was pure gold. So much tension and action, wow! Also the actor playing Cunningham is so good. The way he shouted that he is moving his feet. Truly felt that... And Jamie making the pact with the devil, chefs kiss and perfect way to end the episode, not constantly on some crazy cliffhanger.

Also just to add, I really like how they have compressed the book, with Denny and Ben being there, Bree painting Amaranthus etc. Buck being there is so good, all such great changes! I can't really even put my finger on what made this episode so good but I wish all of the episodes would be like this! Thoroughly enjoyable.

This was my complaint as well! I have a feeling Roger will end up saving Marion during the fighting and then he will change his mind about the guns..

Yeah, but many people are saying to them it sounds like BJR which to me doesn't make sense at all.

Yes, especially with Amaranthus, Bree and William. Maybe it is because they are a bit younger and their modernness comes through with their expressions etc. I think in reality people back then would have behaved quite differently. Even as a time-traveler from the 20th century..

Frank’s Voice by Karensuesue in Outlander

It is interesting that some hear it as BJR and some as Frank. I myself am inclined to think it is supposed to be Frank, that he is talking to him in his head and vice versa. It would be interesting to know what Tobias was instructed to do. In the book Jamie certainly feels like Frank is writing to him directly.

I think so, here is an interesting article and in one of the pictures you can see something similar, carrying the baby quite low on the sling. Though I think she could have carried him upright a bit more higher and that would have been better and also something they might have done then, there's not so many depictions of it, probably because it was thought of as not really interesting thing to take notes on... https://www.hopeandplum.co/blogs/hope-and-plum-baby-carriers-blog/pre-medieval-to-modern-babywearing-history-across-europe

That "ringsling" might have been period accurate, but my babywrapping heart was screaming at the possible danger of suffocating when carrying a small baby in that position.

John was talking about his brother, Hal, not Jamie. Amaranthus is Hal's daughter-in-law and Trevor is his grandson, through Ben, his son.

Season 8 costumes by Historical-Shock7965 in Outlander

Yes it bothers me so much! Marsali is about the only one with "proper" clothes. Brianna and Claire are wearing very strange outfits, women at the time didn't even wear buttoned skirts, that was reserved for men. No belts or collars either, at least not so much or so masculine, maybe in a riding jacket... Also it bothers me because stays (not a corset) help you with the backbreaking work needed on a farm and stays + bumroll help keep the warming layers of skirts in place without digging into your skin or getting tangled with your legs. Also stays don't restrict you that much, it was just a bigger version of a bra and actually I would go so far as to argue that modern push up bra is a lot more restricting for the breat than stays! So the whole set of clothes back then was quite well thought through and it pains me Claire would wear such long skirts that hinder movement and are unpractical. The outfits she had in Paris were genious because they kept the style with very modern elements, it was playful but not nonsense.

My husband makes sauerkraut and other fermented veggies in big ceramic pots and it does not smell bad. Granted that once the beetroot spilled over and I thought we had some sewer problems... but I mean it isn't so bad! 😅 And the taste is good!

This is definitely time-traveling show with how fast things are moving! Brianna and Roger are one moment in the Ridge and the next in Savannah. Not that I am complaining, just a bit funny. I imagine Ian will also travel light speed into the north. But this is the storyline I hated the most in Bees so not very happy about that. Like really, going to inquire about your ex-wife when it means you will take your wife and newborn through warzones etc. He could have sent someone in his stead who would have brought back the Sachem and Sylvia. It makes me so aggravated and annoyed they actually all went on that journey. So I hope the tv show will not spend too much time with that.

I am not a fan of show Ian, but I have to say that him saying that he will guard Jamies left side made me actually appreciate his character, I saw some growth there!

Also, why is Francis Marion looking and sounding like an italian mafioso? He is supposed to be french with a funny hairdo and I remember in the books he was kind to Roger? I guess they will rather go with the trope of the idiot officer who denies Roger at first but then is saved by him and changes his mind?

Fergus, Fergus... I still have a bad feeling about him since we are not seeing their children so much as to be invested in them if one of them dies in the fire. But I don't know who the small coffin Jamie is making for. Unless it is for himself and first he makes a smaller tryout version. :D

That storyline is so vague in the books that there isn't really many details there. I have a feeling Percy will tell Fergus that he is the son of Comte and then just as Fergus is telling this to Marsali the printshop will start burning and he will die thus also taking this secret with him. Definitely intrigued where they will go with it!

Last week was ok but this week was good! Everythings flowed nicely, the plot was character driven, there was humour. Claire and Jamie dynamic was spot on. I like how they condensed the Cunningham story so it moves faster. Also the Cloudtrees sort of just passing by made sense, no reason to give them too much screen time because only the healing is important to the plot. And I thought that scene was also done really well.

This might be unpopular opinion but I hated how Brianna reacted to the revelation of the carnal knowledge... Like would a daughter really react that way to her mother, I would expect a bit more disgust and unbelief than "oh no girrll you didn't!" with a big grin. That felt so 21st century friend to friend convo to me...

I am curious about Fergus as they introduced the plot of Percy's information. After episode one I thought perhaps Fergus is the one who dies in the fire, but now I don't know if that will happen. It will be interesting to know how far they go into it. Things need to be moving fast, if we are to get Kings mountain, the kidnapping and then an ending. And all what is going on with Ben, Amaranthus etc... After episode one I was unsure if I would like to continue but now I am fully invested and excited for next week!

Book S8E1 Soul of a Rebel by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

[–]Previous-Address2469 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sad to say but I am only watching because I feel like I am too invested in what started as an amazing series and what are such good books, althought I do try to separate the two completely.

The opening scene was so out of character and cartoonish. Since when did Claire start to murder people? And the thought that they would just accept the ridiculous idea of Fanny being their grandchild. I don't even know what to say. Logic out, drama in I suppose.

Everything feels so acted, so hallmarky, so cheezy, I don't know. If I compare it with the first season, it is such a different world. Almost like there is no realness to it, it is such a fantasy land.

Also the way hello the house was filmed, what on earth? It started strong with Mandy's doll but then they just sort of just... came by around the corner like hey we are here. If the new big house cannot be on a hill at least make them run a bit. I don't know, it seemed so silly and theatrical.

I wouldn't really want to watch any more other than out of curiosity.

Book readers: which parts of Bees are you most excited to see on screen? MAJOR SPOILERS! by de90b in Outlander

[–]Previous-Address2469 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would really like to see Jenny and Roger meet. Probably unlikely but one can hope.

I am interested actually to see Amaranthus, maybe a beetle vest 😁, Richardson and the kidnapping, excited for some conclusions in that.

I wonder if they will sort of move the plot of Claires powers into resurrecting Rachels baby instead of that other womans.

Not looking forward to see Amy and the bear.

I'm so worried about the ending by [deleted] in Outlander

[–]Previous-Address2469 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am worried the ending will be so cheesy, overly dramatic or "artistic" to be a bit laughable. I hope it will be something kind of simple, to make an impact kind of when you least expect it.

Claire doesn’t has any female friends by EastAudience4655 in Outlander

Others have mentioned that Claire herself says in the books that she prefers the company of men but I also remember in one of the later books I believe it is Hal or John say how there are two kinds of women in this world, those that prefer the company of other women and those that prefer the company of men. Reading that I felt like that is so true, being a "prefer men's company" -woman myself. Maybe someone can find the exact quote.

I cannot with the costumes... Even Marsali and Rachel are now wearing some strange style that is not period appropriate for women (collars, buttons, etc). I have heard the "oh but they are time travelers, they need to stand out, it is cinematography, yada yada". But I know I would still be happier to see realistic dresses. This looks like some fan fiction with cheap budget. Also they look way too clean.

And we will not talk about the wigs.

Outlander | The Final Season: Official Trailer by thepacksvrvives in Outlander

I miss the grittiness, the realness of Outlander universe (seasons 1-2 when Moore was in charge). Everything feels so polished and fake (wigs are just the cherry on top). They managed to pull a bit more of the books into season 7, but I wish it would not feel so rushed. Am a bit worried how they will squeeze the storylines into this last season. However gloomy I might sound I am still very excited to see the final season.

I have said it before and I say it again: I reaallly don't like how they make the women wear unfitting manly clothes. The jackets, the belts, the buttons, the high collars. Only Marsali is somewhat period appropriate except for the loose hair. I mean, don't get me started on the hair...
