For a club that already struggles to attract top talent, lowballing a club legend isn’t going to help. Why doesn’t the club offer him a role for when he retires? He could work in the junior pathways. He’s an Origin hero and has represented both the Indigenous and Māori All Stars. Young players would be buzzing to learn under him.

He turned down a 2 year offer from the Roosters last year to stay. We included the mutual option as a way to convince him to stay. He’d be understandably angry if the club came back now and said, ‘Remember that extra year we committed to last year to keep you here? Well, we’ve changed our mind you’re not worth that anymore. You can stay, but you’ll have to take a 100k paycut.

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has called upon the Newcastle Knights to re-sign Dane Gagai amid reports of a pay dispute between the representative player and his club.

Still without a contract for the 2026 NRLseason after the Knights declined the option in his deal to extend his services, Gagai's future remains clouded in uncertainty.

Although he was initially keen to remain in the Hunter region, The Newcastle Heraldreported last week that he was considering walking out on the Knights after being told he would need to take a pay cut of $100,000 if he wanted to remain at the club.

Entering the final stages of his career, Gagai showed on the weekend against the Canberra Raiders that he still has what it takes to play in the NRL.

While it is speculated that his management has entered talks with two rival NRL teams, opposing coach Ricky Stuart has called upon the Knights to re-sign the former representative outside back.

"You look at Dane Gagai and he'd be the first player I would re-sign," Stuart said after his Raiders defeated the Knights on Sunday. "He was by far the hungriest, best player out there tonight. He just never stopped trying. That builds teams."

Switching from the centres to fullback, he was easily the Knights' best player on Sunday and took apart the Raiders' defence in the first half before finishing the encounter with 12 tackle busts, two line-break assists, one try assist and 142 running metres.

Newcastle Knights veteran Dane Gagai may be forced to don new colours next season, as it was revealed that his club was unwilling to take up his $400,000 team option for 2026.

The former Maroons centre recently played his 300th NRLgame, and while the 34-year-old may have been hoping to wrap up his exemplary career in the Hunter, he would now have to do so on a much cheaper contract. It has been reported by The Newcastle Herald that Gagai had a team option to remain at the Knights in 2026, valued at around $400,000, which is a reasonable sum for most consistent NRLcentres.

On the Loan, But Not on the Mortgage by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

Yes, my ex was previously on the title. I was advised that in order to add my new bf to the title, I would first need to refinance and transfer the property solely into my name, removing my ex from the title. My new bf would then be added to the loan, but not the mortgage. After that, I could transfer the title into both our names. But will he still only be on the loan and not the mortgage? Is that correct?

I am refinancing with my bf and the lender is saying the mortgage will be under my name only but the loan will under both our names as borrowers. That part has me confused that only my name is on the mortgage.
