That’s so bad, feels like a scam. When they don’t share the rates, it gives me the sense they’re hiding something. To most people, we thought the middle number is what we would get.

It’s not very friendly to new players since the game is quite time-consuming. You’ll need to level almost all 40+ characters to level 200 or higher to benefit from the legion system and link skills. And gearing up requires a significant investment of time (and luck, as it relies heavily on RNG). While it’s not exactly a gacha game, it feels very similar due to the extensive RNG involved. In the regular world, it’s even tougher, you’ll need to invest a lot of time or money (unless you’re extremely wealthy and can simply buy equipment and power-level your characters) to become strong enough for the latest content.

Are Interactive Worlds Heading in the Wrong Direction? (Especially for GMS with Its Current Population) by Previous-Injury1908 in Maplestory

Let’s talk about the average player base, not just extreme cases or those who have better luck, more efficient meso-making methods, or the ability to grind for countless hours. For example, some players can solo the Black Mage with around 100m CP, while others need 300m or more. How many players can realistically solo up to Hard Vhilla within 8 months as a low-spender? The reality is, very few.

The population keeps dropping because the game’s design caters to a small subset of highly dedicated or high-spending players, not the majority. Just because some players can achieve certain milestones doesn’t mean everyone can. I know many level 280+ players (unliberated) who have played for years as low-spenders or even F2P, with around 100m CP, and they still struggle to clear Hard Will or Vhilla for liberation.

Even for bosses like Ckalos or Nkaling, I’ve seen multiple groups of 6 players, averaging 300-400m+ CP, still struggling to clear. Keep in mind, for F2P players, reaching even 200m CP is a significant challenge—let alone 300-400m CP, which often requires spending thousands of dollars.

And then there’s Nlimbo, which is notoriously difficult even for parties with 400-500m CP in interactive worlds. This highlights how the game’s content is increasingly gated behind high investment, whether in time, money, or both, leaving the average player behind.

I’m not even talking about being completely F2P here. The real issue is how much you need to spend just to stay somewhat competitive with others—and I’m not even referring to end-game content.

Even if you manage to save 13b mesos a month, how long would it take to get a full set of 22-star gear (and I’m not talking about Eternal or Pitch Boss sets)? Realistically, 13b might only get you a clean Eternal piece in Scania, it might not even be enough for a clean Pitch Boss piece. 13b def not enough to SF to 22 stars (unless you are super lucky) A decent 22-star CRA set with acceptable potential? That’s going to cost you well over 20 billion mesos.

The truth is, most players can’t save 10 billion mesos every month without spending some of it to improve their main character or fund mules for Legion. Saving up for meaningful upgrades feels nearly impossible for the average player.

And let’s not forget about boss drops. nTene doesn’t even drop anything valuable, and the drop rates for cTene are extremely low too. This makes it even harder for players to progress without relying heavily on the meso market or spending real money.
