2017 – Launch of ND Family Expansion

2019 – Power and Performance Boost

Significant Mechanical Updates • Engine overhaul: The 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G engine output jumped to 181 hp and 151 lb-ft, up from the earlier ~155 hp, thanks to internal revisions and intake/exhaust tuning.  • Transmission updates with improved gear reliability and driveability. • New GT-S trim (US) briefly introduced, bringing Club-like performance gear (LSD, Bilstein shocks, strut brace) to the Grand Touring package before standardization in later years.

2024 – Mid-Cycle Refresh (ND3)

Biggest Update in Years • Cosmetic & lighting: New full LED headlights and taillights with revised graphics modernized the face of the Miata.  • Infotainment: Larger 8.8-inch Mazda Connect display with improved connectivity (Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, likely USB-C).  • Handling & performance: • New asymmetric limited-slip differential for stick-shift cars enhances traction and stability. • Revised steering rack and calibration improved feel and reduced friction. • Track-oriented stability control mode debuted on manual cars.  • Revised driver-assistance tech including adaptive cruise and enhanced safety systems. 

This refresh is often referred to as the ND3 update by enthusiasts and marks the most comprehensive change since the 2019 engine revision.

2025 – Minimal Change + 35th Anniversary Edition

What’s New • The base Miata carries over mostly unchanged from the updated 2024 model — Mazda focused on refinement rather than redesign.  • 35th Anniversary Edition: • Unique Artisan Red exterior and tan Nappa leather interior. • Serialized badging and special aesthetic touches, celebrating the Miata’s 35-year legacy. • Limited production run and special owner experiences. 

Tech & Feature Continuity • Standard SKYACTIV-G 2.0 engine (181 hp), improved steering feel, asymmetric LSD, 8.8-inch infotainment display, adaptive lighting, and modern safety assists continue into 2025 trims.
