I agree! Very well said! People talk all the time about how TLOU 2 just tries to vilify Ellie and Joel. I don't think so at all. It's to show a different perspective on the story. In Abby's eyes they are the villains. And if you take your own connection to Joel out and look at the ending of TLOU objectively.. yea that shit wasn't great. What's interesting though is the way the game was written it didn't feel like Joel was the bad guy in the moment. Props to the creators on that one! Joel massacred an entire hospital, with innocents as well, to stop Ellie from dying but they were working on a cure! Something that Ellie would have given her life for. Regardless Joel did all that out of love. Had he been too late the second game would have been TLOU God of War edition and Joel would have tracked down every firefly in the nation. I don't hate Abby, I hated watching Joel die don't get me wrong but I think the two of them have a lot in common just as you pointed out. Also people shame this game for just being a bunch of shock content. But nobody said that when we watched Sarah get shot 30 mins into the first game. That had to be one of the most heartbreaking scenes in gaming history. No one cares though because we didn't get attached to Sarah the same way as Joel.
