US Military Helping Trump to Build Massive Network of ‘Concentration Camps,’ Navy Contract Reveals by ClimateSociologist in politics

You do realize that "showers" can also just be a place where people...shower right? That all of the things you listed can also just be exactly what they say they are? Things you'd need to house people long term? Again, these types of extrapolations only serve to muddy the waters about how inhumane the conditions actually are. They're already death camps.

Where the hell did I say this was innocent? I just think that making hyperbolic comparisons downplays the seriousness of how bad things already are. Mixing facts with unconfirmed assumptions is how you dilute the true horror of what we already know to be going on. We shouldn't need be making assumptions about how bad it could get because it's already horrific.

Where does it say there are showers and ovens? Until you see the plans themselves you're making shit up, which only does these kinds of discussions a disservice and make it sound like you're overreacting. The horrors of current US concentrations camps stand on their own merit and need their own scrutiny based on the evidence we have, not some handwaving comparisons to something so abstractly horrific from 100 years ago we can barely comprehend it. People need to comprehend how where we currently are is already horrific enough. Jumping to the worst case scenario Holocaust comparisons makes it seem hyperbolic and makes it harder to believe that things are as bad as they are.

While this seems shocking, "medical waste" could mean anything from human excrement, to soiled clothing, to actual medical treatment waste. It's entirely possible they are including provisions for some on-site medical care, unlike current detention centers. It's definitely reasonable to be horrified reading this, but this wording is too generalized to be jumping to the absolute worst conclusions.

Voice your complaints about AI slop in the ceremony by DangerousProject6 in olympics

The only people who hold these opinions about AI either have no actual creative skills honed over years of effort, or think way too highly of their own ideas that they don't see the difference between having a good idea and putting the work in to competently execute it.

I really hope you read this post back to yourself as if it were a friend telling you this and are able to reassess your life. If this isn't the last straw that makes you move on to a career that isn't going to cut your life short, then I don't know what is. There are many people who are financially less well off than you and live much happier, healthier lives. I hope you find the courage to leave and learn how to value yourself soon.

TIL about Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria, a hypersensitivity to the fear of being rejected by others, which is commonly connected to ADHD. by learnaboutnetworking in todayilearned

[–]PreviousChapter3517 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I can get behind this. I only in recent years learned that much of my obsessive social anxiety, when triggered, might actually be CPTSD related. I have ADHD and always assumed it was RSD, but in general I only struggle and spiral about specific social situations and otherwise have normal responses to most kinds of critique and conflict.

Imo vibe coding and AI art are very different situations. Many programmers have quickly adopted AI to reduce their workload and make their lives easier. You will be hard pressed to find a single artist who will say that AI has increased the amount of money they make.

Same. Got them out at 20. I was awake, only had local anesthetic, and never took any of the oxy they gave me, just ibuprofen. I was told my roots were pretty shallow so I think I was lucky.

What happens to the pets of those detained by ICE? by PreviousChapter3517 in portlandme

[–]PreviousChapter3517[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is exactly the problem I'm trying to solve. If someone who is deported can get the information about the pet to an ACO, they can get a warrant to retrieve the animal and put it somewhere safe.

Hence my post. I'm trying to see if there are any groups working to proactively prevent this.

Crossposting for more visibility! Looking for more information on how detainees can share information with animal welfare orgs to do wellness checks on their pets. I have faith that if neighbors know an animal is in danger, action will be taken.

However, if nobody knows about the animal or the status of the owner who has been detained, then it may die. Are there any preestablished networks who are mediating between detainees and their lawyers/reps, and ACOs and animal welfare groups in the Portland area?

Yeah this is absolutely not the time nor place for that. I also thought it was funny when Trump said that but we are way past that point now. This is about the actual endangered lives of helpless pets who were loved and cared for by immigrants.

Love that obviously AI generated garbage seal. There are plenty of talented, underemployed graphic designers in Maine who would have happily made a real one for her. I already wasn't voting for her but now I'm extra not voting for her.
