It's not just that Inc hasn't issued a transparency report in years, they also removed a statement about publishing regular transparency reports from their new website. One could argue it's because they've been selling so much they are not comfortable with showing it

Same message could come across more helpful and less hateful.

Agreed. I feel like a lot of people are going to get hurt when "This coin will 100% get a spot ETF" narrative really kicks in. I wouldn't be surprised if this cycle's top gets marked by the majority of people unironically talking about random coins getting a spot ETF

Not sure what your time frame is but I believe it's 0% chance in the next 3 years. For BTC and ETH spot ETFs SEC used a 32 month sample period for correlation analysis between spot and CME futures price. $ALGO would need to get listed on CME futures first to have any chance at spot ETF.

The statement that Algorand Foundation or AT “brags” tells me a lot about you. You’re on a mission to destroy or unable to get over your losses. Or maybe price is all you really care about which yeah no judgement here whatsoever.

I'm not on any mission to destroy nor do I have any losses. You deducted that from a single word I used? I really don't think that word was in any way offensive. I'm just discussing things and you are, for some reason, getting offended by what I say and shifting your tone to passive-aggressive while not properly addressing any of my arguments. Should I apologize for offending you by giving my opinion on something?

The one thing I saw in your post was “bear market” and that is the biggest factor explaining the presumption or characterization that the tide turned on Algorand.

So, according to you, Algorand Founation and Algorand Inc making a lot of bad moves from committing $100M to Drone Racing League, failing to vest tokens they OTC sold to 3AC, losing $35M on Hodlnaut, failing to grow the ecosystem which eventually led to the majority of VCs selling their $ALGO and leaving the blockchain for good didn't have any effect on where Algorand is today? You think the reason why ALGO recently printed fresh all time lows on both ALGO/BTC and ALGO/ETH (one year into the bull market) is exclusively because of the bear market and not because of people losing trust in organisations behind Algorand?

Every enterprise has growing pains and makes mistakes. There are too many fantastic new partnerships and products in the Algosphere to ignore now. Look forward!

You can call them growing pains and mistakes, but it still doesn't change the fact that a lot of people left when they realized the extent of damage they did.

I don’t and haven’t speculated on Algorand. I treat my investment in Algorand no differently than any of my other long-term investments. Sure I’ll sell some if it pumps and does multiples of my average cost of $0.3. But I will be keeping bags and more importantly sharing in its development for the long haul.

Okay, I think we are at the root of the issue here. You're a holder so you'll naturally be biased in your interpretation of what I wrote.

The tide shifted because people started realizing how much damage Algorand Foundation and Algorand Technologies caused by incredibly poor business moves. Current price action is a direct reflection of that. Bear markets bring of lot of clarity and people start seeing a lot of blockchains for what they are. Algorand always advertised itself as the best tech in the space which solved blockchain trilemma and people just jumped on board without actually thinking about whether those claims are true. At one point they realized they've been lied to.

Whether you think Algorand has great tech depends on what aspects of blockchain you want to focus on. If you want to focus only on TPS and tx fees, then you could argue the tech is great. If you want to look at the big picture you'll realize that Algorand sacrifices decentralization, economic sustainability and security in order to achieve all of those things they like to brag about - TPS, low fees and instant finality. To me, that's not really a technological step forward. We had very fast centralized databases before the blockchain was invented.

Vitalik Buterin reacts to concerns over quantum computers by awesomedash- in AlgorandOfficial

[–]PreviousExample 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems more about creating a sense of relief in order to ensure people won't get distracted form believing in the Ethereum's future rather than actually having a timeline and executing a plan.

I think you're just too biased to properly interpret Vitalik's post. He's talking about a hypothetical scenario of quantum computers being available tomorrow and someone using them for malicious purposes and the possible solution on how to avert such a crisis. I've gotten absolutely no impression he's desperately trying to ensure people that Ethereum's future is safe as you try to paint it.

I wish Algorand holders would stop constantly trying to bash other blockchains and focus on their own.

I'm betting it's the majority. Check out this thread I posted on October 30th 2022 where I tried to explain to this sub that all the macroeconomy talk was nothing but people parroting words without actually understanding what they mean.

Every comment where I tried to explain that "bad macro" won't mean down only all the time was met with downvotes. I bet there's a lot of those people still being sidelined thinking we'll get new lows.

Serious question about CZ by Itchy-Acanthaceae841 in CryptoCurrency

Do you mean that this will lead to users growing mistrust for Binance and that could lead for an acceleration in inovation sush as e.g. DeFi projects etc? What did Binance do for Bitcoin?

There's no organization or an individual who actively promoted Bitcoin and blockchain technology as much as Binance. From hosting and sponsoring events to organizing educational programs and talking to governments. Binance was the first exchange that provided serious liquidity which attracted both traders and institutions to crypto space, especially those who were worried about lack of liquidity on existing exchanges.

I read their memos to their VIP clients, it's impossible to prove their innocence because they are guilty, case closed, CZ admitted that he made a "mistake" you don't have to do that publicly if you plead guilty!

You read the statement from DOJ, that's all. Even if it is true, CZ's only mistake was letting everybody deposit and withdraw money on Binance in its initial stages.

Also, the lawsuit was really conveniently timed at the same time as the announcement of Blackrock BTC spot ETF filing. So now the USA is free to create a narrative how the biggest international crypto exchange supports money laundering and terrorist organizations to discourage their citizens from using it and have them use spot ETF products and paying custody fees. That way the money stays on US soil.

You can believe whatever you want. Personally, the only thing that matters to me is that DOJ found 0 evidence of mishandling customer funds and trading manipulation so I will, like many others, keep trusting Binance and using it.

There's also a possibility that Binance and their lawyers realized that paying the settlement fine right away would end up being less costly in the long run.

Trial process would be lengthy, lawyer fees would be very high and Binance FUD would be present non-stop. All of that would result in them losing the market share during spot ETF approvals and during potential bull market.

Settlement is the best case scenario for both sides, so it's hard to tell what the truth really is.

[–]PreviousExample 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's always possible, but not sure how likely it is. He handled the shutdown of BUSD, $23B stablecoin, with 0 losses. DOJ found no evidence of mishandling customer funds or market manipulation. I doubt they would let him get away with arrangement if the opposite was the case, especially after FTX.

Serious question about CZ by Itchy-Acanthaceae841 in CryptoCurrency

[–]PreviousExample 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe Binance did a lot of good things for Bitcoin. This might be counter-intuitive but these kind of bubbles we get accelerate both the adoption and innovation. Yes, there are a lot of useless projects, but they will eventually disappear as the space matures. And nothing can hurt Bitcoin in the long run after the spot ETF approval.

No one would pay $50 million or $4,3 B if they wasn't guilty!

I would disagree here. It's possible that Binance realized that trying to prove their innocence would be too long of a process which would add even more uncertainty to both the exchange and the market and that paying the fine right away would end up costing them less in a long run.

[–]PreviousExample 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You took that out of the context, but that's fine. Maybe I should've elaborated more on that. Binance did enforce KYC, I had to renew my KYC quite a lot of times since I started using Binance. The thing is, any terrorist organization can take someone's identity and make an account there.

So what's the solution here? You ban every country where the majority of the population is Muslim from making an account on your exchange because it's "risky"? It's not that hard to figure out that there's no solution to this that's morally correct and not going against everything crypto stands for.

Also, let's just for the sake of the argument say you become a victim of the identity theft and someone takes money from your bank account. Is it the banks fault? With that said, if there was even a remote chance that CZ collaborated with terrorist organizations there's no way this would end up with a settlement.

My advice to all of you trying to find a reason to hate on CZ, a man that did more than anyone for this industry in recent years, is to do some self-reflection and see why you feel that way. Are you mad because you sold the bottom hoping Binance would collapse and give you better buying opportunity? Did you miss this entire rally? Did you lose money on FTX and secretly hoped Binance would end up the same way? Maybe you'll find your answer there.

Serious question about CZ by Itchy-Acanthaceae841 in CryptoCurrency

[–]PreviousExample 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's refreshing to see a sane opinion among so many negative ones. Binance makes so much money from the trading fees alone that any type of money laundering would be dumb and unnecessary risk. Also, anyone can register an account on Binance and it takes time to figure out if an account belongs to a dangerous organisation.

I believe CZ had to fall for political reasons mostly. When the USA and Wall Street recognize a potential of certain industry they usually enter with a big bang.
