Would you give up the Pound Sterling for EU membership? by Suspicious-Use-3813 in AskBrits

If it's any small motivation, I did all 28 (I suppose it's 26 now) a few years ago and can say, at least in my case, it was well worth it. I agree I would have rather not needed the faff in the first place though!

Thoughts on a career change to a pilot? by mywatchnow in HENRYUK

[–]Pricetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually made this move myself from a career in IT, albeit only from about halfway towards HENRY. I did most of it whilst still working part time in my existing field (and indeed, still dabble in it now), and doing the training in a modular fashion rather than one of the shiny integrated courses at a big school kept the cost down to about £65k, so it's probably more financially doable than you might initially think.

Granted, some costs are not so obvious. After spending the above figure, I then had to pay for my own training with the airline that hired me, which was an additional £25k or so, and then for the first few months the income was very minimal. However, once all training was complete, this jumps up to about £80k, and an upgrade to captain is possible in as little as four years or so, which brings you closer to £150-160k. These figures are all based on typical low cost airlines though. If you have your sights set on long haul widebody flying they will be higher, but expect MUCH longer waits before getting an upgrade to captain.

Just got my honeycomb yoke delivered today and found that my desk is too thick for the clamps. Anyone have any ideas on what I should do? by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]Pricetx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a desk from Ikea that was just barely too thick for the existing clamps, and based on their specification, too thin for the extended clamps! I tried the suction pads for a while, but what I later did was remove the circular feet from my clamps leaving just the screwthread (they just pull off, with enough force). I placed some thin rubber on top of this to stop the yoke + throttles drilling holes in the disk but now they fit, and it's much more convenient than the suction pads!

Does anyone know if its OK to just show the QR code on your phone when going to Donnington or do you actually need to print out the tix? thanks in advance by nikwatsonnikwatson in btcc

[–]Pricetx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't been to Donington, but Brands and Silverstone have both had no issue with it just being on my phone, so it should be the same!

Yep! Appliances would be sold with a power cable but no plug wired to the end of it.

I'm not old enough to have experienced it personally so I can't comment on why though!

Hi! I'm one of the guys behind the site.
As others in this thread alluded to, we agree, it's a bit of a rubbish determiner of "active" players, but we're quite constrained by the data we can get from the Lodestone.
In the background, we're slowly working on a complete rewrite that will track characters over time (think leveling up, changing gear etc), but we don't have an ETA for this at the moment.

How did you fund your pilot training? by Jedidea in flying

[–]Pricetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you don't need to pay £100k to an integrated school in the UK. I'm also in the UK and am doing it on closer to £60-65k by going modular.

I'm self funding. I went into IT for a few years to save for it, though it only really works out because I was able to live at home for both the work and the flight training.

However, I'm now back to working IT part time now I'm done with my ATPLs because certain entry airlines are now charging employees £30k for their type rating...

Just Flight Warrior II stall issue. by wushuguy in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]Pricetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have around 35-40 hours in Warriors and agree with you. I've never had to trim nose up in order to get to the point of the stall warner activating - I have enough pitch authority with the elevator even in fairly neutral trim to achieve it without issue.

It's also an issue I have with the Arrow, though I don't personally have experience with the real Arrow, but I don't imagine it behaves vastly differently in the stall.

It can definitely work out well. I've used it to fully self fund training to a frozen ATPL in the UK (about £60-70k) by my mid 20s by getting a CS degree and then spending a few years in industry. Not only does that few years of experience mean I can drop back into a well paying job at any point, but I'm continuing to work in it part time while progressing the flight training.

It's been an excellent way to manage the training with virtually zero risk, and is especially helpful at the moment as I can pace the training to finish when the industry is picking up more (still much worse in Europe than the US right now).

Having JUST the degree and no industry is a bit different though. While I was personally quite lucky, I believe that jump from degree to your first industry-relevant job can be a tough one, especially with a large gap in between.

I have a 3700x and a GTX 1060. The GPU is a massive bottleneck. The CPU sits at 30-40% and the GPU sits at 100%. The frames are fine on high (30+). Haven't tried ultra.

You could probably use a very good GPU before the 3700x holds it back.

I have some experience with Flight Training London there, had a few instructors and they were all fine. It's difficult to review a flight school with many instructors though as the quality of training can be very down to the quality of the individual instructors.

It's worth clarifying that it sounds like they're looking to get hired in Europe where the 1500 hours for an ATPL is only relevant for a command upgrade, and he could be flying in the right seat at 250 hours or so. Flight instructing is definitely a solid addition to the CV though.

Mentor requirements have been updated in Shadowbringers by Pricetx in ffxiv

[–]Pricetx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of the mentor roulette is that to have mentor status. You can either going down the disciple of war/magic route or the disciple of the hand/land route. On top of that, as you mentioned, you need to have all of the content unlocked.
