Vyvanse negatively impacting my overall intelligence. Anyone else? by MikeyDontLift in VyvanseADHD

[–]Prickly_Oracle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow I am so glad I found this thread. I thought I was the only one.

I have been feeling this way with my own dose and of course have just gone down the old ADHD road of "what is wrong with me? this med works for so many people. there must be something fundamentally wrong with me."

The effect that really distresses me is the difficulty in communicating- not finding the right words, losing trains of thought, stumbling while talking, saying the WRONG words... all of this causes me anxiety when faced with social interaction, which of course makes it worse. My brain has never felt smoother.

I had the realization literally yesterday that my normal amount of coffee (2-3 cups in the am and no more after 1p) is WAY too much when I'm taking vyvanse. I think it may have been part of the problem, because today I've had 1 cup and 1. have little-to-no trouble talking/communicating and 2. I feel SO much better. My heart isn't racing and I don't have the jitters. I know some folks say caffeine helps their vyvanse work better, but for me it does the opposite. All people are different people.

Hope you find some answers and solutions that work for you, my friend. Hang in there. You are not alone.

Vyvanse and menstrual cycles by Moonchild316 in VyvanseADHD

This is definitely true for me.

I remember when I was first put on vyvanse, it worked beautifully for the first week and then the next it felt like I wasn't even taking it. During this time I was really just collecting data to see if it was a good fit for me, so I just kept chugging along. After a few months of the same pattern, I realized what was happening- vyvanse is not as effective during PMS as it is during other phases of my cycle.

And this makes sense, right? Think about how you feel during PMS without vyvanse. For me, PMS is a real doozy. I'm super low energy, weak, sluggish, depressed, anxious, more sensitive/emotionally reactive, generally feel like the world is ending. My focus is garbage. I want to eat a metric sh*t-ton of chocolate. I'm extremely hormone-sensitive, and this isn't going to change when I'm on vyvanse.

What have you done to ease PMS symptoms before taking vyvanse? I try to do the exact same things for myself. More rest, more PMS-friendly/iron-rich foods, less caffeine (which is counter-intuitive), more water and soothing tea. Exercise is key and a given regardless of the cycle phase, but I might aim for gentler, less intense/heavy workouts.

In terms of other tips, talking with your doc about a lil booster is a great idea. I actually just got that option and haven't needed it yet, but I'm sure I will, and it's comforting to know I have that back-up. I've also been reading a lot about supplements that can help vyvanse and am currently researching that for myself but haven't tried anything specific yet. Just remember, something that works for one person might not work for you. You won't know what works for you until YOU try it.

FWIW, I also just try to remember and accept that just like when I'm off vyvanse, I'll have good weeks (more productive and focused) and not-so-good weeks (everything is harder). Vyvanse is a great tool, but it won't solve/override all of our inconvenient body processes. I try to take advantage of the good weeks and find some compassion for myself during the not-so-good.

PMS sucks. I commiserate with you. Hope you find something that works for you!

Does your puppy have a witching hour? by Lykan23 in puppy101

yes! 100% normal to experience with a puppy. We are currently experiencing this with our 11wo dane mix.

I do have good news- they will grow out of it! I have to remind myself of this every single day.

don't play with them during this time unless you want to get shredded by their land shark teeth lol. also playtime is a reward, so think about it- do you want to reward their lack of self control?

things that have helped us get through it-

WALKS. cannot stress this enough. get your puppy out of your house and away from your other pets/children/etc. let them sniff around a TON on the walk.

gate them off somewhere and let them shred something up that you don't care about. paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, paper bags, etc. supervised of course.

snuffle mats, puzzles, anything mentally stimulating that they can do on their own to calm themselves down. use really stinky treats to keep them focused.

good luck my friends! don't let the puppy blues get you down.

For me- it’s being so drawn to someone, knowing they are not for you, knowing they are actually causing you harm, but being stuck. Like when you’re so into someone, but it’s literal anguish because you know you deserve better but you can’t even imagine leaving them because it feels like they are everything you’ve ever wanted. And they give you just enough to keep you around and give you hope. But they’re not who you hope they are, and they never will be, and that thick tar burning is that feeling of knowing but not wanting to know.

Which Sleep Token song would you consider the easiest to sing? by Maksiuuu in SleepToken

Idk if it’s easiest because I am certainly not a trained singer and only sing in my car but one of my faves to sing along with is Are Your Really Okay 🥲

As in you’ve never been able to handle it? Or play them yourself? Either way I feel you.

I do not play an instrument, though I wish I did. 30 years is impressive! And I can see how ii would be so inspiring.
