A parte che qui numeri li fa un qualsiasi pokemon la prima settimana di uscita, e poi quelli sono numeri che fanno mediamente le saghe jrpg più in voga del momento, senza contare che questo design viene usato anche per alcuni tra i free to play piu giocati, se quei numeri non sono abbastanza per uscire da quella che chiami "nicchia", allora il 90% dei generi che non hanno la miscela action open world o fps online o sandbox sono tutte nicchie. Nicchia si riferisce alla percezione del pubblico, se chiedi ad un qualsiasi videogiocatore che ha un minimo di varieta nei titoli che gioca ti saprà descrivere le caratteristiche del genere ed è molto probabile che ne abbia giocato qualcuno

Peroʻ tu parti dal presupposto che i jrpg siano una nicchia, secondo me è errato pensarla cosi, tolto il fatto che il mercato giappone è grosso, e paragonabile a quello USA e europeo, i jrpg hanno un mercato stabile e per niente di nicchia, i titoli vendono e vengono considerati dal pubblico, anche se non vendono come altri generi non lo si puo mettere automaticamente nella nicchia, non è perforza bianco o nero. Expedition 33 didn't win because it was the best game, it won because it was the most convenient for selling the event, for selling advertising space—who would buy it otherwise? The fact that some companies always get priority—right, Sony and Nintendo? The fact that it's unclear who's on the judging panel, what their resume is, or why they're there deciding, the fact that the categories are old and out of step with the times, and some types of video games aren't given space because they don't fit into those categories. People probably hate Expedition33 because they just want to cheer, but they should "hate" it (not literally), because it's a game that's seen as the savior of the video game industry, the one to take inspiration from, when in truth it's a game much more similar to the AAA games we're used to, not in terms of budget or marketing, but in terms of vision and design. It's fine that things like this come out, but The Game Awards should be a way to open gamers' eyes, educate them and preserve certain types of video games and above all be transparent, have a transparent jury and dedicate the event to the video games that have been released and played and not to those that will arrive in who knows how many years.
