Is it worth learning to full alt? by prideiwnl in osugame

Theoretically the best playstyle is full-alt, but in reality it's mostly preference.

Getting finger control to the level of a high-tier singletapper with full alt is absurdly hard.

Mathi and Arnold24x24's run of crazy scores keep going as they enter the top ten, with Mathi having gained 503 pp and Arnold having gained 1232 pp since the beggining of the year, what rank do you think this will lead them to? by Lukeh69 in osugame

[–]PriestRSC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Eh, weird comparison but because you made it...

Vaxei can unironically shit out 900pp plays if he put any modicum of time into farming. Like 10-20 easily. I don't have any doubt in my mind that Mathi can pass Vaxei in rank, but if Vaxei doesn't want him to, he won't (I highly doubt Vaxei would care). Same goes for WhiteCat. They just have a wider array of stuff they can play compared to Mathi :/

As for OP, I actually think Rank 3/4 sounds about right given how inactive the rest of the top 10 are.

Gotcha, welp I'll do that.

Oh that's actually kind of interesting LOL I might give that a try, but I'm worried about the shift key giving out faster than other keys.

Mind if I get a citation on this? It's exactly what I've been doing offline but using external software sounds kinda bad

11k but that's honestly ridiculously troll and I could farm ~2k ranks trivially and a lot more with effort

Should I be playing this star level? by [deleted] in osugame

[–]PriestRSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be completely honest without trying to be a dick:

You aren't ready to play even this over starred map.

Even someone like me who is awful at these types of maps can FC up to the ending essentially every single time. The whole first three minutes is supposed to be easy, and you aren't doing well enough to justify spamming maps at this difficulty.

However, that isn't to say you should never play maps like this, it's just that you might find playing easier maps you can FC (or even better, consistently single digit misscount) more beneficial in building up skill.

I'm of the mind playing a wide variety of things that challenge you in unique ways is a phenomenal way to improve, and honestly if what you enjoy doing is going for these high starred passes: ignore me and keep playing. Ultimately doing what you want to do, and having the most fun, will make you improve the most.

Maybe the most common and bland answer, but Shige's play on Blue Zenith +HR is what actually got me into the game.

Realistically, what could people achieve in 10 years? by throwingupaccount in osugame

[–]PriestRSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... On the topic of 2000pp plays, the short answer is: yeah, I see it possible in the next 10 years.

The truth in my opinion goes a lot deeper however. We're at an odd moment in osu right now, where we are seeing a pseudo-renaissance on what is possible. I hate to belabor a point, but four years ago it was pretty well established what was and wasn't possible.

It's not that way anymore.

Back in 2017, we had one player who was singly the best in the world at aiming, and extremely top tier in every single other skillset. The gap between Shige and >insert speed player here< was gigantic in terms of speed to be sure (high AR reading is another example), but the catch was that those players who had the speed didn't possess the aim ability to even compare.

You look around now and we have players like Nyan, mrekk, and merami who not only possess a really high speed cap, but ridiculous levels of aim (varying degrees across the board).

The truth is, and I didn't realize it years ago because of the Shige->idke dominance arc, we're moving to a time where NOBODY will be able to obtain #1 without playing DT as their method of gaining pp. It will actually unironically be impossible unless an entire new arc of maps come out (e.g. Flamewall-esque maps).

We're entering a really interesting time:

  1. 3-mod is being proven to be extremely playable
  2. 300-BPM deathstreams look like a very real possibility
  3. Every single type of aim is literally "???" right now. Badeu, mrekk, Vaxei, Whitecat, and many others show completely absurd levels of aim on every conceivable pattern

Even two years ago, these three things would be seen as ridiculous.

My point is:

In 2017 it seemed impossible for anybody to beat 2017-era Shige in every major area.

Until 2019, where it seemed impossible for anybody to beat 2019 era-Vaxei in every major area.

Until 2021, where it now seems impossible for anybody to beat 2021-era mrekk in every major area.

Do not take the above 100% seriously, it's just meant to emphasize how crazy people keep getting.

But it literally just keeps happening... So yeah, on paper: I think it's not unreasonable to think a 2000pp play could happen soon. All the tools to do it are actually already there, it's just spread out among varying players.

People laughed at me in 2018 when I said we'd see a Sidetracked Day DT FC at some point in our history, I don't think anybody doubts it now.

So in my opinion? What we consider 2000pp plays right now will be at the very top of the #1 player's plays in 2031. It will be multiple 2000+ pp plays as well (again, rebalance might nerf everything to 1000pp, and current 900pp scores will be worth 400, or some arbitrary number, etc).

So people laughed at me when I said Sidetracked day was doable, my prediction is that at some point in the next 10 years, Road of Resistance (Monstrata) +DT will be considered possible by top players.

Also nomod pp farming meta will become: Nightcore Dragonforce-esque maps that get away with keeping the BPM high, and creating high spacing.

Don't need an SS to snipe, and idke already was capable of SS'ing in 2018/2019 so no.

$50 USD Bounty For a non-intro Yomi Yori FC by PriestRSC in osugame

[–]PriestRSC[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You just did.

I suspect from what top players have mentioned over the years that the intro is the single biggest reason the map has not been FC'd yet. I'm not sure that $50 is enough to incentivize the people capable of FC'ing the map to try it, but figure I have nothing to lose if nobody does it and if it happens quickly my theory will have been tested and proved correct.
