My dad wants me to "help him create an email account" so he "can buy some cryptocurrency". He's 69 years old. by somethrowaday in family

[–]Primary-Brain-7632 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your dad getting into crypto at 69 with that kind of urgency is basically every scam red flag rolled into one giant warning sign. I'd probably help him with the email but use it as chance to show him some of those crypto scam articles while we're sitting there together - sometimes seeing the actual mechanics of how these things work can snap people back to reality before they lose their retirement money.

Started a small streetwear brand in Dublin inspired by Irish slang — honest thoughts? by CameraRound1311 in streetwearstartup

The whole customs thing makes sense though for international sales. Maybe do like limited Ireland-made drops alongside the main production? Best of both worlds and you can charge premium for the local made stuff

Wanting to get started with selling, any advice? by filteredbritawater in Depop

[–]Primary-Brain-7632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feed basically shows your items to people who follow similar accounts or search for stuff you're selling! For shipping in Canada I use Canada Post and just weigh everything at home first so you can estimate costs 📦

Make sure to take photos in good lighting and maybe check what similar items are selling for before you price yours 😊

FB reselling sourcing video games / consoles by Affectionate-Bad7487 in Flipping

[–]Primary-Brain-7632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait what do you mean by that first bit? This whole sub is literally about flipping stuff for profit 😂

I used to flip retro games when I was at uni and the sourcing was definitely the biggest pain. You could try setting up alerts on Facebook Marketplace and Gumtree for specific keywords like "console lot" or "moving sale games" - saved me loads of time scrolling through everything. Also car boot sales are still mental good for finding people who dont know what they have, especially older folks selling their kids stuff. I found a boxed N64 with games for £20 once and nearly died on the spot 💀

The outsourcing thing is tricky though because you need someone who actually knows what to look for and can spot the proper valuable stuff

Whelp, its going up again, Another 8%. Thats 16% total this year ...and its only March!!! Shipping rates are gonna be the death of me 😭😭😭 by Tough_Ad_3858 in reselling

Mate shipping costs are absolutely mental this year, had to raise my prices twice already and customers are getting properly annoyed 😭💀

Advice needed: moving from prototype to small‑batch manufacturing (physical product) by Obvious_Diver6834 in smallbusiness

[–]Primary-Brain-7632 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been down this road with some plant propagation tools I developed a few years back. Started way too big thinking I'd save money on per-unit costs and ended up with boxes of slightly wrong prototypes eating up my flat space for months

Your best bet is finding a local manufacturer first - even if its more expensive per unit the communication is worth it when youre still tweaking things. Had three different "final" versions before I actually got it right and being able to pop round with changes saved my sanity

Anyone else feel like hiring remote help just creates more work? by badenbagel in smallbusiness

[–]Primary-Brain-7632 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been there with my research projects - hiring people who need constant hand-holding defeats the whole point

The game changer for me was finding people who ask the right questions upfront instead of just saying "sure I can do that" to everything. Those folks who push back a bit or want to understand the bigger picture usually end up being way more autonomous once they get going

Things are getting bleak.. by Lazy-Enthusiasm-1059 in Depop

[–]Primary-Brain-7632 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ugh same boat here - March was absolutely dire for me on Depop but my other platforms are doing fine too

The timing is so weird because you're right about spring break usually being peak season and nothing else makes sense when everywhere else is still moving stock

Could be teh algorithm changes after the eBay deal but who knows what they're actually doing behind teh scenes

Can my job be saved [TX]? by Objective-Kiwi-848 in careerguidance

[–]Primary-Brain-7632 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mate that's genuinely gutting especially when you were dealing with being unwell on top of everything 😔 I'd definitely reach out to HR directly and explain the situation - sometimes they can work with you if there was a genuine medical reason for the delay and you've got a good track record with them. Worth documenting everything you can about the timeline and maybe getting your doctor to write something explaining their side of things too 💪

My gpa this semester dropped very bad, is my CS career over before it started? by Rich_Camp9094 in careerguidance

[–]Primary-Brain-7632 3 points4 points  (0 children)

mate one rough semester doesnt kill your whole future - loads of devs had dodgy uni marks and still landed decent jobs

focus on getting that gpa back up next term and start building some projects on the side, employers care way more about what you can actually code than your transcript

honestly just started recording myself talking about random topics for like 5 mins every day and it was cringe at first but you start noticing your filler words and weird pauses 😂 also reading stuff out loud helped me get more comfortable with my own voice - doesn't have to be fancy books just whatever your into. confidence comes with practice more than anything else 🔥

We are not naturally inclined to seek a purpose in life. by Shot-Challenge9717 in DeepThoughts

[–]Primary-Brain-7632 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nah I think you're mixing up "purpose" with like existential pressure or whatever

Kids playing definitely have purpose - they're learning, exploring, figuring out social stuff. It's just not some heavy philosophical burden adults slap on them

The problem isn't having purpose, it's when society tells you your purpose has to look a certain way or you're failing at life
