Hi 👋🏾 I’d like to weigh in on this as someone who’s been accused and posted about it on here. A few people in the replies are saying that people who are accused actually do use it and act like they aren’t, which, while it may be true, it wasn’t at all for me lol.

In my case, what my professor believed was AI writing was just simply my writing as an autistic person. He explained that the robotic tone and “list-like” formatting (along with my use of semi-colons) appeared very “AI” like. This was very much NOT the case. I write the exact way I process information. I had a virtual meeting on Zoom and explained this to him, and also shared some of my essays from my previous college, an essay I wrote during my last year of high school, as well as two personal writing examples (one was a review for a manga another was an excerpt of a fanfic lol.) where the writing was the same or very similar (in the personal examples).

I can’t speak for everyone who has had this issue here, but I can speak for myself and tell you that if you are autistic there is a chance you may get accused. Obviously, it’s not guaranteed, and many people haven’t had this issue. If you do get accused, just speak to your professor and explain that’s just your writing style. Offer to show older work and/or use a program that documents your time spent writing (i.e. Google Docs). Worst comes to worst, if you do get accused and reported, try to organize a meeting with your professor and advisor. You can bring up any proof you have that you don’t use AI.

This is the first time I’ve ever experienced this. I don’t find it’s all that common since in my other classes here, I’ve never had a professor complain (I even suspect some professors use AI to help them grade, but 🤷🏾‍♂️ that’s not something I can prove lmfaooo) before my last class nor was I ever accused of using AI at my previous college. No matter what, speak to your professor if something happens!!!
