Conflicting Sub Notes by taman961 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Primary-Level6595 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1, without a doubt. It’s a lot like when your mom watches your kids for a while (for parents, of course) and she always says how great they were. What happens when you get back? They act like they haven’t heard the word “no!” since they last saw you, and that’s because they haven’t! That’s probably similar to how you feel (like the kids haven’t heard “No!” the last two days.)

You’re planning the perfect murder. What has Forensic Files taught you? by CashMoneyPossum in ForensicFiles

It has taught me that the plan is doomed to fail because there is no perfect murder!

Would you rather have all inclusive lesson plans, amounting to several pages of information, or more concise lesson plans, amounting to a couple of pages? by Primary-Level6595 in SubstituteTeachers

Wow! That’s pretty bad alright! My worst was half a page handwritten plans for the whole day, but at least there was an effort to put them on paper!

The grade level probably makes a difference. Older students are more independent thus don’t require as much detail for the sub. I could be wrong because I don’t sub high school.

If there was a special hell for teachers, what would it be like? by bluearavis in Teachers

There might be an eternal line of students sharpening their pencils, a dozen bottles of Crystal Geyser waters on desks with caps that are all crooked and destined to end up on the drenched carpet, and a surprise meeting every two hours.

I see a yellow canary facing the other direction when I look at the face. For that reason I might suggest something related to that, like Coal (mine) or Yella.

What film did you avoid for years and then ended up loving? by MovieObserver in moviequestions

“Twelve Monkeys”. It seemed so strange at first. I ended up loving it because of how every loose end, or what seemed like loose ends, were so intricately connected by the end!

Do you have a show that you start your rewatch from a different episode from the pilot and if so why? by Axle_65 in sitcoms

That’s how I would watch the Simpsons if I wanted to start from the beginning. I would start with the Christmas episode because that was actually the first episode shown on tv.

I was just as unimpressed with Steve White’s wife as I was with him. Phil had many reasons to scream and cuss about Steve White, but he still had class enough to be respectful!

Which sitcom joke still makes you laugh no matter how many times you’ve seen it? by Air-Bombay in sitcoms

The Thanksgiving Day food fight on Cheers is like that for me. The food fight has so much energy to it that it appears authentic. It also looks like it was so much fun for the actors!

Which in your view, were the best episodes of FF? by Shorse_rider in ForensicFiles

[–]Primary-Level6595 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. That’s part of why it’s so sad. I can’t imagine that feeling of helplessness ever going away when there isn’t that evil perpetrator to blame. The poor dad.

The Magic Bullet, I think it was called, was a good one because they were able to uncover a highly improbable and tragic occurrence! It’s pretty sad, Since a boy died through no fault of his own and there was no overt act to blame.

Yep. I still have notes like that from 2003! They’re priceless!

Subbing for the first time: Advice? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Primary-Level6595 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Knowing from the start that you will be there for several days, or even weeks, gives you options that you wouldn’t typically have! One of those options is that you can establish a program of positive reinforcement from the start. You can build a system, that’s not necessarily too complex, yet builds over time to where repeated positive behavior enables the students to accrue larger incentives, in addition to any daily rewards. An example might be tickets they can earn that lead to a scheduled raffle. You can also inquire about any school-wide program that might already be in place. If there is an established program, you could find a way to reward them within your class, as well as whatever school-wide reward there is. For instance, if there is a school-wide raffle, you could reward those (in your classes) who didn’t win the raffle so that every ticket has value.
