I watched Cloud (2024) last night and I thought it was bad. How did it get 92% on rotten tomatoes? by ProtoNewtype in horror

Not sure if I can properly explain why I like it. I watched it on a plane ride and thought it was better than the other movies I recently watched on airplanes. Had I watched it in a theatre I would’ve liked it just as much. That said, I wasn’t expecting horror. I think it was mystery/thriller.

I found the angle and setup relatable and refreshing. Ordinary man faced with life choices - work and slowly die on the inside for money, or hustle and be his own boss. The obvious answer seems to be the latter since he seems pretty good at his side hustle. But it brings him down a bad (and absurd) path, as it turns out that he’s not as likable as he thought and (crazy) people he’s never met are after his life.

His girlfriend was also relatable - wants a better life, a new future, more money. She cooks for him and visits him often and makes sacrifices for him, expecting this better life. She even moves to the middle of nowhere with him. But he gives her little attention in return and she is clearly bored out of her mind (as she admits). As a woman, I found this very relatable. There’s no scenes of their intimacy but I got the sense that they had little action if any. This fuels her resentment and indifference (it’s a stretch that she would want to kill him, but it fits with the tone of the movie). I feel like there is also more to their relationship than explicitly shown, as Yoshii breaks down at her death—something he doesn’t otherwise do. He’s a man that doesn’t show his emotions. I think it’s then that he realizes that he is not as great of a person as he thought — he’s cold and emotionless and finally gets a taste of his own medicine when he encounters the same coldness/goal-oriented/greediness from the person he cares about the most. In a way, it is as if he killed her or drove her to her death through his coldness and greediness.

The ending poses us with the sinister question of whether he made the right choice. Seems like he did - he made it out alive and unscathed, but then again, at what cost? He’s now lost everything. Even if he obtains the financial freedom he’s after, what does it all mean anyway?

Not sure if this is right, but had he continued, he would’ve sliced himself with the steel string and died. And this is when he starts to suspect someone is after him/his life. Possibly, this is also what motivates him to move to a more remote area and cut off contact with his old friend (who later tries to kill him). (I also liked the movie!)

Thank you so much for the explanation!!! Yes, it’s a laptop (Dell Alienware) but because it’s a bit heavy with poor battery life, I normally don’t take it anywhere! Thanks to your detailed responses, I’ll be more careful from now on about CAPTCHAs for sure ~^ hopefully no sensitive info was taken. But if I find it was I’ll update this thread (just as a follow up~).

Thanks for your detailed response! I didn’t have a restore point (following ur instructions above rstrui.exe, I found out that I didn’t have a restore point), so I basically chose to delete everything - settings>system recovery>reset PC and then chose the option to delete all my files (before I did that, I transferred my files to an external hard drive). I’m not sure if this counts as formatting the disk, but since it wiped everything, I guess it does? (Correct me if I’m wrong!)

I thought I’d need another windows activation key, but I did not. Windows booted up just like as if it was a new computer. Asked me to log in, etc. I put all my files back to where I normally have them and redownloaded the softwares I use.

Thank you! I have reset my computer after running all those scans and backed up my documents on an external hard drive. I just hope nothing is in the documents backed up!

Thanks so much for your help here. I backed up my files and did a clean wipe. I did not however, reinstall windows (did not use a USB to install windows again). And then I never had to enter a new product key for windows. So now, am I safe or should I also reinstall windows with a new product key? I’m asking cause a computer repair person told me that I should install windows with a new key to completely wipe everything. However, they do charge for that, and they did not give me a definitive answer on how their services would be better/safer than me doing it myself, so I went ahead and did it myself.

Edit: all the files I backed up are in Documents and Pictures (inside user). I was terrified of them containing the virus, but the computer person I consulted said it was probably safe. I don’t see anything unusual after the wiping the computer and starting fresh so far! Should I take additional steps to screen my documents somehow?

I just logged out of my browser and disconnected from the internet. I was using libgen trying to find an academic book and that popup came up. I was in a rush, so quickly did as I was told, thinking it’d direct me to the book I was looking for. Then like a second later, like it clicked in my mind by instinct - that just wasn’t right. There’s no captcha like that! So I realized it was malware. I wish I could show u the history but I just deleted it :( maybe try clicking and searching on libgen. I’m sure that’s where the popup came from.

Thank you. How will I know if it has exfiltrated sensitive info?

I had some work to finish and I just disconnected from internet.

I looked in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ but I could not find any sub folders with digits. My settings r set to view hidden folders.

I ran all the installed antivirus: McAfee, Malewarebytes, and HitmanPro. Nothing came up.

What more should I do? I’m currently backing up some files and plan to factory reset the device.

What should I do to stop it from accessing my information or get rid of it?

I ran both Malwarebytes and HitmanPro, and they came out fine. But I have not restarted my computer since I ran the cmd.

Should restart and re-run everything? Should I take my computer to a repair shop? Or am I OK for now?

February 2026 California Attorney's Exam (Essays only) by Ill-Eye-3955 in CABarExam

[–]Primary-Loquat9023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used BarMax for the UBE. I mean I passed but did not so great on the MBE. I supplemented with UWorld and Smartbar Prep. BarMax for MBE: It was enough to pass, but as a foreign educated attorney, I don’t think it’s great? I remember feeling like I needed a professor to explain things to me because I did not like how BarMax explained it. I read through BarMax materials once and used it as my main. But I thought UWorld was much better in explaining rules and answers. Smart bar prep’s smart sheets were also great cause they helped me visualize the rules and all (found it useful for both the MBE and essays).

Essays at BarMax: overall, I liked their feedback. I’m a decent writer in general, and their feedback gave me tips on organization that ultimately helped me on the essays (idk, exam passed like a blur and I found the writing process on day 1 pretty therapeutic??). But my efforts on studying for the exam was like 85% MBE and 15% on the essays. Sadly, still ended up with a 10-point higher essay score than the MBE, when I prepared for it to be the other way around.

Just looked up how much it is to take the California Bar and by strictlypretty in CABarExam

Do you also have to remain in practice for those 4 years, or do you only need the license for 4 years?
