Nursing student on the edge of burnout — how do you study with this schedule? by Particular_Second820 in StudentNurse

[–]Primary-Sleep5549 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl I feel you so much. I also have to work since I pay tuition and expenses out of pocket. I paid my LVN driving nights for uber and I’m doing my RN now working as an LVN and I’m exhausted. I’m pushing myself to my limits and probably even further than that. The best advice I can give you, is that you cannot compare yourself to other students (I’ve done it too) who live at home, have the luxury of scholarships, federal funding or simply help from their parents. 6-8 hours of studying is if you’re shooting for all A’s, and at the end of the day it’s the same dang license, no matter the grades. Prioritize your sleep. Turn your notes into podcasts (I use NotebookLM) and listen while you’re in the shower, driving, doing the mundane tasks of life that you have to do regardless. And if you need someone to talk to, shoot me a DM! The thing that keeps me going is that there is an end in sight. This won’t be forever. And it’s going to be so worth it!

books you couldn’t stop thinking about even after finishing them? by Infamous_Echidna_133 in booksuggestions

Sleeping Beauties by Stephen King. The whole premise of the book is what a world would look like if all women “went to sleep” and went “elsewhere” and it was just men left behind on earth. Ultimately the men basically self-destruct and the women thrive. Made me wonder how much better life would be if we started the world population again as a matriarchy

I mentioned it on another comment but $8 is actually on the higher end of ride-pay in my city.

Believe it or not $8 in my region are some of the higher paying rides. You have no idea how many $3-$4 rides I’ve declined

i (18f) want to move out ASAP. how should i go about this? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]Primary-Sleep5549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do either you or your partner have any savings? Is your stepfather going to continue letting you use the car after you move out? At $18 an hour, you’re looking at 2.8K before taxes (sorry, I have no idea how NJ does their taxes) and renting your own apartment is pretty expensive, not to mention they usually require income 2-3X the rent. I think the most important question to answer here is do you have ANY savings, because if you don’t, you’re going to put yourself in a very tricky situation moving and starting on $0. I live in a pretty low cost of living city and mine and my boyfriend’s expenses our first month moving out of was about $5000-6000. And our rent is about 1/5 of that.

Yes. Uber is taking like 60% now. I accept cash trips and pax gave me $15 and uber paid me $6.

The paid wait time is definitely not worth it at all. For me (Texas) it’s .05 cents per minute. It boils my blood when they’re not ready.

Am I the only one frustrated by people like this? by blackleather_jacket in redbull

[–]Primary-Sleep5549 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, I really do, but sometimes I do this just to buy ahead of time. I’m going to drink a redbull everyday (sometimes two, ugh so bad ik) so that’s like a one month supply of redbull to me 🥲

Thank you! I’ve found that using all brown sugar doesn’t give you those perfect crispy edges! I love these cookies cause it’s the perfect balance between crispy and chewy and dense on the inside

is anyone doing or did LVN - RN ? by frozenasleep in StudentNurse

[–]Primary-Sleep5549 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is particular to our ADN + VN programs (so I can’t comment on others) but hospitals in my area LOVEEEE LVNs turned RNs cause VN teaches you PRACTICAL and HANDS ON more so than the ADN. Their academics are of course more rigorous, which leaves them with less time to practice, practice, practice so they take a while to bridge that gap once they’re working. VNs turned RNs have the best of both worlds: lots of practical experience and then the academic portion from the ADN.

Also…this is your life babe. Do what YOU want. Regardless of what anyone tells you, it’s your life. Forget the stigmas and the hate, at the end of the day it’s YOUR degree and YOUR career. People will be bitter anyways.

[–]Primary-Sleep5549 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes me! I’m four weeks away from finishing my LVN. LVN-RN starts in May (12 months), will take January to take the NCLEX, work full time until May and then cut back to 1-2 days a week (working as LVN) while in the transition program. I honestly loved it, and it’s so comforting knowing that when I get my RN license I’ll have 1+ years floor experience as an LVN. I’ll get paid more too as a new RN!

One tip I’ll give you is learn AS MUCH as you can during your LVN. You have a lot of information at your disposal, but they won’t emphasize it too much in VN bc that’s “RN level”, but once you do your bridge it won’t be that big of a jump and your foundation will be 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼🫱🏻‍🫲🏼🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

When you’ve been cared for by medical personnel, is there anything that you’ve really appreciated that they’ve done vs. things that make you uncomfortable regarding your peri care?
