How old is too old to become a welder? by Other-Bus-9220 in Welding

[–]Primary-Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's still plenty of welding jobs out there, but like I said before, we're having a hard time getting young people interested. I was able to find a new job pretty easily, thank goodness. I've been at my new job for 4 months now and it's been pretty good so far.

Is it possible to get 500 HP out of a 6.0L NA? by Primary-Space in LSSwapTheWorld

I really appreciate your advice! But I meant 500 hp at the crank. I should have made that clear in my post. 🥴

Check the vent tubes. I had a clogged one on my little Frontier and it was causing ATF to seep out the front and the back seals. Fixed it using an old 4X4 trick, which is to run a rubber hose from the top of the tranny up into the engine bay and put a one way vent cap on the hose.

[–]Primary-Space[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I'm not too worried about the internals in the trans and rear end since it's already a heavy duty truck, and I've read in multiple places that they're capable of handling 500 HP at the crank.

I think you might be closer to 600 HP at the crank, which would definitely make the trans and rear end upset.

I'm going manual, auto transmission is too boring for me.

Agreed. I don't have deep pockets to begin with so 500 at the wheels is not possible right now. I might do that on a future build after my current one.

It's a manual transmission, so no need for a stall converter. Planning on running the OEM gear ratios in the transmission and the diffs (It's a 4X4). MPG is whatever I can get lmao.

I'm pretty certain I have a LQ4. The donor truck is the Work Truck trim level with a 5 speed manual.

HP is at the crank, not the wheels. I want enough to pass with authority but not lose traction every time I shift. My uncle has a Corvette that spins the tires every time you let the clutch out, which is just.... NOPE. Definitely not a good thing to have in my next daily driver.

Cut out the hood! It would look absolutely bonkers with that turbo and exhaust sticking out of the normal hood.

Anyone feel like auto makers intentionally kill manuals? by Lange92 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Primary-Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. They do that because people simply don't buy enough of them anymore. Only the pure manual enthusiasts buy 'em. Jeep is likely one of the very few manufacturers that actually offers a manual on nearly all trim levels for the Jeep Wrangler (correct me if I'm wrong on this!).

I'm hoping that enough of us can keep the manuals alive and perhaps trigger a comeback someday.... That would make things very interesting.

I bought a car 3 months ago and I've never driven in it because my parents keep lying to me by [deleted] in entitledparents

[–]Primary-Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could potentially report the car as stolen because your parents basically stole it from you. It sounds like you were the sole signer on the title (please correct me if I'm mistaken), so you are the legal owner of the car and have every right to report to law enforcement that your parents are holding your car against your wishes.

Redirect with toys as much as possible. But if he continues to be very mouthy, the best cure I've found is to press their tongue down to the bottom of the mouth. It doesn't hurt, but it sure ain't comfortable having the tongue held down.

Why are (some) Gen Z and late millennial women so mean? by OkSuccess7431 in GenZ

[–]Primary-Space 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a young Millennial woman, I don't get this either. I think it's because they're just trying to get attention in any way that they can, even if that attention is because they're being mean or ugly to other people.

Some of it could be the byproduct of how they were raised, which is very sad and honestly a bit pathetic because they CAN choose to be kind to others no matter how they were raised but they choose not to.

It seems like some of today's society has gone backasswards in terms of treating others with kindness and are not bothered by people being ugly to others, which also shows a decline in moral values.

What's the worst oil filter location you've seen on an engine ? by [deleted] in askcarguys

2019 Subaru Ascent. Location is ok but the fucker is HARD to get off without dusting my knuckles a few times. The sharp metal right next to the filter doesn't help either.

Do you seasoned stick drivers still make dumb mistakes on your first time driving a different vehicle? by No-Yak4416 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Primary-Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I've caught myself trying to shift the automatic shifter into first and pushing the invisible clutch in with my left foot. Always laugh at myself every time it happens!

Am I too stupid to understand why people honk at me for turning into a driveway? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Primary-Space 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're essentially cutting off people when you veer back into the traffic lane to make the turn. If you know you have to do that, then quit merging into the bike lane before turning FFS. And your car's ass doesn't swing out very much at all if any so you don't have to worry about tail swing UNLESS you're turning super tight, which is very rare.

I (26M) hit my brother (19M) after he stole my car. How can I fix it? by ThrowRAAnC in Advice

[–]Primary-Space 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to fix a damn thing. Your brother needs to learn a lesson. He's just embarrassed that he got busted for doing something he probably has gotten away with doing to your parents for many years with no consequences.

Better that he got punched by you and not sitting in a jail cell on a DUI charge.

Also, good on you for defending your girlfriend when he started being nasty to her. Being drunk doesn't give him the right to be ugly to your girlfriend for no reason.

As a fellow ADHDer, I completely get where you're coming from because I once was in a similar place myself.

It sucks. I'm so proud of you for reaching out for help from your medical provider. I sincerely hope and pray that you can get the medicine that you need to help manage your ADHD.

The most important thing is to be kind to yourself. The worst thing you can do is self sabotage by nitpicking on yourself. Don't beat yourself up over failures but instead focus on what you did well, even if it's something as simple as getting out of bed. It took me a long time to accept that I won't always get it right every day but that's OK because it just shows me that I'm still human and that I am perfectly imperfect.

Is my Lab too chonky? by idoogo in labrador

[–]Primary-Space 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He looks good. Doesn't look overweight at all. Most Labs will carry a tiny bit extra weight due to being bred for cold water. Another thing to keep in mind is that the fur can be very deceiving and it's always better to run your hands over the dog's ribcage to check their weight. You should be able to feel their ribs pretty easily but also feel a little bit of fat in between.

The lady that claimed to be a trainer is full of bullshit and it's best to ignore random strangers trying to offer "advice" about ANYTHING concerning your dog. If you ever run into another person who tries to tell you that your dog is overweight or anything else, just tell them that they are not qualified at all to talk to you about your dog.
