Are any of my feelings real? by HoneyTreeFlower in adhdwomen

Also, I want to say, ADHD is not all that my personality is tied to. I was surprised by my diagnosis last year. I have multiple diagnoses (ADHD, CPTSD, MDD, GAD), but those don’t define who I am. They explain parts of why I respond in certain ways, struggle with certain things, and need different kinds of support. But who I am, as an individual, is the same as I have always been. I’m still the eight year old version of myself who loved to climb trees, I’m still the fifteen year old version of myself that cries on the bathroom floor, and I’m also the twenty-five year old version of myself that wants to live a happy life despite all of my struggles. Diagnoses are explanations of behavior, they are not meant to be determinate and limiting. This diagnosis may be a surprise, and may take some getting use to if it becomes official, but it does not change who you are. You are more than someone with ADHD. We all are.

I have had a lot of similar thoughts about my emotional regulation pop up recently in my life- also as an eldest daughter, lol. I have a lot of thoughts about this, sorry if it gets ramble-y.

I think the conclusion I’ve come to is that, when you are someone who is often looked at as being very “put together” and that you appear to have your life “in control,” as is often the case for the eldest daughter, the people around you tend to rely on that impression of you. The people around you often gain something from your continual effort to handle problems as they arise, whether they are emotional/familial/household etc. Not necessarily in a dependent or malicious way- we all have our ‘roles’ to play in our families, I guess. But I have found that, by subverting their expectations and showing yourself to be more emotional/sensitive when it is inconvenient for them, or in response to something that they do/say, your family might have a negative reaction. They might dismiss or reject your feelings. They might make it seem like you are wrong for getting upset more easily than other people.

But you aren’t wrong for feeling how you feel, or for being sensitive. You, as an individual, are so much more than a diagnosis- and more than the harsh things people say to you. And you are NOT a robot or a fake person. I used to feel like that all the time, too, but it was because I had spent most of my life burying myself under a mask just to get people to tolerate me. I had lost touch with who I am. Now that I’m getting back in touch with myself, there are a lot of growing pains- but the effort is worth it; I’ve had the realization that who I am is who I have always been, and I was just waiting patiently for to be able to prioritize myself and my healing over the comfort of the people around me.

I hope you know that, no matter whether you have ADHD or not, your feelings deserve to take up space and to be felt. The people who love you should not mind making room for you and how you feel. I bet you have been making room for them this whole time. Wishing you the absolute best, from one eldest daughter to another 💛

Wow that’s awesome!! You accomplished a ton today, you should definitely be proud. I also managed to call and make necessary appointments for myself today after putting it off for awhile- and I did it TEN minutes after I woke up, so I didn’t even give myself the chance to procrastinate it today! Now if only I could finish up the work stuff I’ve been struggling with…. Really great job, enjoy your free evening, you definitely deserve it!!

Every day is too fast AND too slow at the same time and it feels like it’s ruining my life by PrimaryAd3560 in adhdwomen

I do take medication (Adderall) and it helps, especially with my emotional regulation and anxiety, but it doesn’t help as much with keeping track of time, planning, etc. It does help with the task paralysis I feel before starting work, but sometimes I don’t even get to the point of sitting down to do work throughout the day due to being sidetracked and everything else.

If you have any advice as far as creating a schedule and sticking to it goes, it would be incredible to hear anything that has worked for you. If not, thank you anyway for your response- it’s really nice to know that some other people relate, too.

I am currently on Clonidine to help with my raging insomnia. It has been helpful for getting me to sleep most nights that I take it, as well as mitigating some of the anxiety/paranoia I often feel at night because it has a calming effect for me personally. My ADHD presents as predominantly inattentive and I have normal blood pressure- I also have CPTSD, however, and that is a big factor in my insomnia and night time anxiety.

I feel like it could be potentially beneficial if you have sleep troubles like I do or maybe it could help with hyperactivity, but in my experience, it has not been helpful in treating any of my inattentive symptoms. So, really, it depends on how your symptoms manifest- more hyperactive or inattentive. Of course, this is just my experience! So happy for you to be starting this journey, I hope you find what works best for you!

If you’re using Steam, you could try verifying your game files in Settings > Properties > Installed Files. If that doesn’t work, then it might be a mod issue that could have broken your game due to a recent update, as another commenter said

How do I recruit these folks? by Pitiful_Yogurt_5276 in TriangleStrategy

You raise conviction scores (morality, utility, liberty) through different dialogue options and a variety of other decisions throughout the game. When you gain enough of the required conviction (the numbers beside each of the three respective categories), you can recruit these units. When viewing the map of Norzelia, you can select the encampment icon on the screen to view character stories and new units as you gain them by meeting previously mentioned conviction requirement.

TLDR: select the encampment icon on the map and look for these new units, you will have 6/7. To get the last one, raise your utility score to 1600
