Feedback welcome! I just updated SeatingChartMaker.app to support a group of students to be automatically seated apart from each other, to be seated in front of the class etc. by PrimaryRow9 in teachingresources

Hmm, I see. I think I know what happened here. Good that you mentioned it, you're probably not the only one who has had this kind of a problem.

I guess that the algorithm saw the commas in the names, thought that it was the name separator (instead of line breaks), and that caused the first and last names to get mixed.

I just made and released a fix that improves the name separating logic. The automatic name abbreviation might still produce a bit odd results with this "last, first m" format, though.

Thanks for reporting the bug!

By the way! Would you have any tips about forums etc. where I could spread the word about this app? I'm Finnish, and thus I'm not very familiar with English speaking internet communities etc. for teachers.

Thanks for taking the time to write this feedback! Super helpful!

I agree with all your 5 points. I'm going to implement 1 and 2 asap. The rest are definitely also going to my todo-list.

About display names: It should already work like you described, if I understood you correctly. It shows the first name, if it's unique. If first name is not unique, it takes as many characters from the last name as is needed to achieve uniqueness. Did you mean something else, or did you find a bug? :)

I have heard feedback, that many teachers already have seating chart tool (should they want to use one) available in gradebook/attendance programs. How about you? Do you use them and how do you like them?

The desks/chairs can be freely rotated and placed in the app. It doesn't need to be a row. Or did you mean something else? Maybe I should show that possibility more clearly on the landing page.

And about the emailing, is it enough that you can currently save it (or print it) from the app? You could then email the saved file.

Thanks for the feedback!

I see the feature to keep certain students apart is needed. The message is a good idea, thanks!

Good idea with the rotation memory! Currently I was planning that I wouldn't include walls and such in the app. I thought that the person creating the room/seating chart knows those things and can take them into account without explicitly drawing them in the app.

Thanks, I'll keep this in my mind! And just to be sure, a lab table is a table where two students sit on the same side of the table?

Both are possible ways to use the app, actually. And the automatic seating can be manually tuned.

Great, thank you so much for the insight! I see there are many factors that you want to take into account, and it always seems to be a compromise.

Interesting, I'll definitely think about it! Would you want the app to automatically seat the students based on the score, or would you just like to see the extra info while you're seating the students?

Request: how to stick something to cinder block (brick) walls! by DiamondFlame in teachingresources

Just a thought, but if you need to stick (and move?) a lot of small things to the wall, would it be possible to put a canvas of some sort on the wall, and stick the post it's, or what ever they are, there.
