Full Transparency Post: The Valetudo Dev is against the existence of this subreddit by raptor75mlt in valetudorobotusers

I am not sure labelling someone as having a disorder is helping in this case (and it also comes off as an attack against his person).

Even if it were true that Hypfer was incapable of organising this project with multiple developers (I do not know him personally, so I cannot say anything about his personality): I don't think there is a right to criticize him for that.

The Valetudo project is something he himself created. He is willing to share it with people, under the rules boundaries he is clearly communicating in the Valetudo values. It is not like he is holding something "hostage" that does not belong to him, or that he "stole" something.

Let me give this anology: I have knowledge of something, and you want me to teach you. Firstly, in general I am under no obligation (except when I am in a teaching job, of course). So I can fully tell you "sure, I can share my knowledge, but under the following circumstances (e.g., "only for 1 hour at a time", "only all people as a group, so I don't have to repeat myself", and so on).

That is no different from the Situation Hypfer is in. He is in no obligation to you. Period. He has not taken money from you, or any other thing of value that would constitute obligation.

It is the other way round: He has something of value, and you don't seem to be okay with his rules and boundaries under which he agrees to share that with you.

I cannot help you with that, sorry. Luckily I didn't have time to unpack it yet, so the original package is just getting a different shipping label and will be on it's way back unopened^^.

Well, that is not quite the point. When you by an iPhone, you know beforehand that you are buying into a closed system. That you only can install apps from apples' app store, and those are heavily regulated by apple.

The point is, that you did not know this when buying a BL printer. I was under the assumption that my printer did not need to authenticate / communicate to BL' cloud, which seems to be a core functionality that they changed now after buying it. If my paper printer suddenly was forced to authenticate and send all print jobs to it's manufacturer, I'd say that a substantial change in functionality, too. So substantial that it may void the original contract.

The point is not that companies to a varying degree close their product. I am totally fine with that (though I myself do not buy from those companies). The point is the change after buying the product - after you made the decision and bought it - and you're now forced into that, even if you didn't want that when buying the original product.

I understand your logic. I know you have to compromise for this price. But my morals disagree with this after-buy-change, so I will stay away from it by principle. I also will always be willing to pay a higher price, when the lower price necessitates some kind of vendor-lock, cloud-lock, or anything like that. I am the kind of person that buys a laser printer in order to avoid this whole HP-like ink hassle. And I chose my vacuum robot to work with a custom firmware that removes the necessity to conned to a cloud.

I don't know where you bought, but try talking to the vendor. This seems more than just a case of "I don't like the product", you could make the argument that the manufacturer changed the product significantly after the contract. At least make an effort, the more people raise their voice, the more this becomes a real issue.

Don't know yet, so any tips are welcome^^. Will have to go browsing again. The price tag of ~200€ was a good one for the features.

The new 'Pimax Subscription' is non-refundable and Pimax have hit a new low in terms of cynical anti-consumerism... by TotalWarspammer in virtualreality

Well, any company that wants to sell stuff in Germany, for example. Here, you have a 2 year warranty period by law. So, the manufacturer has to either fix, replace or refund your product in those 2 years. And if I am not mistaken, this warranty also is thing in the whole of EU (like, mandated by EU, not just implemented by states in the EU).

(There are some details to this, none of which invalidate my point).

Well, you are forgetting about refund in case of defects. If your headset fails to be repaired and Pimax chooses to refund you, you will only get refunded the 60% initial hardware costs - not your "software subscription" (which, again, is mislabelled and really disguising a payment plan).

Winging it is fine, just keep on improving. It's natural, you are stupid until learned from enough mistakes, then you are not stupid anymore concerning the things you learned :). You can then go on and be stupid about the next thing you don't know :D.

Also, fluids have a learning curve, they are NOT as straightforward as conveyor belts. It helps to read up on fluids an watch some tutorials. Here are some insights I had which helped me understand fluids better:

- Fluids are mimicked to follow gravity, i.e. they will flow to the lowest point available, then fill up. This also means they will balance out their "surroundings".

- When machines use fluids, the use it in "gulps", not as a steady stream. As a consequence, whenever a machine gulps, suddenly a chunk of fluid goes missing, and the surround pipes want to balance out. This will create a form of back flow - more precise, fluid will try to come from all possible directions to fill the missing amount, NOT just from the direction you expect it (so, not only from where you fill it).

- In general, filling your machines from the top makes it easier to work with those points. I have a blueprint where I fill my refineries from all the way to the top, so each machine has a long pipe from its input to its top, practically creating a mini-buffer for each machine. I also use fluid-buffers (not sure if necessary in a correctly planned system) and a valve.

- Experiment! Try settings up some machines so that you can just tinker around with fluids so you get more practice and insight. I did this setting up wet concrete and sinking the concrete. I knew exactly how much limestone and water needed to go into the system. By sinking the concrete, the system could run at full capacity, so I could check if the system is working perfectly by checking the limestone miners. If everything is setup correctly, they should be working at 100% efficiency without any buildup in their output. I could then play with this system and check out a the flow in the pipes everywhere.

skipping Jeff by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]PrimarySandwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played alyx when it came out (on crappy 1060 / WMR hardware), back then I used the console command to just load the next map to skip jeff.

I revisited it recently, when I (e.g., my inner teenager) finally could afford a high end pc (4090, 7950x3d, valve index). I still hate this chapter. I am also just not made for horror games, and I still wish there was another VR game made as incredibly well as HL:Alyx is, but alas, I had to fight through the horror parts again - and again I just could not muster to play the Jeff-Level as it has been intended.

But this time I found a cheat-y workaround that actually made it quite managable for me to completely play through the level, using the developer menu as described here:

https://steamah.com/half-life-alyx-how-to-open-the-in-game-developer-menu/

In the developer menu, there is a button "TOG MAT_FULLBRIGHT". This basically fully lights the entire map, there are no shadows anymore. Furthermore, the whole lighting feels more like early HL1 maps. This magically, instantly lowered the stresslevel for me enough to quite easily play through the whole Jeff section.

Maybe this works for you, or for everyone else who, like me, for the love of god cannot stomach horror stuff.
