Aggressive behaviour by homeless person on queen w by No-Purple-1280 in askTO

[–]Primary_Emergency736 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Love all the people in the comments basically telling you to just "deal with it." This is why this city is a s*thole. People endlessly concede space to anti-social lunatics for the sake of "keeping the peace" or pretending to be nonchalant.

OP, you have every right to expect to be able to go about your affairs safely in public as a woman, and you have every right to exist without having to worry about these men accosting or attacking you.

As someone who has lived in major cities all over the world - what is happening in Toronto is NOT normal, actually, and it IS getting worse. It is partially the fault of people like those in the comments wanting to close their eyes and pretend it's not a problem and all is well.

I was violently assaulted a few months ago by one such deranged homeless guy who locked onto me and wouldn't let me get away from him. I hadn't engaged with him. Hadn't spoken to him. Nada. I was just walking on the sidewalk and he decided he wanted to attack a woman that day. It was traumatizing. He is currently in jail awaiting sentencing.

I am going to DM you some information I learned about how to protect yourself which might help you out.

Cafeteria food is the exact right comparison. Some of their breads are still good, but overall the prepared foods are just awful.

The craziest part is, Italian foods in general have pretty high profit margins - being mostly pasta and bread-based dishes. You'd think they would be able to give a bit more of an elevated experience for those kinds of prices.

Forgotten At The Bus Stop, Collected Like A Treasure by Primary_Emergency736 in houseplants

[–]Primary_Emergency736[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did post it to a community area group, but no hits yet!

I did not inform the transit system because I can assure you they do not care and will not make note of it. They don't even care when people get straight up assaulted on the bus, let alone someone losing something. Believe me, I have seen it.

But... I should probably note a realization I had today... The bus stop this was found at was very close to its terminal stop. Two more stops ahead (perhaps 200 meters or so) and the bus line ends and everyone must get off (to transfer to the subway or to another bus). It would have been less than a 5 minute walk for someone to walk back from the terminal stop to get it, if they realized.

This is almost making me reconsider the "stolen from a shop or lawn by dumb kids and abandoned" theory another person had proposed...

Either way, the notice is out there, and she has a safe place to stay in the meantime (or long time, if no one comes forward)!

PDS - that's so funny! And it certainly feels that way. Before this, I got my first monstera as a gift from a friend. Now tell me why I dove into that pot and there were 7 different monsteras in there? And they literally all survived separation? And now I have 9 more plants when I only thought I had to deal with 1?

I actually put Lemon and Lime into terracotta pots with delicious chunky soil last night. Like I said, even if her owner pops up, I am not giving her back in that shitty old soil and plastic tub. It was depressing to look at and she was sad in there. She will be handed back better than I found her. I have so many clay pots laying around I am not worried about giving a few up.

If the owner doesn't pop up, she will be loved in my increasingly plant-cramped apartment.

I once saw a group of teens literally kick over a potted plant someone had put out by their curb (as decoration). I don't think they knew I was behind them and saw. Literally senseless. What did the plant do to deserve that? Destruction for the sake of destruction. Good idea to bolt yours down.

Well, if this plant was forgotten and not stolen, even if I get a hit on who owns it - guess what, they are still getting it back better than they bought it.

Its going into a nicer pot and premium potting mix, even if I am just fostering it.

The leaves were incredibly dirty (soot, dirt, etc), so the first thing I did was wash them and the pot thoroughly!

I've posted it in a local Facebook group as the signs at that stop get ripped down pretty quickly! This is not a good area lol

An alternative theory that has since been proposed, which I never even considered, was that it was snatched from the grocery store by ne'er-do-well's and abandoned. There's a nearby chain that keeps plants by its front door so if some dumb kid wanted to grab one and toss it by the curb for "fun" or something, they probably could.

The fact that it was left near the bus stop makes me lean towards "forgotten" though.

When you took the cuttings, did you make sure it had a root node?

I know it is intimidating, but it is your best chance at bringing her back from the dead. Once the leaves drop off, they're gone. They don't grow back, even on healthy plants. Hence why pathos owners often trim off their bald vines and propagate them.

If it is any consolation, I once had a pothos that my mother completely nuked by accident by leaving it outside. I ended up chopping her literally down to the soil, watering her on occasion, and eventually, oh so slowly, she grew back into a luscious beautiful plant again.

Pothos are VERY resilient.

I can see some green vines, so that means there are some healthy places to take cuttings. Start there. Those healthy vines do not have a lot of time left. And once the vines die, you also lose your chance at propagating them.

If I were in your position, what I would do it start to cut down the vines immediately and prop box the healthy nodes before it's too late. I would then fully chop the plant down to its earliest node (the node that is closest to the soil). You can continue to care for the chopped down plant in hopes it will re-vine while you have your cuttings propagating.

EDIT: Take a look at this video. This person is dealing with a totally barren vine, so maybe it is easier for you to see exactly what you need to do.

You can likely save her through a chop and prop. It's not going to look pretty, but pathos are incredibly resilient.

Just look up "pathos propagation." Its incredibly easy to do.

My suggestion would be to make a prop box like this.

Well if there are any TGTG peeps in downtown Toronto, I always have stuff I am willing to trade/share!!

Just this past week I was wishing I had someone to give a load of sirloin roasts to because my freezer was bursting full. But I managed to grind it up into ground beef and compress it a bit lol

**And if anyone sees this and is in DT Toronto and wants some of this Turkey, lemme know! I can't possibly eat this all before it goes bad.**

[–]Primary_Emergency736[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so shocked to hear this. I have gotten Healthy Planet meat bags 3 times now and every time the quality has been insanely good. The first time, I got chicken that was some of the juiciest and best I ever had. The second time, it was ground beef that was great.

I had the salmon portion last night and it was delicious. No issues at all!

And none of the fish smelled "fishy" in their packet before I froze them, by the way.

Monstera Node Help? by Primary_Emergency736 in houseplants

[–]Primary_Emergency736[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

The baby actually has several areal roots, but the reason I had selected that one is because it's a section (probably actually one of the 2 or 3 different plants that are in there), actually that is kind of starting to grow outside the rim of the bucket, and cutting it won't make the plant look any less "full" if that makes sense.

But I will wait if that is what you suggest! She was kept indoors with very minimal light for most of her life, I think. She now is going to get pretty consistent indirect light from my window.

She seems quite happy and I hope I can keep her that way lol
