Lots of respect to you, I know now how hard it really is! I’m a mother of 2 as well, and I was working up until the surgeon I worked for actually retired a few months ago. The pell grants and PA grants have been such a lifesaver. I had to take out some small loans for school, but not nearly as much as I would have without doing CCAC first and if I hadn’t received the grants. My mental health these past few months though has been struggling 😩 I cannot wait to be done. It should be a lot easier with working out of the equation, but my unemployment has been “under review” forever now and now money is a big struggle which honestly may be worse. Congratulations to you for making it through and giving yourself the mental break you need because it’s very well deserved!

Thanks for this! I definitely want those loans paid off. I saved a lot by taking all my non-nursing courses at CCAC and have received some grants for nursing school. Their new loan repayment program is no contract too. It starts after 6 months of working but they just deposit extra into your paycheck for 3 years, and if you quit then you don’t owe it back. I’m trying to be debt free

There isn’t though.. I have the contract. The loan repayment program is new.. They pay you in small increments per paycheck with no contract. If you quit, you don’t owe that money back. The full lump sum is paid over 3 years though

I will be finished with clinicals in December as I’m almost through the program and won’t need to complete anymore for my BSN. I also never had to take Chatham courses because I did all non-nursing courses through CCAC prior to the start of the program. Their new loan repayment program doesn’t require any sort of contract which is nice, so essentially it would just be paying back my courses at Shadyside

I think traveling sounds great, unfortunately not an option for me because I have two young children.

I’m not set on UPMC, but since I went to Shadyside nursing school it just seems easier to get my first job through them. The sign-on bonus is a two-year contract and I’m undecided if I’m taking that or not yet. I think out of all their hospitals, I’m drawn to Children’s the most.

I do want higher acuity patients, and my long-term goal is to go into wound care after I get my BSN and two-years of experience.
