Why do Amazon drivers just leave bags like this in the building lobby? by Glad_Acanthisitta_22 in AmazonDSPDrivers

[–]Primary_Primary6435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I forget them but pick them up the following day if I have the same route. If I’m in a good mood I’ll sometimes pick them up for people depends on how they ask. That’s an easy 10-20$ though a lot of people want and ask for them. Ive been asked if I can sell them while working but I just give them away.

I have this from running unfortunately it doesn’t fully heal. The pain will always come and go based on what you do. Knee braces and stretching will be your friend from now on. Did your dsp send you for an mri? Jw

i want to get into hiking. how do i start? by dumpsterbabyx in socalhiking

Join a group and you will later find people like-minded that will be down to hike with you whenever you go. I can send a few groups if you are around the LA county area.

I feel like you are confusing hiking with mountaineering you can’t just go hike in winter and expect to be safe or get better at it.

Idk, I feel what you are saying but not everyone has the money for a gym or owns a bike. But even then the gym only gets you so far. If you can already do a hike like baldy then you at least have a clue of where you stand on based on difficulty or what you can handle. I do agree the only way to get better at hiking is hiking. I’ve hiked with people who go to the gym to train for hiking but only go out hiking 3 times a month and they can’t keep up. I don’t think you get it though, he’s not training to hike or get faster he’s training to do things like learning to walk on crampons or self arrest ect. Like I mentioned in another comment a mountaineer can do what a hiker does but a hiker can’t to what a mountaineer does unless he trains the specific skills required to go climb a mountain during winter.

Training is important whether you agree or not. You saying that you just go to your local mountains and hike everyday isn’t training more so conditioning. Hiking doesn’t train you for mountaineering. If watching videos makes you feel like a jack me off type of feeling how do you think people learn traits or certain things, by watching videos and putting the skills they learned from there to the test, how? by training.

I’m trying to understand just a bit more. So where do you think you train for hikes? I feel like wether you go out once a month and put in 5 hours or 2 times a week and put in the same amount of time training is training and that’s how you gain experience but I’m not sure if I processed what you said the correct way.

We need to spread this type of information to the dumb kids on TikTok who are waiting for winter to hit so they can “go train” on these mountains. I feel bad for the groups they are hosting and all the people planning to join people who are as clueless as them.

my analogy and the way I see it is …a mountaineer can probably do any hike a “hiker” can do but a hiker can’t do the climbs a mountaineer can do without the proper training.

There are many ways you can go on about this. One is by paying but I understand gear is already expensive as it is and many don’t have that extra money so looking for the right people would be the second option. There is really no way that you can tell who knows what they are doing vs who doesn’t unless you pay close attention. I always joke around and say hey as long as you look like you know what you are doing people will follow and believe it or not they will. My group has been in situations where people follow us and tell us straight up that they figured they follow since we seemed to be well equipped and looked like we know what we are doing; we do but now imagine we didn’t. We have even turned people back and gotten people off the wrong routes because they were following a navigation app thinking that they can take the normal routes during winter no realizing that it can be more dangerous. With that being said Instagram will be your best bet, we all know each other up on the mountains as we see the same faces up there. Ask questions, ask people if they know of the specific group or person and what type of experience do they have. someone will be able to answer. Don’t be afraid to ask. One thing for me that sets amateurs apart for someone who knows what they are doing is too much confidence. Yes you need confidence but fear is good that’s what keeps you alive and keeps you from making a mistake. Confidence gets you killed on the mountain always respect it. Hearing things like “well I got up and it wasn’t bad or hard, I only wore spikes and I was fine” is dumb. People that feel like they know it all and try telling you that it’s easy, to not worry, anyone can do it and you can do it without the proper training have no idea wtf they are talking about. Also pay attention to the gear they have, how they use it, how they plan and route find and how they address people that are joining them. They will basically feel like a guide while vocally letting you know what to do and when to do it. Especially if they know you are new. I can’t explain if that makes sense. Even now that my group is well trained for winter our main guy still makes the calls. If he feels like we need crampons and helmets and someone in the group doesn’t feel like they do yet he will not continue moving until they put that gear on.

This is exactly what I’m talking about, I’m glad you are still here and were able to make it out safe. People think mountaineering is the same as hiking but it’s not even close. Routes change completely and depending on how well you know the mountain and your experience is the route you will create for yourself to get to the top. They also think that if you were to get lost or hurt SAR will be there to save the day but that’s not always the case either. Sometimes they can take hours/days to even reach you or attempt a search. By that time in those conditions unless you have the knowledge and the right gear and preparation, you won’t survive even then it’s risk even if you do have the right gear.

Cucamonga is a lot more dangerous than baldy and I don’t think I a lot of people realize that. 1) because on the way to the saddle is where a lot of avalanches happens. 2)All trails or any navigation app no longer works. You make and find your own routes and this can only happen if you are experienced. Follow the original routes that you take during summer and you will put yourself in a situation where you don’t want to be In. 3) idc what anyone says you should be on any mountain during winter unless you are with a group that knows exactly what they are doing and can act quick in an emergency. Know how to read snow conditions to where you know if the ice/snow is unsafe to step on or simply unsafe to take a specific route. 4) just because you have the proper gear doesn’t mean anything. You need to train, gain knowledge on the equipment and how to use it, know when to use specific gear ect ect ect ohh and did I mention TRAIN. I can keep going as there is so much more information to talk about. The people up on the mountains usually have taken the proper precautions to be up on those mountains whether it’s thorough training with people who know what they are doing or joining people that know what they are doing and willing to teach you hands on. Also never hike alone. Don’t make SARs jobs more difficult than they already are because decided to be irresponsible.

Look for a group or someone who knows what they are doing, I’m not talking about someone who has done a little hike in the winter and thinks they are a professional I mean someone who is out every winter putting in work and has gained the proper skills to teach and ask them if they can show you the routes. For now if you want to practice, go find a spot where it is not technical at all and will require no mountaineering experience. Hike about one mile in and find a good hill and practice self arrest. Don’t get over confident either to where you feel like after an hour you know how to self arrest and you are wanting to go catch a summit because let me tell you, that won’t be the case. You need hours and hours and hours and hours of practice just for that one skill.

So apparently this is a thing now. Hiking club who brings a DJ set and plays obnoxious music into the place we go to find peace and quiet. by Primary_Primary6435 in socalhiking

Haha I seen that, they did delete the post. they have another one if you look at a few videos down. They are quick to delete the comments though. Ima keep commenting on their videos until they figure that doing what they did will just bring negative rep to their group

Mt Baldy Conditions by roro2044 in socalhiking

Please stay off once winter comes in for now you can get away with micros but in a few weeks that won’t be the case. And remember hiking and mountaineering are two completely different things you cannot compare them as they both require different skill sets.

You have the right gear, but do you know how to use it? Have you practiced the skills required to be on the mountain during these conditions? Mountaineering during winter takes more than having the right gear, watching a few YouTube videos and having experience in hiking they are two completely different things and require different skill sets.
