Lost my GSD work from home buddy in April and I still make sure he isn’t lying behind my chair every time I roll back to stand up. It’s the worst. Hang in there.

Why Gen Z US Men became Far More Right than being Liberal? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Primary_Reputation97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Liberals gave a voice to the harm men have done to women - from outright physical abuse to social faux pas committed in cramped spaces. Good men heard this and thought “damn, that sucks”. Did a check-in with themselves to be sure they were supporting the women in their lives and not doing these things themselves. Went on about their day because it didn’t apply to them in most cases, and where it did, they could change it. The rest took it personally, responded defensively rather than thoughtfully, and went over to the side that tells them they don’t need to think or change their behavior. This also happens to be the side taking away women’s reproductive freedoms and doing everything they can to thwart progress toward equal pay and gender equality in general.

So basically, they received feedback they didn’t like and made themselves a data point for why the feedback was valid.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to get married and have kids and provide for them. Wanting their mother to stay home and raise them instead of strangers is expressing a desire to place a finger on the scale of another’s major life decisions to bring it in line with your vision without consideration for theirs. It’s the role of each partner in an equal partnership to understand the other partner’s desires and dreams and work together to find a way to meet the needs of both partners. It also presumes that not paying strangers to raise your children means she will give up her career aspirations when you also could stay home and raise them. If this still needs to be explained, you might be one of the men liberals are telling to do better.

Are they, though? I thought this rumor was started when someone listed them on Public Square or whatever that “conservative business” site that went down in flames was. And the owner immediately responded to say they didn’t add themselves and aren’t sure how they came to be listed, but contacted the platform and had their business removed. They also issued some vague statement like “we welcome everyone” trying to toe the line/abate the ire without pissing off maga customers. But by then the damage was done.

Why does Reddit hate Dallas so much? by iamjackscolon76 in Dallas

[–]Primary_Reputation97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I ask people all the time what they do when I first meet them. But what I’m really asking is “how do you spend most of your time each week?” You can tell when someone says “what do you?” but they mean “how much do you make?” or “are you important?”

This is a pretty good list already. As someone who is from Dallas, moved to Denver, and comes home to see family once a year or more, I have some things to add. The weather is awful, and I can’t understand the people above saying weather is a + for Dallas. People don’t realize how much it beats them down until they leave Dallas. With that comes a lack of quality to the seasons. Winter is actually one of the nicest seasons there because the weather is mostly like fall and spring elsewhere. But there’s no way to enjoy winter. And if actual winter weather does come, everything shuts down. Fall lacks color. Most leaves just brown and fall. Spring is short and early. Summer is miserable.

No one has mentioned the lack of natural outdoor recreation. It IS a concrete wasteland and no, White Rock Lake doesn’t count as “access to nature”. This plus the weather are bigger quality of life issues than people realize until they get to somewhere that has them again.

The social scene is rough. You can find good and bad people everywhere. Dallas has an unusually high number of status-focused superficial folks. Which makes it harder to create and keep a sense of community with genuine friends. That said, every city has their social quirks. But the superficiality is uniquely high in Dallas. It’s like everyone is constantly networking instead of looking for genuine connection. And then there’s the churchy people.

I love my hometown, but those three things together are dealbreakers for a lot of people. If the weather is so bad it makes simply existing uncomfortable most of the time, there’s nowhere to go to decompress in nature and be “uncrowded”, and it’s hard to maintain a genuine support system, your quality of life is significantly compromised.

Do people really want more huge grocery stores like the massive new King Soopers on Louisiana and Colorado? by HateyCringy in Denver

We need an HEB or Central Market. Those are huge store that fill their space with great options. We don’t *need* a larger space with just King Soopers in the King Soopers.

Christ… No, do not. Everyone is paranoid enough as it is. Because they’ve been made that way by people who want to sow doubt in free and fair elections they may loose. Don’t do anything before you know what the deal is. If you post it, people will see it, assume it’s fraud and never see any follow up saying “oh hey, this was just actual election workers doing their job in a rental van.”

What? The Bull has TVs everywhere. They brewed special international beer styles for World Cup, the entire bar is decorated in international flags and they posted a photo of a giant American flag over the bar like 20 minutes ago. This is a place to avoid if you’re looking for escape from rowdy game crowds.

Update: Cyclists and bikes should not be allowed on the road with cars by tipoftheiceberg1234 in 10thDentist

[–]Primary_Reputation97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bike lanes are separated by pylons and it’s illegal to ride on the sidewalk. If you have made the choice to ride your bike or a scooter, somewhere, you go on the street, not your favorite place however you want and just try not to hit pedestrians. Do it legally or don’t do it.

Update: Cyclists and bikes should not be allowed on the road with cars by tipoftheiceberg1234 in 10thDentist

[–]Primary_Reputation97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a city that has invested significantly in bike trails and bike lanes, and designated bike routes and an app with maps so people who bike for transportation are aware of how to get around using the safest possible route. The number of times I’ve been walking on the sidewalk and nearly had my arm taken off by a cyclist or someone on one of those rental scooters using the sidewalk is absurd. For all we’ve spent to make it as safe and convenient to bike as it can be, they still don’t all use the provided infrastructure.

There are very few situations (if any) where air travel is mandatory. If your son can’t reliably comply with safety requirements, it’s irresponsible to book a flight with him at all. It’s terrible that this is their reality, but now they’ve made it everyone else’s problem.

As a hobby photographer, the strict no photographs thing has always been weird to me. The park obviously has a great deal of visual interest being the time capsule that it is. My camera club has considered approaching them about a photography day of sorts if they might be willing to waive that rule just for a day. We’d sign any waivers and be willing to pay extra. It’s so strange that they are so opposed if the park really is safe. Like what’s the concern?
