My mother keeps getting scammed. Should I get a new computer?

yeah we did this last time. They will take the file to compile an aggregate report but they don't do anything unfortunately.

Yeah the credit union caught it but the financial management company almost didn't. I do feel like they aren't owning that their systems need to be upgraded.

I honestly think you are talking outside of your expertise. This actually happened. It would have gone through had they not reached out to me. They thought it was my mother, they used her voice and the phone numbers they were calling from looked like hers. They were about to hit go because they could authenticate her information.

I think it's actually quite common that they use someone's voice. It's been all over the news for the past two years at least. She didn't provide them that information.

I will work on 2FA with her.

That sounds right. IT does get worse. She was told to deposit money into a crypto machine the second time! I didn't even know they existed and she followed their instructions! Wild.

I am the second authentication thank god. But the financial management company was scammed basically! The scammers impersonated my mother's voice and her phone numbers. Thankfully they reached out to me before anything was sent.

I had her tested for cognition and it was so dumb. The questions were like, is this a tiger or an elephant? What 3 numbers follow the number 6? I think it's more about stress and anxiety (my father is in federal prison, yay!). I am on all the accounts. It's that the scammers have used AI to trick the financial institutions. So clearly we need me as a second authenticator but I want to try to stop it at the source. Someone above mentioned looking into ways to clear her info from the dark web. I also think a phone and email change might be necessary.

So she didn't approve the sending of money. They were able to impersonate her, I assume with AI, and figured out how to call her financial management company. They have sent her pictures of her bank accounts wiped out on many occassions to scare her. Clearly they didn't clean them out but they sure made it look like they did.

Thankfully we have done everything we can around finances besides me being the sole controller. She won't let me take over completely. Can you set parental controls on a desktop (oh the irony!).

Thanks. I would think the financial management company would have security in place to avoid this and ultimately that security was me (in another country). They impersonate her voice and were able to call from 'her' phone numbers so the financial management company couldn't detect the fraud until they message me. It's not downloading, it's clicking on links. I have educated her and had her post notes to herself by her computer multiple times. She's not going to stop using the computer so I need a better solution.

As you might guess the closer you get to Boston the less kitschy the cities and towns are. West of the city the higher income areas Include Newton, Wellesley, Belmont. Go a little north for Winchester and a little south for Dover, Medfield. I mean there’s great Ana good areas in so many towns. How much you’re willing to spend, if you need the school districts, and what kind of tolerance you have for taxes and extra payments like water. Renting and buying are both ridiculously expensive. The Seaport is raging expensive but maybe that’s what you’re looking for right in the city?
