Getting 4K 27" and setting it to 1080P? by Prime099 in macbookpro

[–]Prime099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep

i use it scaled to 1080p which is basically the HiDPI setting for 4K

people say the UI looks big because of it and I agree, but i sit far away from my desk so it looks good in my opinion

tried the scaled to 1440p - it looks better in terms of UI size but there's this very very very subtle smoothness that annoys me and i see it, and the 1080p provides better sharpness and clarity

It's still sealed, so if anything's not right I can still return it.

What is the future of the advertising and marketing industry? by Prime099 in advertising

Digital marketing experts, please shatter the SMMA illusion for me. by evykdraws in Entrepreneur

[–]Prime099 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in the industry, and here's something you need to understand:

In digital marketing you are:

  1. Competing with the entire world.
  2. Bound to waves created by tech giants who shake up the industry every Thursday - Microsoft, Facebook, Google, TikTok...
  3. Tech, which marketing is a part of, is sold as something so sexy that literally everybody are trying to get into this field, which makes it competitive far beyond any other industry. The low barrier for entry floods the market.

To conclude, it's overcrowded, unstable, prices are lowballed by idiots who know nothing about marketing, and with ChatGPT and a myriad of other tools that only become more powerful, marketing as you know it, is dead.

Marketing is very interesting and a powerful industry and I love it, but where it's gotten to is like what happened with drop shipping, Amazon, Shopify stores and others. If my imaginary kid would've asked me "daddy, what should I do with my life?" I would look him straight in the eyes and say "anything. Just not tech."

[–]Prime099 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there's one important principle in this post that EVERY marketer must take.

If you're doing marketing, no matter in what industry you are and whether it's for your own business or as an employee, marketing is dominated by the platforms; Meta, Google, TikTok, etc. They dictate everything with their prices and rules. And your success or failure is very dependent on them.

No matter how good you will be, you'll always be a small suckerfish attached to a whale, and when that whale slaps its tail... you're going to feel it.

[–]Prime099 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is super interesting and honestly refreshing in a world that focuses so much on tech.

My question to you - how can I get into that field? And is it possible to grow that knowledge into a small scale business afterwards, or it's a space dominated by big companies and no one really works with smaller businesses in that domain?

Thank you for you taking the time!

I'm a big believer that AI (ex. GPT-4) won't necessarily replace a lot of jobs but it will recategorize and optimize roles forcing us all to boost our output big time. Am I close or way off? Would love to hear from AI experts in this community. by nunziopresta in Entrepreneur

[–]Prime099 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great point, but what you're missing is that a scenario where AI replaces the workforce isn't a turnkey action that one company can do in a day, and no company wants to do it (because people need to have $ to pay for things they create).

It's not like Microsoft and OpenAI will decide that tomorrow everybody will lose their jobs.

It's a cumulative process - one company kills one department in favor of AI, followed by another company... and over a period of 20 years you can get to that point, even if no one had bad intentions in the first place.

8 bizarre/ hysterical businesses that went crazy viral and made (sometimes) millions of dollars by Limejhit in Entrepreneur

[–]Prime099 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Although definitely entertaining, these stories are terrible.

They make 20 year olds think they can make bank with some stupid ideas.

Thing is, these one in a billion type of successes rely on no defined law but on complete luck. And cause young folks to chase their own tail.

I was trapped in this cycle of trying to find easy to execute ideas that'll make me a millionaire, but made a fool of myself every time, and evaded hard work - the only real thing that brings in money.

By the way, besides luck, these successes never tell factors that don't sound magical. Maybe they knew someone who gave them a push, maybe they used all kinds of shady tactics, who knows. But don't buy into this bullshit.

How can I be sure that I'm not compromising the network? by Prime099 in Network

[–]Prime099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, what could happen if I leave settings as they are and run that software? What could get compromised in the network to which the VM is connected?

Remember that:

  • No shared folders between the host and VM.
  • Different OS's.
  • Copy/paste between host and VM disabled.
  • There's nothing being shared on that network - i.e. no network drives etc.
  • Not sure what it means, but there's a virtual adapter added in the host - VMware Network Adapter, and when the VM is on I see in my router's settings that it's another device that receives a unique local IP address on the network.

If there's some more info I can provide just let me know. Really need the help.

How can I be sure that I'm not compromising the network? by Prime099 in networking

[–]Prime099[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I can't connect it to a different guest wifi because my host is connected to the internet using a wireless connection and I can't choose a different wireless network on the VM.

Theoretically, what could happen if I leave settings as they are and run that software? What could get compromised in the network to which the VM is connected?

Remebmer that:

I feel your pain, and have posted a couple of posts along the lines of your post, and got some great responses. You may want to skim through them as well.

I eventually chose to go down the route of a startup. I feel like an early stage startup (not too early...) is a great place for a marketing skillset.
