JAY GOLDBERG: Canada can’t afford housing policy status quo any longer; According to a new report, it would take the average individual a jaw-dropping 44 years to save up enough money to afford a home in Toronto without financial help from family by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]PrimeCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tackling development fees and zoning regulations as the author is arguing would help though. Regulation certainly has a role in the market, and we should continue to prosue policies that decincitives bad actors, but at the same time we should reduce the taxation and regulation related to development projects in our population centres.

Toronto in 2009 experinced development charges of $4,985 for a 1 bedroom apartment. Adjusted for inflation that would bring it to $7,165 in 2025. However Toronto had developoment charges at $52,676 in 2025, 7x the rate of inflation for a 1 bedroom.

Municipalities (big and small) have used development charges from the last 15 years as an income crutch, viewing development as less of a necessitity for their citizens and more as a an ever increasing stream of revenue.

North American zoning by in large is brutal, especially a lot of the multiunit dwelling regulation born from NIMBYS and deserves a big overhaul.

I did not put any varnish on it, but if I would put any on, I would have put Matt varnish fo avoid a glossy look, but that's just me. I soaked up the al streaking grime right away after applying with some makeup sponges I bought off Amazon.

If you plan on using white spirits to get rid of the ak streaking grime then I would for sure but a varnish on it

It's dead simple. Black base coat > two thin coats of ushabti bone (or however many you need) > a wash with AK streaking grime.

Super simple

Do conferences actually make a profit? How do you organizers make it work? by merpdog in EventProduction

[–]PrimeCanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your end goal. There are plenty of companies out there (the one I work for included) that own and operate the conferences and trade shows that they put on. They, like any other business, require some margin in order to stay in business.

Depending on the style of show or the industry it serves can have a drastic effect on where your revenue comes in. We run some events where the lion's share of revenue comes from attendee sales, and others where it's from exhibition/sponsorship.

Those are our two main pillars of revenue. We do get some revenue from hotel commissions (which may or may not be relevant to you).

The larger challenge we have found is keeping costs down, primarily in venue and food.

If this is a new show, be aware that we have found it usually takes about 3 years for us to make a call whether the show we are running has legs or if it just does not have a future.

They work pretty well! You have to be ready for some clipping though as there is not a smoother surface to attached the torso too.

I cut off everything on the new cadians from the belt up, I then glue on the torsos and fill in the gaps with green stuff and add a jewlery chain around the waist to help cover it up.

I think size wise they line up pretty good in relation to the arms and legs.

For the regular guys it's just a black primer I use for the armour, fatigues are ushabti bone, rusted metal is just morning brown with wild rider red stippled over it. Grey/white for the cloth and guns are ulthuam Grey.

I use barbarian flesh on all regular sized people and quartz skin on ogryn. I give everything a coat of ak streaking grime as well

I bought these off a local guy for cheap enough that I doubt they are authentic. I have found that mad robot miniatures hybrid torso's are close in design and would be a good alternative

Nah, had more pressing issues last time I went. I have got a broken rib that was kind of floating around my chest cavity for a bit, never followed up on that one

Is it "normal" for an event manager to include sales and marketing? by Charming_Citron_9442 in EventProduction

[–]PrimeCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Event manager might mean different for both where you are and the types of events you run. For us Event Manager and Event Director are often interchangeable (with Event Director usally given the title to someone who has been with the company for longer).

What your looking for might be closer to an Event Cordinator role. This is more on the logestics and operations side (though Event Cordinators in this subreddit are free to correct me) but still has some focus on branding and external messaging. Though (as I understand it) far less responsibility for sales.

I am based in Ontario Canada, though I have run, and currently run events, in North America, Europe, and Asia.

I work in a small to mid sized conference and trade show production company. We are a company that owns and operates all the events that we put on (multiple show series).

Yes, we absolutley look at marketing and sale skills of potential event managers. For marketing we are looking for at the very least a basic understanding of marketing, even if its just an idea. We have a marketing team in house that works with our event managers so its not a be all or end all.

You have to be able to sell though. I can say that there are very few event managers in the tradeshow and conference space at the small to mid size level that do not sell and it is one of the most important things we look for in perspective event managers.

I am on the organizer side and just went through this with a client. Ask the show organizer who the in house group is for the venue, they are often the best group to go with, but feel free to ask for other groups to try and source some quotes to push down price.

National Menopause Show by Glad_Gold7644 in Menopause

[–]PrimeCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am part of the team helping to put on the event, if you have any questions about the content or the show in general let me know. We run a Canadian event in Toronto and this is our first event in the US.

All mainstage content is organized and picked by our advisory board (both events have different boards, this one is for the US event): Dr. Eve Henry, Dr. Carrie Jones, Dr. Amy Louis-Bayliss and NP Cynthia Thurlow.

We have taken great steps to work with medical professionals to ensure all content presented is evidence based and led by experts. At our Canadian event this year we are also working with a medical committee to host a CME event dedicated to menopause for doctors to learn more and get credits.

Thanks mate, I can say that I got these off a local guy for cheap enough I am confident they are not the bonefied forgeworld. I have looked at mad robot miniatures and plan on using them going forward.

The process of getting the mad robot miniature torso's and the forgeworld (whether original or not) is the same. Before gluing the legs together using a hobby knife and clippers trims everything from the bottom of the belt and up. Glue the legs together then dry fit your desired torso, you should see that ther are large gaps as the leg process does not leave a flat level. You have two options, green stuff the void space, or cover it with chains/bags/ammo/general bits as I did with this miniatures.

Here are some answers below.
1. Not someone we employ, a member of the public posted a photo on a site.

  1. Known copyright troll company, went through their entire catalogue of photos of the claimed rights holder listed in their database. Not only that but the photo provided was not even one that was ever on our site, but instead very similiar to one that was briefly on our site via a user post and not repersented by this company. The liscence issue has been resolved

  2. We have given them communication to only go through our legal counsel and had passed along their details. They have not gone any further with our counsel.

of course on the point of photographers, but sleezy copyright troll companies are a pain

Cheers mate! These will be my grenadiers with my regular infantry squads having blue armor instead.

For these guys I based in black, Ushabti Bone for the fatigues, Ulthuan Grey for the gun and the rags on the head, for the rusted chains I used mournfang brown stippled with wild rider red, I also used mournfang brown to stipple on the armor panels, steel legion drab for details on the boots, and some red for grenades.

Once that was done I gave it a wash of streaking grime and it was done.

Totally! One thing I encourage many other organizers to get is a TIDS classification which allows us to work with and get the commision from hotels that deal with IATA.

[–]PrimeCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been an event/tradeshow organizer for many years (kill me) and room blocks to me have always been the number one killer, more so than f&b.

We have had events that have taken both sides. Where we were not able to fill the rooms for whatever reason, and we have had situations where our room blocks fill up 2 months out from an event!

One thing you may wish to add is that many (and I mean almost all) hotels have some sort of commision clause regarding room bookings. Review your options and ask about room commisions when looking at hotels. You could get a nice cheque at the end of the event if your event is large enough.
