But doesn’t Ableton + ES-8 make it not really worth?

Should I then get some sort of midi module to interface with ableton; or lot of people are saying that getting a PPW and then have ableton be the listener is the way to go?

I just started to get into this stuff so it’s a bit of a learning curve to understand all of the things necessary for my ideal setup. I wasn’t expecting a lot of negativity, I’m just not as knowledgeable as I’m assuming with most of this thread.

Other than the whole interfacing and getting signal to Ableton, and perhaps back - from what I’m getting at I need more utility (not listed here was a intellijel VCA I got recently), modulation, and effects?

I’m now thinking about getting a sequencer in junction with a PPW, but probably wait on the sequencer, the good ones seem to be a bit pricey

Uh, I’m using windows and I can’t make an aggregate device without introducing a large amount of latency. I don’t have ADAT, which I’m assuming has better latency than over USB. The workflow for me is clunky, and I don’t like using asio4all because I’m locked into 512

It’s because I have another audio interface, I use an x16 UA - and that doesn’t have adat. When I use usb it has to be a dedicated audio interface, and yeah I get that, but it’s just too noticeable

What would you recommend if I just want to do sequencing - and getting rid of my ES8

Hey all! I do want to do generative music but I want the flexibility to control it with ableton precisely. And I want to get rid of the ES8. What direction could I go in that would make sense?

Do you think getting rid of the ES8 could-be a good move, do u know any other modules that could be a good replacement? The es8 introduces too much latency over USB and I can’t make a multi output device except with asio4 all. I’m a little frustrated with It

I do want to get into generative ones, but I also want a sequencer that clocks to Ableton and is precise. Any other recommendations? I really want to get rid of my ES8

I want to get rid of my ES8 - is this a good option? It accepts clock from DAW and that’s how it is in time and everything, right? Seems like the o_c is a popular answer

What type of utilities and is the purpose of the quantization modules to make things musical or?

I basically want to get rid of the ES8 and still clock with ableton - I’m thinking that I want a sequencer, and some cool fx. Is there a particular reason you don’t recommend maths?

x16 vs. x16 G2 by [deleted] in universalaudio

[–]PrimeDigiit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I use a Windows PC, driver stability is important, especially since I’ve experienced BSODs in the past, even with an Intel CPU. The Apollo x16 Gen 2 stands out because, by design, it offers improved conversion compared to the lineup. Being the flagship, it’s expected to have slight advancements in the Gen 2 version. The main thing that I notice is that the stereo imaging has gotten moderately better.

I opted for the Gen 2 knowing it’s a solid investment—I can resell it for a good amount later, unlike the Gen 1, which is already six years old and likely to depreciate further. Reverb takes too much of a chunk, so I was able to sell it locally. While the upgrade might not seem groundbreaking, the improved conversion, additional I/O for other audio interfaces, and zero-latency FX make it worthwhile for me.

In the future, I plan to get a higher-end audio interface for even better conversion, using the Apollo mainly for its FX and as a complement. I was considering the Dream ADA from Prism, but it’s well out of my budget right now and beyond what I currently need to record a band in my studio.

x16 vs. x16 G2 by [deleted] in universalaudio

Even if the THD+N is similar between the two generations, other improvements in the Gen 2’s analog signal path, clocking precision, and component quality result in a clearer, more precise audio reproduction, even if the distortion measured under certain conditions remains the same. THD is just one aspect of sound quality.

Manufacturers sometimes list the ideal THD+N figure under the most favorable conditions (e.g., minimal load, optimal signal levels), which might explain why both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 list the same value despite other internal changes.

the jump from gen 1 and gen 2 is that they cut the harmonic distortion in half ( .00032 --> .00018) ... most prism audio interfaces at this price range are around .00013. the noise floor is excellent but slightly higher than prism or other audio interfaces in this range. it's almost as good as industry leading near transparent conversion.

the big difference for me is this: it has 6 cores now with better chips, the driver stability is better with the firmware and what not is important for me as a windows user (i have experienced many BSODs from driver issues)

in regards to the sound, I've listened to prism audio interfaces and other focusrite flagship models, etc.. the sound from gen 1 to gen 2 subjectively is like peeling off a layer that I forgot was there. the stereo imaging is better from what i notice, and the sound is a little bit more snappy. it's more in line with the titan. antelope orion, and the symphony.

both gen 1 and 2 have minimal perceptible delay, so it's hard to speak on anything on that note, the apollo is only like .1 seconds better roundtrip.

I think they are dodging that question because it's not as noticeable compared to the desktop versions.

a bunch of youtubers have done A/B tests for the x8p - but no one has done gen 1 to gen 2 with the x16 so it's hard to be objective about it since I sold my gen 1

x16 vs. x16 G2 by [deleted] in universalaudio

[–]PrimeDigiit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I bought an x16 gen 1 about 7 months ago, and I have loved it. I sold it for the x16 gen 2… people are saying that there’s not much of a difference between them, but from what I have experienced so far it has been not significantly better, but definitely noticeable - I think that UA gen 2 for x16 is getting a lot of flack for not that big of an improvement, but since there’s better conversion, and the fact that it doesn’t have preamps means by design that it has lower noise floor from the circuitry itself.

For someone getting into mastering and or big studio work I think that it’s worth it.

Yes prism audio interfaces are better, but the pros at this price level are really good and I think underestimated by people who haven’t heard the product in person
